Let me start out by saying that I've tried many putting games to help with my consistency, confidence, and muscle memory. I dedicate myself to putting practice on a regular basis, and I also consider myself a decent putter. Perfect Putt 360 is a combination of many putting practice routines. I've been playing the game for about a month now - it WORKS! What I like most about the game is that your first and last putt from the designated distance, if you make them, add to your score. This helps to put the pressure on you, as in a tournament round, to make both of them. Also, if you make all of your putts you get extra points.

The instructions are included with the scorecard. Most important is that the player must step off of the putting mark and reset between each putt. No rapid fire putting!

Putting game mentioned in the new Climo & Feldberg video (http://www.flyingdiscmagazine.com/disc-golf/instructional-dvd). (btw... the video is well worth the $$) Here is the scorecard (http://www.flyingdiscmagazine.com/perputt.pdf).

This looks like a great game. I've been trying to get my buddies to do putting games before we start each round, but no one ever wants to. This should be a good head to head that we can wager on

That is a cool sounding idea. It is also fun to invent your own game:

My 3 friends and I play a game that uses driving, approaching, and putting.

Driving- Everyone takes 3 drivers and throws as far as they can from the same spot.
Everyone takes their longest. longest gets 5 points, 2nd gets 3, 3rd- 1, 4th- 0

Approaching- Grab 3 mid-ranges, pick a target and a spot to throw from. After everyone throws their 3, you eliminate your closest and farthest (rewards consistency). Closest middle throw gets 5 points, then 3, 1, 0.

Putting- Use 1 putter. Choose three lies of varying distances (10', 20', 30'). The object is to make each putt in as few tries as possible. Total the shots. Fewest gets 5 points, then 3,1,0.

This is pretty fun, a good warm-up that addresses all areas of the game, and actually doesn't take too long. You can even play it away from the course in a field with a practice basket.

Can't wait to try 360 too!

Thanks, I appreciate the help. We used to set up temp baskets and just shoot back and forth until we ran out of discs- then do it again to the other basket. Drinking is usually involved - helps balance.

i just played my first round of perfect putt 360. i scored a 105. putting is probably the weakest part of my game, so the low score doesn't surprise me. i really enjoyed the format, and it gives a good way of creating your "no stress" and "confidence" zones, and helping to identify the areas of your putting that you should focus on. hopefully, the scores will start to go up as i play more. it is a fun way to practice!

Any power Excel users out there? It would be awesome to create a spreadsheet that can be updated with the scores and info (wind, ground slope). That way, you could measure your progress and where you need to work.

We're planning to give you the ability to track scores online, so you can keep track of stats. Other cool features, too, just have to get it all programmed up. Any particular features you'd like to see??

I have to say that Perfect Putt helped my game tremendously and I'm no newbie. After a month or so of playing just about every day, I played in a tournament around here (a local C tier thing) and was SHOCKED to have become the guy who makes all his putts. It was surreal. The putter didn't hit the ground inside 30' and I coasted wire to wire. Seriously, I've never had that experience before.

Best game for me so far 212. C'mon, beat me, post your score. :)

I'd like to be able to 'see' where my weaknesses and strengths are. eg. Putting with a right-to-left, light, crosswind on a minimum up ground slope from 25'. I'd also like to be able to 'see' percentages of first-in and last-in for each distance.

It would be great if you used the diagram (Fig. 1) from this article (http://www.discraft.com/res_wind06_p1.html)to label the "wind directions".

btw... I recorded my highest score today @ 183! :D

Tried today at lunch. 60/90 for a 150 total. I was happy that the second half went better than the first. I'm limited to basement putting right now, so no wind or elevation... but a low ceiling (6'1") adds challenge... doesn't matter on the close ones, but starts to be a factor at 25' and 30'.

Definitely a fun game. And really makes you focus on those first and last putts.

Perfect Putt 360 is great, and it has really helped me to improve my putting. I am a terrible putter, my first total was 105, horrible. The last time I played, it was 178. My scores have progressively gotten better as I played.

Not sure I totally understand the scoring. Do you get any points for the putts you make in between the first and last putt at each distance? The question is assuming that you miss at least one in the series of ten.

gvan
04-18-2009, 02:42 PM
Yes, but you get a bonus for geting all ten as well. The directions are on the scoresheet. It's really fun and simple with the sheet.

Finally played this today. The wind was calm so no doubt that helped some in the putting department. Must say that this game is a lot of fun and great help in getting your putting up to par:D.
Found that I could do pretty decent up to around 20' but 25' or more was a little dicey though I did manage to make some around 25' and even 30' I found where I needed to work.
Was so into the game didn't even notice that I had played for almost two hours until I walked inside the house!

Nice job on the excel file. Dorky, but nice.

As a personal modification, I don't find it helpful to practice 10' putts, but I'm certainly not ready to move up to the suggested "pro version" that starts at 20' out. As a compromise, instead of putting from 10', I'm doing straddle putts at 15', then normal putts at 15' for the first two categories. It makes the game a little harder, and forces me to work on my straddle putts.

Alternately, you can make the game really hard, and force stance changes by alternating straddle and regular putt stances at every distance. I know that straddles on the course regularly cost me probably 1 stroke per round -- I'm just not good at them, even from short distances. But with this, maybe I can force myself to practice shots I'm not good at. Definitely a fun game.

Great modifications. I still miss at 10' once in about 50 throws, so I'll keep working on that :) I will try the straddle putt variation - do you modify scores at all with this - like doubling for straddles or bonusing for all straddles made?

I finally went through with it last night. I consider myself to be a decent putter but my scores didn't really reflect that! I scored a 97 and a 106. I had two things going against me.

1) Even though a Skillshot is a good portable it really doesn't catch as well as a full size. The catch area is smaller and I had a lot of bounce outs.
2) WIND! It was about 15-20 mph.

Still I don't think I've ever thrown 200 practice putts. I really want to get into the habit.

I haven't been upping the scores... I've been keeping it at the 360-point total.

Basically, current points for both the 10' and 15' distances are pretty much the same. So instead of 10/15', I just take 20 putts from the 15' mark to start the game. And I alternate regular and straddle putts. I need to get to where I can make 100% at 15' no matter what the stance. That should be a gimme distance.

For straddle putting from other distances -- yes, it makes it harder, but I don't think any extra points are needed. On the course, a putt is a putt. They all count the same. I don't ever expect to be as good at straddle putting as at regular putting, but I do want to get past the mental block I have on the course any time I have to straddle putt.

Good luck.

My new high today at lunch was 172. (playing with the mod that rounds one and two are all from 15', alternating regular and straddle putts). First time ever I've gone 10/10 from 20' in one of my rounds.

The other thing I've been doing is marking which putts I hit within a set of ten. Simple Xs for make sand Os for misses. It's funny to see what emerges. Like, I am discovering that I most likely to miss my 7th and 8th putts at 20' and inside. I think this is when I start to loose focus. Then the misses cause me to refocus and make the last couple of putts.

At 25', I tend to miss the early putts because I'm aiming too low. Once I remember to get a little more height, it's golden.

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I think marking XXXXX00XX or whatever for each set will help me to identify recurring problems, which in turn will hopefully help me to identify solutions.

So far, I think this is going to be an excellent game.

depressing more like!

Not necessarily -- my scores are poor enough I'd encourage a lot of other people. :)

Low of 131, high of 172... though I'll keep the asterisks beside those numbers, since they are based on the first 20 putts at 15', alternating straddle and regular putts. 75% of my misses at 15' are straddle putts... which is why I'm practicing them. Losing too many strokes on the course to those times I'm forced to straddle around trees.

Nothing worse than missing a 15' dinker just because you have to lean out to get a clean line.

I've hit all the 10ft putts so far, but have yet to hit all the 15ft putts. I'm always like 8 or 9 from 15ft, so aggrevating?!!!...:o

I think focus is a big part of it though, as mentioned in other posts. You sort of get comfortable, maybe to comfortable, and just throw a bad putt here and there. I did manage to hit 10 in-a-row from 20ft once. I track all my scores in a spreadsheet, so it has been nice to see the averages going up.

I have noticed a difference on the course too, I'm finally around 50% from 20ft, and making a few 30 footers too. PP360 has really helped.

I would put up the excel sheet here, but i don't know how. so you can download it from here

http://www.sendspace.com/file/v59n4x

or PM me if you like
the image attached is a screen shot, and a my first attempt results

i would love any feedback you may have

I have an older version of Excel that won't read this file (same at work, too), so can someone download it, do a "save as" to an older version, then e-mail it to me, please?

Or, does someone else have a different spreadsheet they can send me?

Just found out about PP 360 and I was looking at a score card and for the life of me couldn't figure out how you added up points equal to 360. If someone could break it down that would be great. Also, I wonder what some of the success stories have been, how many putts a game have you reduced after trying PP 360?

Look like you are a pretty new member, welcome. This site is amazing, take advantage of all the site has to offer, tons of great features, and great people!

Here's the breakdown for PP360.

Each putt is worth 1pt, except for the 30ft putts, which are 2pts each.
So, if you hit every putt, your score, not including the first, last, and all made bonuses would be 60pts for roundA and 60pts for roundB, a total of 120pts.

When you add the first, last, and all made bonuses up, you get 120pts (for one round, double that for 240pts for both rounds).

Put it all together, you get 360pts.
Hope this helps!

My best round to-date is 176, but that's a big improvement from my first round of 105?!
PP360 really helped me to build confidence in my putting, and I have certainly seen improvements in my PP360 score as well as on the course.

Tamahawk is dead on, on the proper scoring for PP 360. I struggled as well with the scoring until I realized in order to score 360 you have to play two rounds.

I will say that since I have started playing pp360 my putting has improved immensely.

Ive tried twice and Im up to 87 which I find very depressing, but the only way to get better is to keep at it so continue I will.

WOW. I knew I was a bad putter, but WOW. Playing this game/practicing putting was my major reason for getting a practice basket. First outing - 90 points. Eeeek. 0/10 on both 25' and 30' on Round A. Came back with 3/10 from 25' and 4/10 from 30' on Round B. Still, though, ouch.

One thing it's done on the first practice alone, though, is give me a lot more confidence on 15-footers, which, in turn, gives me more confidence in running at 25- and 30-footers in the future. Missing a 25-footer, then missing the 15' come-backer is no fun :(

Thanks for bumping this...I haven't played in about a month and my putting is starting to stink. Need to drag the ole basket out and go to town for a couple rounds.

It really seems like a solid practice game. I am AW-ful at undirected practice - I just can't keep myself out there doing stuff unless there is some point to it. With this, I give myself a little time to warm up, then play, and all of a sudden I've been practicing for 20-30 minutes :)

I haven't played this game yet. I've heard about it but just now was the first time I read about it and the directions. I'm interested to know how I'd score, so I may have to give it a shot sometime although I don't have a basket.

So do you guys use 10 putters? A combination of 10 discs (putters/mids)? Or just the 2 or 3 putters you have and then collect them and rethrow?

Since you are supposed to move off your spot for each putt, I just use one - my main putter - to keep me honest. ;)

Seems like it'd take a long time to play the game with only one disc.

I play with 5, but I step back away from the mark between putts. I do mark all the distances beforehand rather than pacing them off, just so I know I'm accurate on them.

Still haven't played this yet. I don't have my own pin, which makes it a little more difficult. My buddy has one and has played a few times though. I need to take the time and play it sometime.

Today was the first time I've heard of this game too. I know my putting sucks, but after the first round of 2, Oh boy do I need some work!!
91 on my first try. 146 on the second try.
I know I'll be playing this atleast once a day from now on and I'm sure my putting will improve.

By the way...
I used a string with knots at the measured marks. All you do is grab the string walk aroung the pin and you're all set no need to measure again.

I use string with orange electric tape marking the distance. I even made a device to hold the string on the bottom of my instep target. It rolls up nice and I can take it off if I want to.

I was planning on doing this once I get my pin. My buddy has an extra skillshot he is going to sell me for cheap if I want it. I was thinking a small rope or thick string. I figured it would be easier than stepping it off, though I do like knowing my steps so I can get an idea of how far I just putted while I'm on the course.

I have a small coil of rope that I do something similar with. I have it marked with knots every 5' out to 50', then every 25' after that out to the end of the rope (250'). It's nice to have a quick way to measure out putts and approaches, and it slides right in the bag with my MachLite.

I started playing this about 4 months ago.
WOW. What a difference
My other putting drill is to stand about 15' from the basket and throw as fast as I can into the basket. Of all things, it has helped my form and arm strength...and I'm lights-out from 15' in. Got the drill from D. Feldberg off of the DVD he did with the champ.

I've only done pp360 a couple of times so far, so it hasn't markedly improved my putting ability yet, but it HAS markedly improved my confidence, which has improved my putting results. The simple fact of KNOWING that you almost always bag 10/10 from 10' and 15' gives you a lot more confidence throwing those putts on the course. It's amazing how many more of these putts I hit absolutely center chains now, just knowing I can reliably do it.

Also, on the longer distances, knowing that you can get 3-5/10 and that you'll usually have a 10-15 footer left after that encourages a lot more runs, too.

What the heck is this all about? Perfect Putt 360? What, is this supposed to have you puttin' like KC in no time flat? Is it a game you actually play with other DG'ers? I am confused.... Fill me in.

it just helps you practice your putting from different sides of the basket and more importantly length.

Putting game for practice. Doesn't feel quite as repetitive since its a game.

How many of the spots around the circle are you sposed to putt from in each game?

It's not a circle. You putt 10 times from each location then back up 5 feet, resetting your routine each time. You come in at a different angle for the second round. The circle graphic on the scorecard is to note wind direction.

I plan on installing painted brick distance markers at local courses with three "sets" of shot locations at practice basket at 120 degree angles to use for "perfect putt" and warm up. Chose 120 degrees so three players can "perfect putt" simultaneously without having to look at each other. then rotate as necessary.

I think, as a Disc Golf Course Designer, I am going to get this set up at my course. Wouldn't be anything to post a sign with rules, markers at each location, and even print out some scoresheets.

I've been using this game since I saw it here back in October. My previous best was 168. Day before yesterday, I'm having a pretty good round A, when I start to throw from 30 feet, with a couple people watching me, I nail the first 5. I retrieve my discs and hit 3 more of the next 5 for a total of 8 out of 10, helping me to a score of 100 for round A. Round B, I hit 5 out of 10 from 30', but did slightly better from 20' and 25' for a total of 103 for round B. Grand total of 203, annihilating my previous best. What made it doubly good was that I was being watched and DIDN'T CHOKE! I recommend this game to everyone.

Hey so I got a message from iloqutiss1 saying the link is broken to the PP360 xlsx file i made.

If anyone knows a good place i can upload this for mass consumption then let me know, i tried sharing it as a google doc but it doesnt keep the tickbox fields i made, so its pretty rubbish.

In the mean time pm me and i will send it through to your email.
