I usually don't carry a bag when i'm disc golfing, so i usually carry about 5 discs. I was wondering what lineup other people would use with my discs.

I have...

Drivers
Pro Boss 175g
DX Dragon 150g
Champion Groove 175g
Champion Groove 172g
Star Katana 171g
Champion Monarch 161g
Champion Teebird 175g
Elite Z Stalker ???g

Mid-Range
DX Shark 174g
DX Skeeter 165g
DX Stingray 150g
DX Wolf 166g

Putters
DX Aero 150g
DX Dart 175g
DX Polecat 170g

I usually use Monarch, Katana, Skeeter, Polecat.

It all depends on how far you are throwing each disc. But if i had to choose 5 I would choose:

Katana
Stalker
Teebird
Shark
Dart

I wouldnt use the boss or grooves if you are just starting out, they are way too much disc for a beginner and the Katana is pushing it

This...

The Shark is good "right in the middle" mid, the Stalker will be nice for shaping lines, the Teebird is a really reliable control driver, and of you "fast" drivers, the Katana would be my pick, unless you can really rip the Boss.

How far are you typically throwing these? I'm also assuming mostly Backhand throws...

Completely unqualified to give advice here - but I thought it was funny that the only disc you have that I have ever thrown or use is the Shark. So I would go with that one :) I really like it for upshots.

And probably the teebird. My wife likes that one.

this... but if it were me, i'd carry 6 and throw in the skeeter... why? it's the precision alternate in all your short ranges.

Max Distance Drivers
Katana - Long Drives. Hyzer Shots <- Sometimes you just gotta "rip it"
Stalker - General all purpose distance driver

All purpose driver fairway
Teebird - General all purpose placement/control driver.

<Missing Link> Skeeter <maybe Dart if you can throw it far enough>

Approach
Shark - All purpose approach and placement.
Dart - Putter (potential short approach)

my only thought is that the 10g drop might not be beneficial to you....
What do you throw when the distance is too far for the shark and too short for the teebird? (150-200') ????

Exactly what I would suggest.

Just curious, but is there a reason you guys are recommending different mids and putters than his Skeeter and Polecat? If he usually uses it, I'm assuming he likes it and am trying to think of a reason for him not to keep those over the Shark and Dart other than personal preference.

The Shark has a great track record of being an easy to control mid that's great for beginners.

For putters you'll want something that can handle a wider range of speeds and wind. The Polecat just doesn't cut it when it comes to that stuff.

That makes sense, but if he is liking the Polecat for putting, he could keep using it but start exploring other options; especially when he learns to start throwing more putters off the tee.
