Just made a minor update tonight. You can now choose the tee colors if a course doesn't follow the standard color scheme of red/white/blue/gold. When you go to edit the hole info on a course, just click the color box up top if you need to update the color.

I've also reflected the new style of representing tees in the scorebook.

I expanded on this idea a bit, if you choose "No Color" for the tee, that will hide that tee from view. So if a course has 2 tees, you can choose "No Color" for the last 2 and they won't show up on when viewing the Hole Info. and they won't be selectable when entering a score on the scorecard.

As an example, I updated Ellison Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2&mode=hi) to show that there is only one tee.

So what are the colors exactly (I always get these confused)? In other words, white tees are for amateur, reds are pro, etc - what is the exact setup? Oddly enough I couldn't find the info anywhere online with a quick search. Thought it would be in the PDGA rulebook but couldn't find it.

And for courses with only one tee/basket, what color tee would you go with?

From this page on the PDGA:
http://www.pdga.com/makecrse.php
The tee color for each set of tees should match one of the four recognized player skill levels that set of tees was designed for: Gold, Blue, White or Red. Sometimes there’s no room for two tees on every hole. Just make sure to mark each tee on single tee holes with both colors.

Of course, most courses don't necessarily follow any color standards so you could find green tees, black tees, etc.

Ah, I was looking in the rulebook. So what are the relevant colors for the four skill levels? I wasn't aware of the Gold before, and I though Blue was the "average" or intermediate hole.

My home course (Hudson Springs (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=539)) just has one set of tees/holes, and I am trying to enter par/distance info for it. Which color would I use for a course such as this?

I usually just leave it as red.. since it's the only set of tees I don't think it is too big of a deal.

Cool. I am going to double check the distances next time I am out on the course (got the info from another, local DG site) and will post the distances in the red column. Thanks!

Check this document which describes the tee colors by ratings/divisions/hole lengths: http://www.pdga.com/documents/2004/PDGAGuides2004.pdf

Found on the page (http://www.pdga.com/makecrse.php) Tim referenced above.

Also, I've seen very short temporary tees set up for Juniors at tournaments; those are typically Orange, Purple, or Green.

Yeah I saw those, but still could not figure out how to determine which color level to use. It seemed to be red to me, but the footnote about calculating elevation and everything was too daunting.

Also, the overall distance listed on the main course page differed from the adding up of each hole's distance. But the numbers I got online may be wrong, which is why I am going to verify in person at the course next time I am out.

Thanks!

In my short career so far I haven't seen any courses that quote "effective length" adjusted for elevation. I'm guessing that's only done at a few World Class courses used for Pro events.

For most of the reviews I do I post an Excel file that has the Effective length calculated for the holes that I have length and elevation data for. I post the Files for NC courses at my Yahoo group "DG Course Reviews" and for all other states I post them here in the Files section for the course.

Personally, I've found that the majority of the courses are White level (best for intermediate players rated 875-925). Red level is a lot shorter (and often much older courses). The new trend is putting in longer Blue level courses, though.

Yeah my bad, I meant to say it looked as if it was a white level course.

So would the discrepancy in the course length on the course page and the totaling of the distances of the holes have to do with the "elevation factor"? Then again, I need to double-check those hole distances in person. I know they guys who put up the info, but we all make mistakes.

And to reiterate, the info I am getting is from another disc golf site run by some local guys. They had par/distance on a scorecard page, but I want to confirm the numbers before posting anything besides the pars.

Thanks for fixing that, I just went and looked.

I love this site! Making my review now.

Oh.. so for hole #1, 270/308 is red tee to one of two basket positions, and 348/385 is gold tee to one of two basket positions?

I guess. from the front tee (Red I guess) you can go to the short basket, or the longer distance basket. Same with the back tees... Make sense?

arrgh.. twice now I have finished my review and the computer ate when trying to submit!!!!

Gotcha.. I guess I'll leave the hole info as is since there are dual baskets on the course.

Regarding the computer eating your review, maybe write it in notepad or something and copy and paste it into the site?
