View Full Version : Disc Tracker/Organizer
I just finished up a cool little feature that will let you keep track of your discs and which bags they're in.
You can also create different bags for different events (if you have say, a tournament disc assortment and a rec. assortment) so you don't have to keep track of that manually.
Since you can create different bag setups, one disc can be in more than one bag. When looking at your disc list, it will tell you exactly which bags that particular disc is in.
As always, please let me know if you find any bugs or if you have any suggestions, etc.
Enjoy!

neat!
FYI, there is now a trade list on the site. You can mark a disc as being available for trade and you can choose from 4 options as far as what you will trade for: discs, cash, cash or discs, and Other (See Notes).
I also added a disc condition drop down so you can specify the condition of your disc (New, Excellent, Good, Average, Poor).
I added support for multi-color discs today as that was a fairly common request I've received.
For anyone that has tried to add a bag in the last day or two and hasn't had it show up in your bag list, that bug is now fixed. I was made aware of it a few minutes ago and took care of it. The bags actually were being created, they just weren't showing up in the list after I made some changes the other day in how I displayed them. They now show up in your bag lists as they should so everything is good to go.

Throwing out props to Tim for implementing such a cool feature and being so receptive to suggestions for improvements!!
This feature just helped me today..

Tim:
The site just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for your willingness to work on it and keep improving it.
I was going to use the Disc Organizer just to keep track of the discs I rotate in and out of my bag, but I was having fun pulling all my old discs out. So I've ended up entering all my discs. I'm not done, but I've got 360 entered so far. At 36 pages of discs, it gets pretty hard to locate stuff. Is there any way to incorporate a search function so if I'm looking for only Gazelles or only KC Pro discs it could pull those up? If no, that OK. I'm not sure what kind of numbers most people have in terms of total discs, so if I'm the only guy with a bunch of pages who needs to be able to sort them you should skip it. No need to do a bunch of extra work for one guy.
Thanks again.

200+ discs entered for me... and I second the request for some improved disc view. I might suggest this: in addition to the default view of 10 discs per page, allow users to select their own page size, e.g. 20, 50, 100, or ALL. It would be saved per user profile.

Hey Three Putt,
I'm assuming you already know that you can sort discs by manufacturer/model/plastic/weight by clicking on the corresponding headers. That might help a little.
I'll see what I can do about setting up some sort of filter that might make your life a little easier. Also, thanks for the compliments on the site :)

Hey Three Putt,
I'm assuming you already know that you can sort discs by manufacturer/model/plastic/weight by clicking on the corresponding headers. That might help a little. It does help a little, but in my case I have 17 pages of DX discs. So for any plastic type that ends in a letter after "D" I have to sort over to about page 22, and the way the page numbers display it gets kind of cumbersome. It would be easier to type in "KC" into a search and have them magically appear before my eyes. Magic isn't so much to ask for, is it? :D
Again, it's no big deal. More my fault for having 170+ DX discs than anything else. What was I thinking?
I added some filtering options to the disc list which will hopefully help you guys and anyone else that has a ton of discs. Just click the little + icon to expand the filter area and it should be pretty easy from there.
If you run into any trouble let me know :)

(But I still wish I could view more than ten at a time....)

I could bump it up to 15 or 20. I just don't want to list too many (or all of them) at any one time since there is a good amount of behind the scenes processing that goes on to spit those lists out and I'm afraid it might bog things down a bit.

Now if your disc orgainzer had a way of recovering the lost ones... that would pretty much guarantee you the most popular DG site on the web. ;)
Just added on a bit to this. You can now associate lost discs with a course and a hole #. I will add a link to the course listings later with the # of lost discs at that course. Clicking the number will bring up a list of the various discs people have lost, hole #'s, etc.
Here's what it looks like in action:

Just added the lost discs listings to the course pages. For a good example check out the course that ERic linked in the previous post. You'll find the # of lost discs just below the rounds/score average row.

You can now associate lost discs with a course and a hole #.
Any plan to integrate this into the Scorebook as well? So when you're filling in a Scorebook entry and indicate that you lost a disc you'd get a pop-up to choose the disc from your "Bagged" discs. Then the course, hole number, and date lost could all be automatically set. That'd be slick.

I think more useful would be to have a link under hole info where you can see the discs lost, date, and owner by hole. Or at least an option to organize discs lost by hole.
Otherwise the list of lost discs will grow super long eventually, making it hard to look through if you found a disc on that list. Generally, you will find a disc on the same hole it was lost on, so having option to arrange by hole would make it more functional.
Great idea, timg

I've never traded but I wouldn't count them as lost since you got a disc/$$ in return so technically it's not part of your collection anymore. My lost ones will stay up indefinitely as a memorial to the brave discs that have given their lives in the name of making par.

I don't like the idea of just deleting a disc. I want to know where my discs went... I can see myself scouring my disc bin looking for that blue Classic Roc that I just know I have somewhere. As it is now I can pull up DGCR and see that: Oh yeah, that was one of those three Rocs I gave to my neighbor to get him and his boys playing.

How do I move a disc to a different bag other than lost? I often switch discs around from different bags when I play. I have to create a new disc and delete the old one to do this in the disc organizer.
Just go to the "Bagged" tab, check the discs you want to add to a bag and in the "Add checked discs to bag:" drop-down, pick the bag you want to add the discs to. Discs can be in multiple bags.

Does it have something to do with when the text string with the quotes was entered into the site/database?
The issue I saw yesterday was while updating the pics in this gallery:
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/gallery.php?id=2656&mode=gal
Those captions were originally entered a long while back, probably before you fixed the Disc Organizer bug.
If I try again today in that same gallery the bug is not present. That makes me think it has something to do with the way the text was stored in the database from previous entries, i.e. before the bug was fixed.
You're probably right and I thought of that too. If you notice it somewhere else let me know and I can take a look to see what needs replacing (preferably before you fix the caption :)).

(And yes I have been putting the DGCR disc number on some of my discs.... E.g. if I have three white Star TeeRexs with Red stamps they get differentiated with DGCR number on them.)

not a big deal, because there's an easy work-around, but it seems that when one wants to edit one of their discs (ie: change/add a note), there is a bug that requires a manufacturer and model be added in the "add a disc" portion before clicking "update disc" in the "edit disc" portion...or is it just me?
Hmm.. I've never had any issue editing a disc.

i click on a disc in my bag to change something (note, weight, whatever), and in the right hand column there are fields to both add a disc (on top, the same plce they are on the main disc organizer page), and edit the disc that i clicked on.
i make the change, and click "update disc" on the edit portion, and a "message from webpage" pops up, prompting me to both "choose a manufacturer for the disc" and "enter a model...", meaning i have to fill in the fields on the "add a disc" portions (which aren't what i'm wanting to do in there anyway) before it will let me click the "update disc" button and follow through with my edits. the dummy entries that i put in the "add a disc" portion don't add a disc to my bag when i click "update disc", thankfully, or i'd have a bunch of "1080 aaa"s listed!
thanks for the response. the organizer's a great feature.
Can you PM me your browser info, if it happens on a particular disc or all discs and any other details. I've updated several discs today without any problem so I'm not sure what's going on over there but maybe a few details will help me figure out why you're having an issue.

Tim,
Does it make sense to update the Disc Organizer such that the hole numbers for lost discs reflect the actual hole numbers at the course?
E.g. Yesterday I lost a disc on hole #11B at Live Oak.
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=584&mode=ld
That course has holes #11, #11A, #11B, and #11C. But the Organizer only lets you pick from a list of standard integers.
I fixed it on the actual lost discs course page. Getting the appropriate hole labels in the disc organizer will take a little more work though.

Okay, there really isn't a "tab" for lost discs, just a link. But regardless, this change sorta broke some stuff. See http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2687&mode=ld
That Monarch was lost on hole #14 (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/bag.php?mid-519&mode=dedt&did=6649) but with the change to using labels now it doesn't show up on the course page. Seems like until you get the Organizer set to use the hole labels unique per course you should hold off on the course page.
Found another bug as well: the column headers on the course page that you're supposed to be able to click to sort result in broken links when clicked.
Well the 4/14 issue is because there technically isn't a hole #14 on the course. I can have it use the hole # if a label isn't present.

Everything that I found on it suggests that they made a really small run in 2007 for the Players Cup then just let it go. According to one site said, "They’ve been made in limited quanitities, just 400 Avenger SS and 500 Buzzz’s."
The mystery has only added to the temptation.

Any chance we will be able to add disc photos to the organizer?

I second this.
Sounds nice but I don't really see a need due to the photo albums.
