Close, Cincinnati is probably 3rd so far for me, I would put the Highbridge complex at the top because it has my overall favorite course (Blueberry), then other great courses on the same site, along with camping and lodging so you don't even have to go anywhere when you're done discing for the day.

I would have to agree with your "final answer"...:hfive: Highbridge Hills is the best area for Disc Golf I've been to as well. Even the way up there and back has some excellent stops! Yulga, and Standing rocks were the ones I hit. Both of those places were a LOT of fun too! There are MANY courses/stops that can be combined with the Highbridge Hills trip. Coming from the Chicago area that is..;)

My favorite place to throw plastic would have to be Sandy Point in northern wi. I go there every year for a whole week and stay in one of their cabins. Pro shop is very nice. the only thing is they dont carry any other brands other then innova. which is fine but because they have thousands of discs and more in the back if you need a specific color or weight if its not out in any of the 50 bins full of discs.

Yeah Sandy Point is really great. The cabins are incredible and the pro shop on site is really well stocked... only Innova and Innova spin-offs though. Mike and Michelle Cozzens are very friendly and if you can entice him Mike will play a round or at least a 1/2 round with you. A true destination DG course if you ask me.

I've only played those ones I bolded, but good choices. Winter Park is a downright fun course to play, Beauty is awesome and having two other great courses on site only makes it better. Lemon Lake doesn't quite stack up with those others in my opinion, but it is a cool complex, I like Red the best, but Blue and Gold/Silver are pretty close behind.

Beast and Goliath have some great holes, but there are a lot of more open shots. I do love those elevation holes with great views and a fun downhill. Once you get further into the course there are some more wooded areas mixed in.

Its not as big of an accomplishment as getting a roc to 200' with good form, that's what he's trying to get at. Breaking 300' is good, but if you do it with a boss, there's no way its clean, and that means you're actually hurting yourself in the long run. Honestly, if I were you, I'd drop everything over like speed 9, so no boss, or katana, or anything, until you can at least hit 350, otherwise you're just hurting yourself. Idk, discing down has been working awesome for me, I'm pushing fairways farther than I've ever thrown, and I'm betting on breaking the 400' mark once I get high speed drivers back in.

I should add that Bill did a great job with planning this all out.. I really enjoyed the format and came away with a better appreciation of Flip City.
Hot score was a +4 and went all the way up to +29.
Of the three or so women who started, only 1 finished so she got a disc automatically for the women's scores! Nice.
Bonfire at the end as Bill ran 2 raffles for the goodies. GDBP, WCG and me all walked away winning a disc and t-shirts (GDBP got a pretty cool hoodie.... lucky guy).
After the brutality of Flip, we hauled off the next day to play Whitehall which was less hilly and really really well planned out. That was a damn good round and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then a short 9-holer with Juke outside of Michigan City.

Use the thinnest, smallest you can get. Darkest color you can get. The thinnest creates less drag. So it effects the stability of the disc less. The ribbon can def. add alot of stability to the disc.

I've only read the last two pages of this thread but I may be able to help with some of the questions.
From what I can tell, most ice bowls are unsantioned and usually for charity. However, ill be playing in the cracked plastic open which is a B tier.
The blue chalk asked about is drywallers' chalk. They use it with a string to make quicker where to cut lines then using a pencil.
I don't believe, but could be wrong, that one can use ribbons in santioned play, reguardless of conditions. If unsantioned, the td can make up any rules he wants.
If looking for ribbon, I'd recomend the waxy, thin type in red. Its not width, its length that matters;)

Here is my first go at it. I bought some ribbon in the gift card section at target, the dark purple ribbon (not pictured) really showed up the best.
I think the biggest key is to really have warm discs and tape, I had my bag sitting by a heat vent overnight, and it stuck really well. I tried to get the ribbon as close to the center as possible, and to balance the tape evenly to maintain some symmetry.
As for length, I had about 40" on there (5 loops around a disc), and it was pretty good. With this freaking thunder snow though, who knows what you'll need.

It wasn't that crazy.. It did have a minimal affect. The more you put it in the center, the better.. Make sure you heat the tape and the disc before you head out. They will fall off for sure if they're not stuck on properly. Good luck with this snow guys!!:D

Did the discs go under at all. And thanks! Those paths were the most tiring part. Glad it looked good out there though. And I asked arche if he was going to play a round. I didn't have my bag, but I brought a roc with me and would have thrown that. He said he was leaving though.
I think between both of us the first round, we may have had 2 or 3 go completely under, but never enough that they were hard to find. My second round I don't think I had a single one get completely buried. He borrowed my extra zephyr, he was leaving the park as I pulled up and I talked him into playing a round with me.
And that's a great round of superclass, especially in that snow!
Thanks, I'm considering doing superclass in the ice bowl, I won't be worn out from carrying a bag, and I won't lose any discs...

Are you allowed to use superclass discs for sanctioned tourneys. Aren't the weights to heavy? I've been wanting to get a zephyr to mess around with for days like this and just for fun one disc rounds. You don't have any extra to sell do you? I just don't feel like paying for shipping to buy a $5 disc lol

02-03-2011, 07:59 PM
Yeah, superclass discs are PDGA approved, so you can use them in any round. There's an overall max of 200g for any disc, but it also depends on diameter. That's why small diameter drivers are only legal up too 174-5, large diameter mids like a roc can be up to 180, and lids like condors and zephyrs can go up to 200g. I only have a couple right now, and Ashleigh and I like to go out and play superclass together. I might be putting in an order soon though, if you want to get in on my free shipping I'd be happy to meet up and get it to you, let me know.

Cool, that'd be awesome if you could do that. Or ill see if marshall street has any bc im going to.order one.of those ssss wizards and that's the only place I can find that has any left. Dave m even said thaats probably my best bet. I want a super floppy wizard for roll away putts.

I'd bet Marshall street has superclass, if you see a Te Moko I've heard they're pretty similar to the zephyr, and actually handle wind a little better.

I just mainly cut my bag down to rocs and wizards. Then a couple drivers. About 10 discs less than I normally carry.

I'm down from 26 to 15 discs, really cut back on discs and molds,
Anyway, best of luck to everyone, I wish you all long drives and easy putts.

That's funny 'cuz I kept asking random guys that met your description if their name was Phil.. One guy was actually named Phil... so I was  and then said "Phil Ludvik"... and of course it wasn't him (you)... I asked another guy if he was "Phil" and the first "Phil" was right behind me when I asked... dude wasn't Phil so the other Phil and I got a laugh out of it...
Maybe you had to be there but Noill (me) asking everyone if they were Phil was funny... :D

Well it was for charity... plus they fed us real well with hot chili and coffee and other stuff like water free for the taking... that makes up the difference I think..
Not every event should be judged that way.

yea I was telling everyone about Flip's Ice Bowl... Bill did a top notch job with it that's for sure...
the long sleeve t-shirt I won at Flip was $15 at J-town's Ice Bowl
the hoodies were like $20 or $25
It was pretty cool to get all that stuff for a free raffle
then again... no chili... hmmm it's food or schwag I guess. So I'll put it as even.
