Fun day, played red fox, doubles on grey fox, uw-parkside, and the front 9 of the orchid at parkside. It was a little cold and windy, but wasn't nearly as bad as it's going to be in a few weeks... :D

Yeah wish we could have played a round in the same group. I will definitely be back up that way soon! Grey fox is a solid course, would be nice to hit it up once more before the Cold Turkey too.

I'd definitely be up for some superclass on red fox, as long as my ultra star counts.
And GDBP, I'm considering heading up their friday to play grey fox again before cold turkey, then just staying the night and waking up in the morning to play without having to make the long drive pre-tourney.

I don't really like throwing with gloves on either, have you tried a mitten with a handwarmer? You can just take it off to throw, then keep your hand warm in between. Especially if you use your other hand to pick up the disc and brush off the snow, you can keep your throwing hand reasonably warm.

It was easily the highest stress level round of discing I've ever had.
- By myself
- Strange park in a strange city
- At night
- Against the clock
Turned out to be fine; the people playing basketball there didn't give me a second glance.
- Took a cab from the MGM Grand @ 9:30 (I told the doorman I was going to Sunset Park, and he's like "ah, frisbee?". I was laughing, how did he know? My discs were bundled up in my hoodie. Must be a hot spot in Vegas?!?!?).
- I then had to guide the Ethiopian cabbie to the course using my own GPS/DGCR directions. Managed to spot a basket and had him just drop me off. He must have thought I was nuts; he gave me his own cell phone number to use to get picked up.
- Busting my ass through the course to finish in time... I should have brought a driver. Every hole over 300' and I had a Coyote and an Element . Couldn't see any of the baskets, which had 1-4 different positions, that was a pain. Thank god for the map on DGCR at least...
- Finished right at 11, had the cabbie pick me back up, no problem.
- People must have wondered what I was doing, walking through the entire MGM Grand Casino with two discs :D
No booze, no strippers, no gambling, just disc golf. That's how I roll in Vegas :hfive:.

I'm leaving for a week long adventure to California in mid December; back before Christmas. Gonna start either in Springfield (which, I believe, the new 18 will be my 100th course played in Illinois; and thus, will complete one of my goals for 2010), or Centrailia; home of my great bud, Hognosesucker (Eric). Gonna be epic, I'm obviously very excited. I'll keep everyone up to date and full of envy.
To relate this back to Alan's post; Nevada may be in the picture as well; which would be a new state played for me as well.

Eric has said they may be willing to set up some glow; probably on the rec course; as we're hoping to play the champ course in the daylight. Pins in the short on champ at the moment...still a par 67 from the long tees though. I love me some Foundation....just hope it's dry; it's been wet and rainy the past two visits.

Totally fresh snow isn't too bad, you can often see where it went in. Newish snow that has lots of footprints is awful, you can't see where it cut through the surface, but it isn't packed enough to just stay on top.

GUTS...don't get it
anyway, great rounds today all... wolf is a great way to play and is by far one of the most fun variants I've done yet.
for those that don't know of it it goes something like this:
-Wolf is a variant of skins
-select an order of the players
-1st player to throw is the wolf
-that player (if the first throw is really good) can call 'lone wolf'
-if they call 'lone wolf' then the remaining players team up against the wolf
-if 'lone wolf' wins outright then they get double points
-if the first thrower doesn't call wolf then they get to watch the other throwers take their turns
-if after any one of the throwers throws well then the 'wolf' (first thrower) may call that player their team mate for the hole and the other players join up against 'team wolf' and form 'team sheep'
-if either team wins the hole then they get the points
-if its even then the points roll over to the next hole
-on the next hole the 2nd player in the order becomes the first thrower and the same rules above apply
-the first hole is for one point... if the first player calls 'lone wolf' and they win outright against 'team sheep' then they get double points (or 2 points in this case)... if the 'lone wolf' ties or loses the hole then the 'lone wolf' loses double points (in this case they would lose 2 points)
-if the wolf forms a 'team wolf' and team wolf wins then they get the points (in this case 1 point each).. if 'team sheep' wins the hole then they all get the points (in this case 1 point each)
-if neither team wins the hole then the points rollover and the next hole increments by 1 point... this keeps incrementing per hole if neither team wins
playing wolf offers the best of doubles and singles by taking advantage of partner golf (your partner can save you from bad shots) and every player can have different scores depending on the team they wind up a part of on each hole. Wolf works especially well when you want to play doubles but have an odd number of players... this way you don't need to have a 'cali' player.

Honestly, You could play a junior if that certain division is offered. But be serious.. You are a REC level player with a solid throw! Jump on that challenge and beat some people the legit way. Get some true bragging rights...

But it's christmas and I'm greedy. I'm in need of some new Lat plastic and a FR R-Pro Wahoo. Plus there's an echo star teebird out, funny money would make me very happy. When I'm rated over the novice line, i'll for sure be playing REC

Lets put it this way. I throw Discraft. Only Discraft... And all the events I've been to this year have had 0-5% Discraft selection for "funny money". I can't say I've ever seen Lat plastic!? Very few selections other than Innova stuff. And I thought the Joliet basic players packs were weak too.. And anyways, the challenge is always the one thing that makes you wanna come back to another tourney.. Just sayin!

no, i just missed it and wound up in the ditch after hitting a pickup truck with a plow.. not head on, I sorta slid into it and smacked it with the back of my car and then careened off the highway, just missed a light pole and almost flipped when I first went into the ditch...

I'll make a trip down next summer or perhaps early in the spring when things thaw out. That area and Chicago are the closest courses to me, so if I want to keep bagging courses those will be the easiest for me to hit.

Right now for the first time in my life in any sport I am on the DL. My knee is bad from playing racquetball with two of my discing friends unfortunately. I am waiting a week before I go in to the doctor to see if it begins to feel better on its own, but I think it is a ligament issue. I never felt anything go wrong and it didnt hurt until the day after I played racquetball (for the second time in 3 years). It doesnt hurt so much but my knee just feels weak and walking especially uphill is tough.
God I hope I dont need surgery I havent gone more than 7 days between rounds in the 2 years I have been playing the sport. At least it got fairly cold quick and the snow is absolutely keeping me from playing because if I were to slip on this knee it might be worth cutting off!
Its rough but at least one of my other friends lent me 7 disc golf DVD's to watch. Unfortunately I have already pounded through 5 of them in under 1 week!

Sounds like a pretty minor sprain. Maybe ice it, take some anti-inflammatories. Stay off it and it should get better sooner rather than later!

It's amazing how big a difference dry warm feet make, I can deal with being cold and wet much better if my feet are happy.
OOOOH yeah, nevermind not having to deal with the smell afterwards, blech.
waterproof boots to play in + a change of dry shoes/socks afterwards + a ziploc to put offensive socks in = everyone being happy.

The ziplocs are a must, especially on a longer trip. We made that mistake, and played in pouring rain for 4 days on a road trip without a stink free place to put our socks. Between them and the wet dog, we needed 3 air fresheners, each meant for an entire basement, to make the car fit for human habitation again.

I wear warm tights and tuck them into my seal skinz... so even as my pants and shoes get wet, I'm still nice and warm underneath. I don't care how waterproof your shoes / boots are, they always get wet eventually... the seal skinz stay dry.
I'm not so sure about that. My winter boots kept my feet dry last year. Off to a good start this year with the same ones. The goretex gaiters also help keep the snow out. I have seal skins, but I don't think they are necessary for winter golf. Here is part of my post from yesterday about winter gear...
1) Here are the shoes. I just started winter season #2 with them this past Saturday. Although the shoes did not need it, I treated them with nikwax anyways for an extra layer of waterproofing protection. Took a while to break in, but they are super-durable. http://www.rei.com/product/706762
2) Socks. Any kind of moisture-wicking socks will work. I prefer to keep them short, no higher than mid-calf level b/c the shoes & everything else is warm enough.
3) Gaiters. Outdoor Research FTW! Lifetime guarantee & goretex...'nuff said. http://www.rei.com/product/778002
