I would like to stir the "pot" a little and ask everyone what they think of there local club. Are they doing a good job promoting the sport? Are they using funds appropriately? Let me know what you think and where your club is. Does your club get a :) or do they get a:(?

I think my local club is doing a good job so they get a :). They've done a lot to get more courses in the ground and keep the current ones looking good. I just wish there were more courses on the east side of town where I live.

I'm voting "impartial" for now since I've only been a club member for two months. From what I've see so far I'd lean towards a :), but I'm holding judgement until I see more time go by and can give a fair assessment.

As the course designer, maintainer, and all things having to do with Creekside Disc Golf, I spend much (too much, according to my wife) of my own cash to fund things like discs for tourneys, other prizes, course maintainence equipment and upkeep, so from my pocket rates it as , but as the club president & founding member, seeing the sport grow from the time & money I put in to the course I couldn't be :):):p!

So, I have lived in two different places during my Disc Golf career, Southern California and Colorado. Club in So Cal is a loose term and mostly there are a few local people for each course and then the governing body that does a tournament series. Good. Here in Colorado the Mile High Disc Golf Club is on top of it. So is the Northern Colorado Disc Golf Club. Both raise money for new courses and take care of the courses that they have. Mile High is particularly good about running tag matches just about everyday of the week at different courses. Not to mention, Mile High has been an Ice Bowl leading fundraiser for some time, including the top spot last year and another run at it this year.

GRDGC is a good club and they do some things really well.

But I think we need to have more local tourneys or some type of events.

But we do a great job of taking care of courses and getting some new ones in the ground!

Top spot Ice Bowl fundraisers two years running. MHDGC is the best club!

My local club is great. No members benefit financially. All them money goes to ace pots, ctp's, payouts, and end of the year stuff. A bunch of cool dudes too, who are all chill. Which reminds me, I need to pay this years dues...

We're pretty fragmented, have bad communication and usually don't know what the rest of the members are doing for the course.

I seem to have filled in the spot for "guy that runs the monthlies and updates our website".

Other than that it's a great bunch of guys.

Our club is a non-profit that has a board of directors that meet monthly to discuss all things WNC disc golf related... new courses, maintenance, tournaments, etc... We have lot's of landscape architects and they do a good job of organizing work days and keeping things looking good. We hold tournaments for charity, host the city summer camps for lessons and a round, work with a local high school DG club, and host one tournament every year where some decent prize money is given out (YouTube Urban Skins).

However, we don't really run any monthly's or weekly singles events. Our Tuesday doubles events are well attended... but the other events usually fizzle out after a few weeks for some reason.

I think we do a good job.

The Great Lakes Disc Golf Club (http://www.gldgc.com/) seems to do a great job around here. I may have to join soon.

I don't have a local club so I give "it" a :(

Closest one to me is Roaring Fork DGC (http://www.roaringforkdiscgolf.com/index.php) in Glenwood Springs and the courses are at least an hour away from me.

I'm seriously thinking about joining just to be in something even if I can't make it down more than once every couple of weeks.

Plus, from the folks I've met and looking at course maintenence and the tournaments they put on, they seem like a really good, active group.

Same with Grand Valley DGC (http://gvdiscgolf.org/) 2 hours west in Grand Junction. Great people, great courses, great tournaments.

Actually I am not so high on the club as a whole. I feel like there are two factions within the club and they do not work well together (or maybe they just dont work together period). This is all from the outside, as I have not been involved with the club except for participating in some of the tourneys.

I do not know anything about the funds or how they are used, but apparently there is a new 18 holer going into the county parks this spring, and if the club is paying for the baskets thye must be managing the funds pretty well.

The events are fun, but any disc golf event would be fun for me so I cannot give them a thumbs up or down there.

They apparently hold meetings a few times a year and I have not been able to go because they did them on a moments notice and I was already heading to a tourney both times last year. I have offered my help and services a few times to some of the powers that be and they have not informed me of anything I could do. I own a landscape company and have tools and equipment that I know would be helpful, but perhap hey just think I am another one of those guys who volunteers but never shows. That isnt the case but I do not live my life on a whim, I need planning to get things done, especially if it involved my business' equipment and tools.

Just my observations of the club after 1 year. I also hear bickering about different people from time to time. I just think its a shame, because people working together would be so much more effective.

The Cedar Farm Disc Club was formed at the request some of the management of Seneca Creek State Park, and I have to say they're doing an oustanding job. The relationship with Park management has never been better, the club runs the Maryland Team Matchplay (VTI for mere mortals), and doubles on Wednesday's during DST. They also handle most of the course maintenance projects. As usual, there's a small core of folks that perform the bulk of the work but we do get some pretty broad participation when there's a need, like cleaning up all of the deadfall after the blizzards this year.

I'm the President of Foothill Flyers Disc Golf Club (FFDGC) so I'm biased but I'm pretty stoked about our community involvement and being presented with the opportunity to run the longest running tournament in Colorado disc golf history: 2010 COLORADO DISC GOLF STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS!!

The only real "club" or presence is the non-profit arm of Innova; Socal Disc Golf.
http://www.socaldiscgolf.org/

They basically just push the tournies from what I understand. A few of the guys at El Dorado here in Long Beach have talked about it with a slight bitterness as a few had worked for Innova. I'm actually trying to start my own community here in LA... Check us out...
