Well I entered my first tourney and had a blast. The weather was ridiculous but I was determined to play regardless. A handful of guys played round one and left. I can't believe they were bothered by 20 degree weather, along with 4 inches of fresh snow (overnight) on the ground when we started round 1, plus the 2-3 we got while we played round 1. Break for lunch, then come back and play round 2, another 2-3 inches fell while we played round 2. Oh and did I mention the 20+ MPH with the horizontal snow also. It was really tough to even see where to put your feet. The teepads were getting covered in blowing snow in between groups even.
Anyways, we played random draw doubles (BEST SHOT), switching between rounds to mix up the field a bit.
First round I played much better than the second but me and my teammate shot 6 over. Not bad considering our skill level, but it was still intimidating hearing the teams with 2 pros shot between 6 and 14 under (24 holes). We regroup for round 2 and I got paired with a pro as did my previous partner. We shot 1 under, and my previous partner shot +2. Since the only other 2 players from the B pool decided not to play in round 2, I took first for my flight (albeit 2 people for both rounds). I got a recycled trophy 1st place trophy from Barry Schultz personal collection (apparently he donated a bunch of his old trophies for reuse with our club which is a pretty cool thing to do, it really cuts down costs I am sure, more can be put towards merchandise for prizes).
So I am excited but I do not expect to be the top thrower no matter how many people are in my pool, this time happened to only be 2 people who played both rounds, but none the less I am excited. It was fun to play with guys that are way better than me. I learned a lot, and received some compliments from them about my ability only 6 weeks into the game. I was afraid to sign up for the tourney a month ago because I didn't think I was good enough to even enter, but I would like to say no matter your ability, it seems like it can be a good experience. All I know is the guys I played with were very encouraging, its a little like pity at times, but I can appreciate it nonetheless.
So I guess I am a perfect 1/1 in tourneys. I doubt I will be 2/2 but I can always dream. I am now getting excited to go to the golf course I am a member at in 4 weeks and play disc golf. It should be interesting, and I may have some course knowledge that will help me out. I know how far I can hit a golf ball on holes, so that might really help me out. I am interested to see how they will set up a disc course on this golf course.
Just thought I would share in my excitement, even though I know I only beat 1 other person!
Oh yeah I also chose a Star Sidewinder as my prize. Please don't make fun of my hair or my alma mater!!!!!!! But feel free to mock my smile.
