View Full Version : Updated zip code info
This probably will go unnoticed by most but I recently updated all the zip code info to be more accurate. A member emailed me today regarding how some zip codes were pretty off from their actual locations and after confirming it with a few zip codes myself I felt it was worth the money to buy an updated list and import it into the site.
If you use the google map, you'll notice the jump to zip code is considerably more accurate and the distances when browsing by zip code distance for courses should be more on target as well.

It's the little things like this that make this an awesome site. This must be the "go to" site for course info. I know it is for me! The best just gets better.

I had also noticed that the zip codes were a bit off earlier, they seem much better now.
Ever thought about putting a "courses near me" type tab alongside the "search Map" and "go advanced" tabs? I know it's not really needed, but some of us are extremely lazy and don't like having to type in our zip code each time we want to find out what people are saying about the courses that we live close to. :D
I actually have but it would be kind of unfair to the people outside the US :)
You could always bookmark the search results page.. not quite as elegant but it would get the job done.

I'd actually thought of that, too. I guess such a feature would be limited for anyone without a zip code...unfair, but true. But what percentage of the courses are in the US? I know the sport is growing worldwide, but a majority of the players and the courses are still here. If a feature would be helpful to most, (just my $.02 here) I'd rather have it.
Also, I know other countries have postal codes as well (though the geographical search algorithm used here may not be compatible). And for some places, every course in the country would show up on the first page of a search, regardless of codes. For example a person who lived in the Netherlands would find all 5 courses there using such a quick search.
Hmm.. I'll give it some thought and see what I can do.

I'm just throwing out ideas. You've spent so much time making this site just about perfect, and everything seems to be finished now, so I figured you might be getting bored ;)
Haha.. I wish. I actually have a decent to-do list going but a lot of it is boring back-end stuff that I've been procrastinating on. I like doing the fun stuff that people can actually use, ie. the "courses near me" thing so chances are that'll probably be done tomorrow since I've already kind of thought it through. Then I'll try to force myself to do some of the boring stuff before it's too late since it's finally starting to get nice and I think I may find myself on the course more often than at my desk! :D
"Near Me" is now a tab on the home page and is also part of the course directory drop-down :)
You need to have your profile filled in with your location details for it to work correctly. What it will do is check your country and if you're in the US and have your zip code filled in, it will use that. Otherwise it'll use the state if you have that filled in. If you're missing state and zip, you'll just get all the courses in the US.
Canada won't use the zip code part but it will look at your province. Anything outside the US/Canada will just go by country.

I find myself using the "Courses Near Me" drop-down a lot to quickly get to course pages for the courses in my area... faster than searching based on course name, or zip....
Thanks. :D
You're welcome :D Glad you're finding it useful!

I agree I am using that regularly, already.
