With the current class I am in I have no fully committed myself to this sport: My Action Research Project (think senior thesis) is dedicated to installing a disc golf course in the town of Canandaigua.

I will be looking at talking to the local governing bodies and community leaders, writing a cost analysis, researching course design and a bunch of other related topics.

By the end of this I will have a thick stack of paper saying You need a disc golf course, Give it to meeeee.

Or something like that. I'll also have a 10 minute speech fine tuned to be persuasive in 5 minutes.

Wish me luck.

(posting from dad's computer)

I'll be putting up some info for those of you that are interested in doing the same thing.

I'll also be working with the Rochester club for support.

If I can get a course 4 minutes away instead of 45...I'll be excited.

rock and roll!

thought of pitching it as a pay-to-play course?

if the local parks department hears the words 'guaranteed income' in your 5 minute speech, i'd bet your chances will get a lot better.

Dude... this is rockin! If this course were put in, it would be GREAT. I basically just play Ellison pretty consistently as it's the closest course but is still 30 minutes from my house. MCC is like 45 minutes. I've played Parma once, but at 50 minutes, it's too far of a drive to play consistently. Sodus is the closest to me, but it's not very well maintained and not very challenging. It's basically a nice 9-hole practice course (which is definitely still cool to have nearby). So, this would be a GREAT addition. Although still a good distance away (approx. 35 minutes) it would add another option to the courses I could play somewhat consistently. Living in Williamson, it would be a straight shot down Route 21 to get to Canandaigua. MUCH LUCK!!!!!

Impossible. The land was purchased with federal funds that were only offered if they specifically bought the land to make it a public park. They jumped because the alternative was to just not get the money or land...

...now they've got a park slightly out of town that they don't want to really do anything with...maybe cut some trees and make some trails...which sounds to me like "just carve some fairways"

I'll be updating you guys when I have more info. Going to interview the guy that put in Basil, Parma, Churchville and helped with the other local courses. I'll let you know what he has to say.

just carve some fariways...hah! i think you're underestimating the work it takes to make a nice and clean course

I'm saying that "cutting a path into the woods" to my brain = "carve fairways out of the woods"

that is all.

If this ends up going through I know a few guys, as well as myself, that would love to be part of the install.

Could be one of the best examples of how to "kill two birds with one stone" I've heard in a long time - worthy of a noble effort, sir.

I'm sure you'll be able to tap some seriously valuable resources on the site, and hope that people can keep from jacking up any threads you start with respect to that so you don't have to scroll through 20 screens 'cause someone cracked a joke and the whole thread got outtahand.

Hope you're project goes well and you get a course intstalled!:hfive:
