playing my first tournament, and already asked for some tips. Now i was just wondering, my girlfriend wants to watch. is this no big deal, or bad etiquette on my part. i figure no big deal, but i also know there are some sensitive players out there.

Not a big deal at all, as long as she knows the etiquette and is willing to follow it. Having an extra person can actually be a big help if you need a spotter or an extra pair of eyes to look for a lost disc. Just know that if she does anything that is considered a courtesy violation it will go against you.

I had two cards this last weekend with extra people watching. Dudes girlfriend followed us and actually kept score for us. It was actually pretty cool because I hate knowing exactly what I'm at instead of having a rough estimate and I always count it up when it's my turn to keep score.
The other card this kid parents and grandparents showed up because the city was the exact middle point from where he lives and they live. So it was kinda cool that they all came out to watch. They were very nice and stayed back far enough to not be a distraction. Downside was they would be partially on the previous holes fairway on some holes but someone on the card would always point it out to them before it became a problem.

You can also use her to distract your opponents if necessary.

IMHO, more spectators should be encouraged to come out and learn a little bit about the competitive side of disc golf...assuming they stay out of the way.

And I would hope in due time, we turn some of those spectators into players, especially the female variety.

A certain DGCR review poster's parents caddy for him. They are some of the nicest people around. They pick up trash, help spot and generally add to the round. Scott if you are reading this tell your parents thanks!

Nothing better than a cute girl following you around as you play. Tell her to bring friends!

My wife also does this.... most every card i've played on has no issue with her keeping score the entire round. I recommend she doesn't add the scores though, any math errors not caught before the card is handed in could make for some issues.

I would be afraid my girlfriend would want to leave early and start ticking me off to the point where a courtesy violation would be the least of my concerns. Nah, she can stick to home and leave me alone.

I don't see how something a spectator does can go against you. If she was caddying then yes but as a spectator no.
On the other hand, my wife has followed along with me on a few tournaments. I've told her to stay behind me, don't talk too loud and to follow general DG etiquette. I've had no complaints yet.

Actually you should let them go watch or caddy for the pro women, awesome ladies and would probably be better able to talk them into playing. Some of them are very persuasive.

Good point - exposure to other women who are really into DG (and successful at it) is likely to be a much stronger inducement to females than anything the male gender could provide.

My wife goes to many of my tournaments. Just make sure she stays quiet when someone is shooting or putting.

I think they need an episode where Bobby plays disc golf, and discovers he's actually got a talent for it.
Proud as a peacock that his son has finally demonstrated something that can remotely pass for athletic talent, Hank encourages his son's involvement in the sport. Shortly, Bobby invites some of his DG buddies over for a babecue. You know - guys that look like the folks you and I meet playing casual rounds on your local course.
The rest of the episode could just be about Hank's reaction to their appearance and behavior.

Hank: "Bobby, those boys sure have a lot of tatoos, especially that one with the long hair. And this part of Texas is bone dry, so why do they keep saying things are 'dank'?"
My Hank Hill impression is spot on and I just laughed as I typed this. Too bad none of you were here to hear it. My dog heard it. She said it was funny.

Ladybird thought Hank Hill's bcr123psu impression was funny?
I didn't realize Hank even did impressions.
