New thread for all things Mid-Atlantic. Consider this a catch-all.
We got some ace-races coming up, including one at Bluemont October 24th (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1608&day=2010-10-24&c=1). Anyone else planning on going?

Can anyone update me about how kachtz did at Big D?

Kachtz didn't make the final cut. he couldn't get anything to hook up in the wind. But the day the wind was the calmest, he threw the fursthest throw of 697ft (8-10mph wind). Too bad it didn't count for anything.

I shot a 62-63-62 at Hawk Hollow last weekend. Those weren't great rounds considering that I only had 2 OB's total but it was pretty windy. It was good for 5th in the Masters division. Had I played Open I would have finished around 8th and made a little more money.
I think Jeremy K won the Big D. Double G had the longest throw of 802ft.

697'! Only in my wildest dreams.
we only measure only how far they carry....discs will skip and bounce and bobble another 150' most of the time after hitting.
and i threw a accidental roller on sunday that i had to ride about 3/4 of a mile to get on a bike. the wind will just keep the disc up at a constant speed of about 3-4 mph...i have dropped a disc on the ground out there and it rolled about 500'
i dont exactly remember how far you throw disc dog...but if you can hit 350' here at sea level with no wind, u could hit 500-550 there with 20+mph wind, just gotta have the technique and a bit of luck!

Hey guys, i'm getting a lot of PM's about the 2011 Mid-Atlantic meet and if it's going to happen.
YES. it's going to happen.
But the planning phase isn't going to start until mid spring. There is no point in rushing it when the thing doesn't happen until the end of September.
I LOVE the attention this event has sparked in our web community. And there is a huge margin of interest in DGCR Meets in general right now, probably because of mid-winter CABIN FEVER! :gross:
So if you all wanna chatter it up, lets do it here in the unofficial thread.

Cool cool. And as Jerry said, there's going to be a tourney somewhere regardless. Obviously we can't do it weeknds with Hawk Hollow events and would not be good if there was something at the grange.
I guess Jerry (assuming he's doing the planning again) and Biscoe have to see what works for them and Hawk Hollow and everyone that can make it, great, but if not, oh well.
I may have to start a savings account to go crazy with the discs in the back of your truck....

Hey gang, due a lot of high priority family stuff my life has been on hold for several months. I also have been working on getting a course built in Gloucester County and I am working on something with the PDGA and Peacefrogs. We have a planning meeting with the county parks and rec at noon tomorrow. They are giving us 20 acres within a 1/4 mile of the courthouse at a place called Brown's park. It has a lot of rolling hills, water, old growth, new growth, and a major power line running through it.
Biscoe at the meet last year I asked what you charge to design a course. Are you still up for it and the prices are they still the same? They want it professionally designed and the cost I quoted that you gave was good.

I'm finding this thread way late but I'd like to hear what people thought worked well at the meet and what they would like to see this year. I thought doubles was great unless you were the unlucky son of a gun that had to play solo. I don't think the putting comp ever happened but though that would be a good one, distance would normally be a good one but chances are we know who would win that. I thought tombstone was a decent Idea. Others?

i tell you a fun format in normal ball golf that people always seem to like
2-4 people on a team.
36 holes
4 different formats
1st round
Front 9 - Normal D-Golf taking the teammates score who did the best on the hole(or top 2 in 4 man team)
Back 9 - Alternating Shot - team mates take turns throwing to complete the hole.
-lunch
2nd round
Front 9 - Preferred Drive ...both teammates drive, both players play there own disc from the better drive ( this will work better at HHollow than anywhere else since there are not many par 3s)
Back 9 - Captains choice or in DG i think its called Best Disc or something. (playing the best disc from tee to the basket)
what happends is, the front 9 is more difficult and your score will likely spike, but the idea is to do your best to stay around par for the first 18
and then the 2nd 18, the scores will be a lot lower and the play will be faster, since by that time people will be somewhat tired...and the day will end with smiles!
if we do any kind of putting or distance thing, we should prob do it after the first round, or before the first round, as i think jrawk tried to get this going somewhat last time, and people just wanted to sit and eat.

Putting competition should be done at night with lglow stick marked spots for shooting and lighted lit basket. Near the fire is best. Some will still bail due to fatigue; but, in general it can be done while drinking and socializing; takes forever though.

the singles round is a thing of the past :p
I think the singles was good for getting doubles teams.
How come no more?
Teams of 3 Random draw best shot doubles would be fun. Hawk Hollow is such a tough course and having 3 people would make the teams very competetive and hopefully lead to more fun for everyone.
We should also try to make a push for more tailgate games during downtime/night. i know it was talked about last year, but i don't remember it coming to fruition.
And a grill? If you don't want ihop, there's nothing close to eat.

Heh... now that austin can beat me, i'll be the one to finish last in singles. ;)
Teams of 3 makes sense.... good idea.
We need more campers this year for the night time shenanigans. Camping would be more attractive if held earlier in september. but we'll wait and see what John's schedule's like first.

I should have my truck tent by that time so I'll surely be camping again. I think a grill is a fantastic Idea, that way late night brats can be consumed.
Triple doubles sounds great because that way no one has to play solo like some unlucky guy had to last year. Worst case two teams have to play as a double.
I will bring up poker because I enjoy it. A cheap hold'em tournament style to keep it friendly would be fun. Maybe even have the buy ins be discs. Imagine taking down the final pot and winning 30 discs that would be kinda cool. Just to clearify still play with chips just the end prize is discs not money.

Well.. we may be losing scope... the idea of the Grange meet was to get people together who want to help plan the main weekend at the end of summer (and whoever else wants to come).
If ya'll want to get a larger interim meet going, i'm all for it. But I have to pass the planning puck to somebody else.

I know you wanted a pre meet at the grange..... but if the grange isn't open by the time we have the mid atlantic meet up, would we consider having the actual meet up elsewhere....?
Hawk Hollow is the perfect spot for the meetup, but not having the grange takes away from it as we lose sunnyside, darkside, tiki golf, additional camping.....
it still might be the best option, but just wondering if something else would be considered.

Let's look at tounament schedules at the course. Anybody have that info?
My vote would be to avoid memorial day weekend.
Vacation weekends seem beneficial, however this park will be very crowded memorial day weekend. Camping is probably booked through already, and forget playing a handful of fluid golf rounds.
We'll also need to check with the camp ground to see if we can get some tent sites next to each other. I know many A-loop sites have clearings for 2 tents per site. Some don't.
Should go without saying this meet would be all out of pocket. Bring your own everything.
I still question local interest in this. Kwick, can you rally PA support?

Spoke with Biscoe this past weekend. Here's what we're working with:
9/30 to 10/2 (conflicts with Walnut Creek Mountain Jam X - same as last year)
or
10/7 to 10/9 (conflicts with Giles Run Meadow)
There is an outside possibility of September 16-18 (conflicts with Elk Creek Classic) but we'd have to raise more money toward the cost of the outhouse rental and bribe biscoe with lots and lots of beer. And then bring more beer for the meet.
What ya'll think/prefer? Red, Blue, or Purple?

Giles Run I might try to help out with this year, and the 16th-18th conflicts with elk creek and patapsco

Aight folks. what we wanna do as far as format....
Friday will still be:
Day - Come as you will, do as you want.
Night - Tiki at the grange.
Saturday -- last year we did a morning singles round, where scores determined afternoon doubles team. I've had some positive feedback about this since last year's event. But also some negative. It's open for debate.
And Sunday we did two (maybe three) rounds of random doubles. Random's cool... but maybe get some more structure somehow.
I think we should do a couple Ring of Fire's this year, and a driving competition... who can outdrive Kachtz's drive with an Aerobe Arrow.

Tiki at blockhouse seems great and everyone had a blast last year.
I'll try and get some practice on sunnyside (and darkside and tiki) during the day to help learn the course for tiki. it was a little tough playing glo not knowing the course well. we also have to let whomever runs it that many out of towners are playing
Saturday - morning singles with ctps for everyhole, and scores making doubles teams.
I think this did work great. I would suggest having best shot doubles though. this would allow me to remain the aggregate score double champ forever instead of defending the title. this would have lesser people not have to be punished a second time by such a tough challenging course. my .02.
sunday I played the first round of random draw doubles. beables and i had a good time (which could've gone bad with the knob hill overrated debate). i think maybe an A, B, and C pool would have helped avoid having golfinbob and katchz teamed up. we ended up redrawing to correct that so no harm no foul.
ring(s) of fire and other putting games should be done, as well as general tailgate games.

he is busy in the sexy women thread. but I can update somethings
1. We are deliberating on the food. We have to discuss if we want to BYO food to keep the cost down
2. Prizes, we need um, but we have some interesting ideas for a few.
3. Activities: It will be very similar to last year, but we will add a Ring of Fire putting contest (not sure if we will let Hysell play :))
4. Shirts: still being discussed.
5. Cost: depends on all of the other decisions.

Just made some new additions over there in that thread.
Thanks, Prerube, for providing the update. I will have the official thread open this weekend.
But yeah... I'm think'n bout getting Crafty Scientist reusable scorecards made up. These are cheap and worth every penny.
We will have event specific shirts this year.
Custom Discs are still up in the air. I would do a bulk order of them if the stamp is not specific to the year so any extras can be used next year and so on... but that's still a lot of cash up front for our little event.
Food is big question mark. Ray could very likely win virginia chef of the decade, but the major complaint from those who decided to not come last year was cost. And i think if we throw a Shirt, Disc, and sweetass scorecard out as a player pack, the $20 would seem like a steel... just bring your own food on your own budget.
I'm fairly certain ray doesn't want to do a pay-per-plate thing either, unless we get a massive turnout.
Events will be like last year.
Friday Night Tiki & Glow at the Grange (Pending course availability).
Saturday will be morning singles and afternoon combined-score doubles with partners based on singles results. Followed by free time in the afternoon (do whatever ya want, like go to the grange).
Sunday will be doubles of some sort. Instead of back to back rounds of random partners, i'd like to figure out a better way of making things more competitive. Any ideas???

FIXED - Friday Night Tiki & Glow at the Blockhouse (Pending course availability).
Couple last minute toughts. The food was good and it was nice to not have to think about food so I would probably pay for it for that reason, but as a large group thing I don't think there was really enough of us. I liked singles and doubles(if you have a partner) but maybe we can mix in another option like Tombstone(maybe just 9 holes), worst Shot could even me fun on 9 holes. I'm in regardless but 20 bucks for a shirt/disc/scorecard sounds good to me.
