I have a list of best holes I have ever played, period. I like to limit them to one a course, and here are just a few from the 20 courses I've played:

Hole 4, Brandywine
Hole 10, Jordan Creek
Hole 6, Lehigh Parkway
Hole 18, Tinicum
(Currently 6), Nockamixon
Hole 5, "c" position, Tyler State
Hole 12, Anson Nixon Park

Add your own and create something sort of "Best in the U.S!"

#27 DeLaveaga ("top o' the World" there are so many killer holes here, this is the standout killer hole)
#5 Warwick blues (cliff top pin)
#3 Jefferson Barracks (with pin atop hill, visible through opening from tee)
#8 Toronto Island (long position - 300 foot rhbh anhyzer, followed by 400 foot tunnel shot)

#7 at Ellison Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2)
#5 at Warwick (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=17) (for the same reason as Raoul)
#1 at Prompton (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1) (Pin on small peninsula)
#5 Red at Codorus (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/gallery.php?id=37) (great view throwing straight down to the lake)

There are probably some I'm missing but these are the ones that came to mind this morning.

Also, this hole at Aspen Mountain. I'm not sure what the hole # is, someone posted it over on discgolfreview but it looks amazing.

Hole 6 at The Whippin' Post, Paw Paw: 874 foot par 4 over a wide rolling fairway with forest on the right. Hole 13 on the Woodshed is a beauty too, 556 foot par 4 that takes off across the field, then over the dropoff down to the treeline, and back up a hill to the basket. (There's actually 4 or 5 of my new favorite holes there, but I really enjoyed these two. I didn't enjoy The Gauntlet so much as survived it, most grateful 5 I've ever gotten.)

Hole 27 at DeLaveaga is definitely one of the most picturesque, giving you a view out over Santa Cruz all the way to the ocean, and pretty fun to throw way out into space. But I think I like Hole 17 there better, the fairway makes a big arc to the right on a hillside that slopes down left to right, with the tree canopy coming from the trees on the right, and a whole bunch of trees down the slope to the left. I don't know why that one's my favorite (actually, hole 8a's where I got my only ace to date), but there's something about the shape of it that just gets me. Hole 13 there's pretty awesome too. Hell, that whole course is a delight.

Codorus State Park in Hanover, PA has several that would be signature holes anywhere else. I'll have to play it again to find the ones that give the extra thrill, hard to sort through all 54 of 'em after only 1 weekend.

Coyote Pointe DGC at Lake Casitas's most scenic hole is definitely 16, it's own "Top of the World" shot that goes 520ish feet out, but a couple hundred down, and provides an impressive view of the lake. But it's hole 15 there (in the long position, under the enormous oak on the hill) that I always get psyched up for.

I've only played Brandywine once, so my opinion might change on this one, but I really enjoyed hole 3. Hole 4 is "The Beauty", a big downhill shot over a creek to the basket, but hole 3's topography is really interesting, with the fairway dipping and coming back up, and the basket on the high side fo a 5 footish stone wall that runs along the road. Great hole.

Oo! Almost forgot, I played a Cain Creek Park in Cookeville, TN on my way across the country, and there were several really nice holes around the lake there. One in particular was nice and long, rollin' over the fairway, with a humungous tree in the middle of the fairway towards the end. Just beautiful. There's another great one there that goes over a bit of the lake shoreline to a peninsula, with woods guarding the back. Good "Tin Cup" hole.

These are descriptions of my favorite holes:

Brandywine, 4: A 400 plus foot downhill with brush lining both sides of the fairway and one of just two holes with water interference. Pin is usually across the creek, and a birdie 3 is an outstanding score.

Jordan Creek, 10: Locally known as "Cardiac Arrest Hill", this hole from the long pin is over 400 feet and climbs a 45 foot hill. Conservative shots can net birdie, but a bad shot can easily card you a seven or eight.

Lehigh Parkway, 6: This hole starts out over by 5's pin and then makes a sharp left, then over the creek and past both the bushes and pine trees before the hole on top of the hill.

Nockamixon, (currently 6): This hole starts by the bathrooms, goes down 300 feet, then a left turn will take you almost 500 more feet! One of the longest ever played.

Tinicum, 18: This hole is 800 feet long and wide open, but the basket is protected and the creek lurks by.

Tyler State, 5th: This hole, when in the C position, stretches out for 750 feet and goes towards the right.

adlacro
06-29-2007, 09:00 PM
Anson Nixon, 12: A pro par 4 that borders a high hill on the right and US 1, a very busy expressway, on the left. Over 400 feet and hard to get to.

I gotta add hole #14 at Warwick - from the longs you have options at the silver pin and a downhill shot through a tight window towards the blue island green. Crappy phone pic shows blue (long) pin with approach gap in background.

My best would be:
#10 (Current) at Nockimixon. Par 3. Throw from an elevated tee down over and along a stream to a tight basket.
#14 at Warwick. Par 4. Simply awesome. It's a good drive downhill to a tight opening in the woods and then approach to an island green surrounded by a running stream.
#5 at Warwick. Par 4. One of the best greens in disc golf. Pin perched upon a 10 foot cliff.
#12 (Current) at Nockimixon. Pro par 3. Am par 4. Throw down a power line over a stream about 300 ft then another throw to another protected green with a stream on the backside. Very scenic hole.
#5 C at Tyler state park. Par 5. 799 ft long and very tight. It is demanding from the start to finish. Fours are possible but extremely rare and five is considered a victory.
# 6 C at Tyler state park. par 4 and a very tough 3. Dangerous drop off to the right down to the river and trees everywhere lining the tight fairway. 280 ft drive to landing then through a very tight gap over a drop and back up to the guarded green. The closer you get to the pin the more dangerous hazards become.
#18 Jordan Creek. Very cool hole. Par 4 Shoot down anhyzer through a relatively tight gap over Jordan creek, then a significantly long approach over Jordan creek again to a protected basket.
#6 at Little Lehigh Parkway. Pro par 3 Am par 4. Drive over OB field to a clearing then a 90 degree turn across the river and up a hill over and through nasty shule to the pin.

There are more but I may add them later. I still haven't been able to play Maple Hill, Brandywine, Renny, Winthrop, PawPaw, or idlewild. Although I will be playing Idlewild soon enough. I heard the view from the top of Campgaw in NJ is awesome but its such a hike to get up there I haven't been able to play it.

Hole 7 at Ellison is a great one. IUP College Lodge (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=123) had a few holes that reminded me of #7 but the hills were even bigger. Definitely a lot of fun :)

My all time favorite hole is currently Hole 4 at Triplett in Savannah GA. 760 ft long, par 5. Blue layout. Lake all on the left side. The slope of the shoreline also goes toward the water. It’s tough but awe inspiring.

If I could attach a Word doc I'd add about 25 or so more, mostly ones that others have recommended around the U.S. But this won't allow Word attachments, so I can't :(

You can find them in my file "U.S. Course Guide" at my google group "DG Course Reviews" (catchy name, huh? Hey, I had it first!) http://groups.google.com/group/DG-Course-Reviews

I'll add hole #15 at Deer Lakes (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=125) to the list. Long down hill shot with a lilly pad filled pond at the base of the hill and the pin sits on the other side of the pond. There's no room to really lay up on that hole.. you just have to go for it.

I Love the #7 whole at ellison park. You can really let it fly and to see it go is pretty amazing. Also the 18th at Bakers farm is cool especially when they used to hang the flags up on the green. Made you feel like you were an important person(classy)lol.:D

i just opened a course here on the island of koh samui thailand. i think we have a few pretty nice holes here as well. you can see some pics of our opening day 2 weeks ago at http://tenstars.com/discgolf and our website is being updated this weekend with more high res pics of the entire golf course.

i would attach them here but they are still very high res 3 and 4 mb per photo. just added the course to this database last night.

Of the 45 courses I've played, here's my favorites (not in any particular order) -

Walnut Creek, Charlottesville, VA – #17 – Tee on top of a steep, steep hill with a beautful view of lakes and surrounding foothills. Wide open shot across field and down large earth berm to a basket set with a deep pool on one side and thick woods on the other.

Seneca Creek State Park, Gaithersburg, MD – #14 – Hole runs parallel to Seneca Creek, with creek on left side, and steep, thickly wooded incline on right side. Just about the perfect forest hole

Rockburn Branch, Elkridge, MD – #15 – long, long shot down steep hill from tee next to old farmhouse, across wide field, to basket set just over a stream about 40 feet inside the tree line. http://www.geocities.com/meklir/Rockburn/hole15.html

DeLaveaga, Santa Cruz, CA – #27 – launch off top of huge hill with view of the Pacific on a good day down over tall trees. http://www.delaveagadiscgolf.com/content/view/67/99/

Stafford Lake, Novato, CA – #6 – long, long shot down gradual, open hill, with a tremendous view from the tee. http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/pk/main/dg/hole6.html

Tocabaga, St. Petersburg, FL – #18 – long shot out of trees to basket set just off a small beach at the tip of the pennisula. Water and islands all around.

Winthrop Lakefront, Rock Hill, SC – #5 – Long shot from elevated tee pad across typically beautiful fairway surrounded by mature trees and varied flora.

Munden Point, Virginia Beach, VA – #8 – One of the longer holes on the course plays out to a pennisula with the basket at the very end on the river.

Bryan Park, Richmond, VA – #11 – 700’ down a long slope among a varieity of large, old oak trees, across a deep cut creek, and then back up again to the basket.

As you can tell, I like water views!

Three of my favorites would be:

1) #5 Winthrop Gold Course -Rock Hill, SC - 1053 ft par 5 with the lake on your left the whole way and finally finishing with a throw over the lake to a grass covered peninsula. Almost perfect.

2) #17 Wellspring - Burlington NC - 610 ft / 720 ft wide open monster after an entire round of medium to shorter woods holes. There are woods on the left and a lake on the right but the slight dogleg left hole is basically open (there are some 100 year old oaks in the middle of the fairway but it's big enough to throw around them). Nothing wrong with a par here, nothing at all.

3) #12 Hornet's Nest - Charlotte, NC - 638 ft par 5 which starts with a grass fairway which takes you 275 ft or so and then you basically take a 90 degree turn right into the woods. You better hit the hole or you will feel a par slip away. The fairway narrows through the woods the rest of the way until you finally come to the basket. Great hole requiring some distance but certainly placing a premium on control and strategy as well.

This is now Hole 13 at Seneca. It gets my vote as a "Best Hole, period".

So does Hole 8 at Patapsco Creek State park.
The "Beauty" at Brandywine.
There are a couple of holes at Paw Paw that qualify, especially the one where if you fall off the front of the tee pad, you roll down the cliff, possibly to your death.

Hole #18 at Renaissance Park in Charlotte is one awesome hole. I am also a fan of hole #7 at Ellison but I think my favorite there would be the hole where you tee off from the bluff and play it down over the tiers of low trees. I wish i could remember the number but we played there last summer. I know it is around 14-16. I love hole #2 at Mt Airy in Cincy. Also, I think it is either 14 or 15 at lake Moraine in PA that is an anhyzer to the fairway and then a steep descent to the lake. Gorgeous.

Some of the signature holes from around here are:

Hole 12 Grandview Park, Des Moines - Hills, distance, trees, OB...what's not to love?

Hole 15 Walnut Ridge, Des Moines - Not particularly interesting, but a 500'+ long, 20' wide tunnel with heavy woods on either side is a heck of a hole to have to play.

Hole 10 Pickard Park, Des Moines - First get by the trees, then worry about the giant hill, other trees and creek. It's its own safari hole: http://www.playdg.com/courses/?s=IA&c=pickard&h=10

Hole 11 Bryant Lake Park, Minneapolis - Because throwing off hills is fun: http://www.playdg.com/courses/?s=MN&c=bryantlake&h=11

Hole 8 Plymouth Creek, Minneapolis - Long with lots of trees, a sharp right dogleg and it all slopes twards a creek: http://www.playdg.com/courses/?s=MN&c=plymouthcreek&h=8

Hole 18 Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area, Minneapolis - 700'+ down a ski slope. Again, throwing off big hills is fun. Also, hole of the famous "Shot of the Year" on DGTV.

If you miss the fairway, you're SOL. (Also love hole 9, 12, 18 on this course)

I'm surprised no one's put any holes from Parma (near Rochester) up yet:

- #6 - The hole comes out of the woods, across the field, and back into the woods, down a hill with pin to the right
- #9 - A really nice par 3 down across a river with the pin set up on a small hill

In the Delaware area:
- Brandywine: #14. Down a hill, with the basket tucked behind a large tree, making a 2 somewhat difficult. #4s nice, but I like 14 a bit more.

#27 Top of the World at Delaveaga is a blast, but on a difficulty scale, I'd put it in the middle. I gotta say, #13 on that course is one I've grown to love (in that masochistic way). Its about 400 down the fairway, but the pin is another 200 feet tucked away in some tight trees. And its a Par 3. We call it "I-5" (Interstate 5), cause its so damn long. There are only 6 holes on that course I've never birdied, and on #13, I've only gotten par once. I play the course at least once a week.

#1 Boylan Family Farms, Laurel Springs, N.C. Have U ever been Experienced, I have. what a treat.

Whitcombe Farm, Beamister, England don't know excatly what hole # it is, but it's called the Old Hypotenuse. I had scored a ' 9 ' on this hole and loved every moment of it and also on this course they offered another gem, that hole (again the hole # escapes me) was the shortest of all the holes, yet Toby laughed his arse off watching me whimp my upshot towards the basket. As right behind the basket is a gentle rolling hill of (what seemed like the bottom of county Dorsett. He told me you came all the way across the pond to shoot a shot like that. Lesson learned. Thanks Toby.

#27 Delavaga is in a league of it's own.

#18 Renaissance Park, Charlotte, N.C. for a flatter hole as to compared with a lot of other mentioned holes this is a beauty and a beast all in one. I also love the other hole at this park in which your DG partner your playing with has to climb unto the life guard chair to spot. What hole is this??

#17 Richmond Hill Park, Asheville, N.C.

# 1 Water Works Park, Kansas City, Missouri This course has a lot of signature type holes 2 play.

# 18 Jenny Wiley State Park, Prestonburg, Ky. actually hole # 17 and # 18 might be the 2 of the best finishing holes in America. (and another question in itself, what course has the 2 best finishing holes?)

# 9 Lincoln Park, Massillion, Ohio (Brad Schick's favorite hole on this course) go for the basket on your drive and miss and you might end up on various levels of rock outcroppings or into the infamous "Valley of Doom". And for a small neighborhood park this has a couple other gems like # 3, # 5, # 7, # 11

# 10 Corbin Park, Post Falls, Idaho what a beauty this baby is, They just need a newer tee pad as the inscribed penis like drawing just totally takes away from this gem.

I can go on and on, but I got to go play, it's near 60 degrees today (11/14/08) in Canton, Ohio

1) Hole # 7 at the Circle R-Rolling Meadow Course in Wimberly, TEXAS is my choice for the prettiest disc golf hole I've seen on any of the 120 + courses I've played. A 225 foot par three dogleg right with the basket sitting under some trees. What makes this so hole special is you have to throw over the cleanest, most crystal clear little stream I've ever seen, with a small waterfall and pool guarding the basket, which sits under a nice shady tree. The day I played, there was a group of five people soaking by the falls after playing on a hot July day.

That being said, I'll have to preface this comment with, I guess it depends on what time of year you play this course. I see other reviewers played the same hole and reported a dusty creek bed. Welcome to Texas disc golf. I guess I was lucky the day I played it.

2) #27 at DeLa. Enough said already.

3) # 2 at Corbin Park DGC in Corbin, Idaho. It's a short (maybe 185') slight hyser throw that starts through the woods and then carries over a river inlet to basket perched on a rocky outcrop. A pretty little throw.

Gonna be there this weekend for TX Teams (http://www.circularproductions.com/txteams.html)!

When we played there earlier this year my girlfriend was expecting to see what you saw based on the website pictures. She was pretty disappointed and let them know :p Since then (I think) they've updated their website to include "creek status".

When we played there earlier this year my girlfriend was expecting to see what you saw based on the website pictures. She was pretty disappointed and let them know :p Since then (I think) they've updated their website to include "creek status".

http://www.circularproductions.com/cr.html

"Seasonal: Creeks & waterfall are currently not flowing -- both ponds are dry. No swimming available."

That's such a shame that everyone who plays there doesn't get to experience the falls and crystal, clear creek. But it's great that they're letting people know the conditions before hand. It's a long way drive out there.

The ranch was dry the past weekend as well. I didn't even get to play the Meadow course. All my rounds were on the Hill course and the "Back 50" which is a temp course they only set up once a year for TX Teams.

Hole 17 at South Vineland Park. you have to play from the yellow tees it is through so many trees it is almost impossible to get through. My friend got an ace from the whites two weeks ago though.
