Just saw this target on the PDGA website, I guess it was recently approved.

It sure is nice lookin'
The basket is super deep dish, I doubt rollouts would be a problem.

I like the top plate, which could be wired with lighting up through the center pole, illuminating the globe on top, from the underside.

Tech dweeb part; new courses could be wired with a low voltage system, like Malibu lights, with a transformer, and possibly active solar backup.

This could be awesome for night golf.

I wouldnt be upset if these started showing up in my neck of the woods, it certainly is much nicer asthetically than the yellow merry go round.

I like the DROT preventing top. I don't see any numbering on the basket though, that can be a problem at some courses.

Number goes on the ring just under the basket.

Ah, that makes sense. A little less visible than a number plate or on the chastity belt, but better than the machs with only the pole to put a number on.

I like the look of it minus the golf ball top.

Silly boy. I bet the top is dimpled to allow air flow over it's roof...thus preventing a shaking basket in the wind. eh?

..or it's used to hold cheese dip.

I think the lights idea is great though

Who makes it and what is the cost, I want to add it to the portable basket thread.

Contact Craig Burrows-Johnson. It's made in Canada:
http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/ManufacturersContactInfo_102710.pdf
The only thing keeping the model submitted for testing from being in the Championship target category is the diagonal gap in the basket just missed meeting the smaller standards introduced a few years ago.

So it is not PDGA legal? It is not for sale yet?

Cgkdisc

It's PDGA Approved at the Standard target level. It just missed the Championship level due to the basket gap being a few millimeters too big. It's not big enough for a disc to fit thru but the new Championship standards have a slightly smaller gap size to reduce the odds for wedgies.

Second target in the yellow section:

No-nubs on the basket will allow for sling-shots similar to saucer golf baskets.

Do you think we will be seeing it on any online distributors sites any time soon?

You'd have to ask Craig. He's had this basket designed and installed on a few Canadian courses for several years now before submitting it for PDGA approval. I don't know if his intent was simply for those courses to now have PDGA approved baskets or if he plans to manufacture them in quantity.

Thanks for all the info. I will wait to see if the become readily available before they get added to the thread

Who makes it and what is the cost, I want to add it to the portable basket thread.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the price of this basket is probably going to significantly exceed the $200 range in your thread.

I don't know that I would consider this a portable though in the context of the other models in your thread. The basket depth in and of itself is pretty deep and it doesn't look like it's collapsible. Being that it's made out of aluminum though I'm sure that helps in the weight department. The construction looks solid and I would imagine it was designed with the intentions of being used as a permanent target. The fact that it's on a portable base in this picture probably just illustrates that it can be just as mobile as a DISCatcher Pro or any other professional level target.

I definitely like the look and design of this target. The only potential downside I see with this basket is the plastic top. With the ever present course vandals that seem to feel it necessary to destroy course equipment, this top makes for an easy target. I wonder how easily it can be replaced and what the cost is for the top alone.

This target would be perfect for a pay to play environment. Especially with the idea of mounting lights under the plastic top.

I'm looking forward to seeing more information on this target.

EDIT: Just saw Chuck's reply. So these are being used as permanent targets.

what is the basket made of? it looks like plastic. If so does that pose any durability problems?

Looks cool, just wondering about quality for permanent.

According to the PDGA approved target list it's made of aluminum and the top is plastic. I can't imagine it has problems with durability.

He's done some different tops other than the golf dimple. I think he said they did a Coca-Cola logo top.

That's sweet! I want one with the old Dr. Pepper 10-2-4 clock.

This would be a solid portable, especially if the price is around the DISCatcher Sport...

OH man I could have used this basket on Sunday. Hit chains, landed in the basket, popped out for a missed birdie putt. That basket looks like it will live up to it's name!
