Has anyone made things like man made ponds, rock formations or anything else to add challenge to a dg course?

The rock formations that have been built up at Flip City are technically ob, they don't really add much of an obstacle to most of the holes but they're very visually interesting.

Actually, not true.
Only two holes have rock gardens that are ob, hitting the rest of them is just bad luck.

I think (far from 100% on this) that the OB's at Flip change with the event. Leagues there use all rock gardens as OB, including the cairns. Casually, just the gardens with the OB signs are OB. :\
Do any courses have sandtraps? Obviously very expensive to put in and maintain, but some nice soft sand seems like a good way of penalizing errant throws due to the lack of decent footing.

Not to mention sand would stop a flying disc cold.

Yeah?
Well Bill says that only the ones with OB signs are OB.
sorry Juke, but when it comes to Flip, Bills opinion > yours, mine, and anybody elses.
also, I just have to argue with you, for whatever reason.

@OP... the only reason I like the IIT course are the statues on hole 5. I just love obstacles other than trees.
one of these days we will have urban jungle courses... i can't wait.

There's a course north of bowling green, Ephram White Park, that has small sand traps around the 18th green, but I think they play as ob. I agree that using sand as something to mess with footing if you land in a specific area would be an interesting obstacle.

I've got a couple mach lites with access to a third, as well as a DB-5, we should totally do an urban jungle meet up one of these weeks.

Now don't tease me.
but if we're serious, I'll start scouting areas, since I really don't want to go to jail at all, but especially in Chicago. Cook county is nooo joke (I know people there)

probably,
hmm, we could totally urban dg in rockdale, right by west park. The cops in that area are so busy they really wouldn't notice us.
I'm open to other ideas though

Not exactly made for the course, but Bart in Austin uses a huge concrete drainage pit as an obstacle.

Yes, you have to throw over that. That's why it's an obstacle ;). I suppose you could go around it, which would add around 100' to a 400' hole, but in the end that's just as risky cause the other side drops off super fast so there's hardly any flat landing area.
Coming back the other way you can see the drop, which one of the other holes utilizes as its fairway (if you go left and over the berm you land in the same drainage pit seen in the previous pic), and then the basket is poised on top of a man made hill that drops directly into the creek down a steep bank. I've actually chained-out and rolled about 60' into the creek.

They play "Urban Skins" at the Mountain Sports Festival in Asheville. I think you have to be top 4 in the tourney to get to play, or something. DSCJNKY probably knows the details. Here's a couple pics of Big Jerm.

We have sand bunkers on a few holes of my home course. If you land in one, you're not OB, but you have to throw your next shot with your thumb on the bottom of the disc to simulate chipping out of a bunker. We've also designated certain strips of land or dirt roads as bunkers.

Super cool. I've often thought about bunkers in dg, but I never thought they'd be implemented. I really like the idea of the forced "chip shot" out. Thanks for the info!

I would love to do sand traps but fill them with round small stone or golf balls. Forces a standstill out on crappy grip footing, but really poses no danger of twisting an ankle or anything like that

Tyler State Park has a few holes that incorporate man made, but natural obstacles. Either wood piles or walls.
