I bought a Fade Tourney bag ($40) and a Zephyr ($7.50) and when it came I noticed the shipping label said it cost $37 to ship. How do they make money with the free shipping and everything?

PS - The Fade Tourney bag is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a bigger bag. :hfive:

ummm...im pretty sure they use flat rate shipping...you can fit that order in a priority flat rate box for under 10, and they have deals for businesses to get it even cheaper. you would have to be shipping a disc golf bag full of rocks to make it cost 37 bucks

They definitely have one of the business deals. I noticed that on one of their boxes a few months ago too, but I don't have an explanation for it either.

I'm just saying what I saw. I thought it was really high too. Whatever. They know what they're doing.

perhaps the decimal point was off on that shipping label...

I'm sure DGC buys a massive amount of each disc from (innova, dcraft, gateway), and that allows them to buy them cheaper, and then sell at a cheaper price while still making a profit.

Also the average cost of a Fade tourney bag wholesale is $30, and that is for a DG vendor to buy one. I'm sure if you are a vendor and buying 20 plus bags, you'll get them cheaper.

I just ordered 3 putters, got my 8% member discount, and the shipping label said $7.50.

And how much did you have to spend to get up to 8% discount?...

It's actually a bit less than that. I don't have that numbers in front of me right now, but the last ones I ordered were a little less than $25 each. The Weatherguard Straps cost more than the bags, IIRC. The way Fade's pricing works, the more you cumulatively buy, the better price you get. Most other DG companies, you have to buy the numbers each time to get the pricing. To get the 500 disc price from Innova or whoever, you gotta buy, 500 discs every time, but with Fade, if you buy 10 bags at a time, eventually, you'll get the best pricing.

I can guarantee you that they didn't pay anywhere near $37 to ship that to you...
In fact, most mail order companies make about 9-10% extra off of shipping charges.

What always amazed me about shipping was when I would have to ship a bike somewhere, and UPS would charge me $50+, but when I had bikes shipped to me at the shop, the shipping charges would be somewhere around or less than $20 via UPS. I understand economies of scale, but that always seemed, and still does, ridiculous.
