STAFFORD — The 33rd Annual Virginia State Frisbee Tournament will be held April 17-19 at Pratt Park.

The tournament, organized by the Mary Washington Frisbee Club, has been held in Fredericksburg for the past 32 years, 23 of them at Pratt Park. The tournament includes six events: gold ?(Golf), accuracy, court, distance, maximum time aloft and freestyle.

“People are coming from all over the country to attend and play,” said Eric Olsen, Stafford County Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in an e-mail to the Stafford County Sun.

Olsen has organized the event since the 1980s, when he was a student at what was then Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. The tournament moved from the college to Pratt in 1986 and has remained there ever since.

Olsen’s participation in the tournament is minimal, as “organizing the tournament is a full-time job now,” he noted.

“I will be playing double disc on Friday,” he said.

Double disc is similar to tennis.

Frisbee was first organized at Mary Washington in 1977. Olsen started there in 1978 and became president of the Frisbee club. He stated that disc golf courses are available at Pratt Park and Loriella Park and that one needs only bring a Frisbee to start playing.

“It’s very addictive,” he said. “Much like ball golf.”

Ball golf, incidentally, is the type Tiger Woods seems to like so much.

It’s also cheaper and carries the same healthy benefits.

virginia states is one of the most fun things you can possibly do if you are into frisbee as well as dg. it is also one of the best places to eat vegetarian food anywhere. only 30 miles away and looks like i won't even make it over to socialize this weekend. 3 jobs is at least one too many.

lahm will definitely be there and will definitely be going long and lefty.
