I have noticed recently a large number of pros on you tube putting with the straddle putt, even when there is not thing in the way at all.
So Im wondering how most people putt.

I generally do not putt straddle unless there is something in my way as I just feel more comfortable putting one foot in front of the other. I think putting is really all about what feels most comfortable to you.

Recently I have been working on the snap on my putts and have seen some improvement in distance and accuracy. I am still not really consistent outside of 25 ft but have definitely improved.

I've wasted more time than I care to admit trying to find success straddle putting. All that time I should have just done whats comfortable and practice it over and over and over again. So thats where I am now and it turns out I'm most comfortable with a weight transfer and putting spin on the disc. I'm not sure if I do it the same way as others but I've been improving quickly doing this with the more firm wizards. And I found this out by clearing my mind of how I should putt and thinking simply put the disc in the chains and I let my body do what it thought was best.
I'm still only a so-so putter at best right now but I have seen significant gains.

i have experimented with many different putting styles because i stink at putting, always trying to find something comfortable to stick with and focus on. i just can't seem to get the feel for the weight transfer type of push putt, so i am focusing on the spin putt. i have seen improvement, but still miss a lot during rounds over 20ft. as far as straddle putting, works great for me on uphill putts, but other than that, i don't use it.

straddling to me just doesnt allow me to aim and throw like a normal putt. but thats just me

I can't vote because I am not consistant enough yet to have only one way of throwing. On throws over 20-50 feet I have found that recently I have been bringing my arm back in with the disc pointed on a strong hyzer angle, but then when I bring my arm forward and release it is coming out perfectly level with a lot of spin allowing for better glide. This is something that I have noticed a lot of pros doing and it seems to have helped me a lot for some reason. On putts inside of 20' I usually just do a little bit of a push putt, I dont putt a lot of spin on the disc, I just kind of push it into the basket. Then on putts over 50' I tend to stand sideways to the basket and do a little more arm motion along with weight transfer to help with power if needed. In contrast on putt inside of 50' I tend to stand more like a straddle, but I always like to have my right foot closer to the target, unless the lie doesn't allow for it. I think it frees up my body a little more. I cannot stand straddle on long putts because I simply cannot generate enough power that way, I need my hips to get into the action.
None of this may be correct only what has worked for me!

I think my putts are halfway between "spin" and "pitch"... not really sure.

I used to straddle putt exclusively, but it is not quite as comfortable for me and when I'd get to where I needed to putt further distance I'd have to switch to one foot forward. I now putt with one foot forward most of the time. I try to pitch putt if I'm in within 15 feet or so, but I have to put spin to be accuarte any further out than that...I just try to minimize the spin. I practice straddle putts a lot too though because there are lots of times in a round where the straddle putt just makes more sense.
It's my opinion that straddle putting, more than other styles of putting, really requires that you are completely relaxed and confident in your putting. Maybe that's why you see pros doing it more often than casuals.

Inside of 20 on good terrain I'll generally pitch putt with weight transfer
Outside of that a straddle putt seems to work better.

What's the difference between a "pitch" putt and a "spin" putt?
Pitch Putt - Delivering the disc as if it were a softball (in flight path), as little spin as necessary. This is considered a safe putt as you should not go too far past if you miss, but can be susceptible to the wind.
Spin putt - This requires a flatter trajectory, tends to have more power and therefor spin. Can be delivered from the side of the body, like an approach. This type of putt can yield much greater range for putting, and will penetrate the wind better, but, as experience tells me, can go miles past!

I putt from the center of my body still with my spin putts. Maybe I'm defining a spin putt differently than others. My spin putts don't go miles past when I miss. Spin putts have more of a tendency to spit out of the chains when they hit the left side. Pitch putts, with little to no spin, will still catch and drop in, even on the left side of the chains.

I weight transfer my short putts. Does anyone else do a chickenwing putt? I use this once i'm outside 20 ft. I bring the disc from behind my back down by my knee and release on a slight hyzer. It flattens out and glides towards the basket. I can get alot of distance from this putt. But I get alot of stares from other players. They ask me if I used to play ultimate. I have never played ultimate this is just a shot that i used to throw with a frisbee playing catch with my buds growing up.

That isn't what we call a chickenwing around here. Then only name for what you do that I know of is an "old school frisbee toss".
The Chickenwing is gripped with your thumb under the rim & your fingers on top of the disc then thrown forehand.

I saw an video compilation where one guy threw his drive like that. Very odd to see he bent over so fast to get his body weigh behind the drive. Wierd, to each his own i guess. That's why i love this sport some many shots, so versitile.(sp)

I use the weight transfer spin putt mainly. I have also used the pitch version but havn't practiced it as much. I feel more confident with the spin put and I am still in my circle of trust if I miss.

Weight transfer, one foot forward, spin putt and I still suck at putting.
I'm much better than I used to be, mainly because of hours of practice.
I have lots of problems with wind and elevation changes.
When it's calm, I'm fairly comfortable inside of about 18', trying to work on a comfortable range out to 33'.

I always straddle spin putt. I feel like I am a lot more consistent with my X-coordinate aiming. I always seem to hit a part of the basket on putts < 30 feet. I just need to work on my Y-Coordinate direction because I seem to hit the tray a lot when I miss.

my putting style depends on how good i am shooting on any given day. yesterday i was push putting and missed something like 8 in a row. i then went to stradle and sank a good majority of them , or came very close.

I try to practice as much as possible on my putting. My biggest problem is putting on very windy days. I have tried putting down towards the basket when it is real windy but mr.Wind still seems to take my disc for an unscheduled ride far away from the basket.
So I would like to ask-how do you deal with the wind when you are putting? I have tried different things but to no avail.

Inside 30' I pitch. Outside 30' I spin- pitch. When I try to straddle-putt I feel like I have no power (cant get it to the basket). You need a straddle putt every once in a while so I need to practice those & also flick (side-arm) putts!

I was a horrible wind putter but started using a Zone on really tough days. If it's so bad that even the zone doesn't do it I turn the Zone upside down for anything inside of 20. Learned that trick here and it has saved me buckets of strokes.
The Zone is a manhole cover...

this weekend, i exclusivly putted straddle, and found that as im a natural spin putter i was spinning it alot, but my intention was to pitch as much as i could,
what i discovered was this. there was never ever a reason for me to have a different position to the straddle. Slopes, distance, wind, trees, height.... whatever. I see this as a good thing, because it confirms that i can learn and master 1 putting style and thats it.
the other thing that this weekend confirmed, is that i'm a long way from mastering the straddle putt, but i can straddle/straddle jump putt all the way out to 60ft without having to change putter.
so im now a convert, straddle all the way.
One dat I hope to put like Barry.!

I went practice putting last night and modified my technique a bit for more consistant results. I changed up my stance to allow for more of a pitch and to align myself better with the chains. I'm now standing about shoulder-width apart with my right foot foward by about a foot's length (if you drew a line horizontally from my right heel it would meet with the toes of my left foot). Just enough to make me feel more stable when shifting my weight. I still put a modicum of spin on the disc but I'm now starting with the disc down between my knees to get a good pitch. Lastly I fixed my grip. I hated how inconsistant my release was on putts and did some research to find out its almost universally agreed upon that all four fingers need to be under the flight plate and I was keeping my index finger on the rim. Initial impressions were positive. Even though I wasn't sinking a ton from more than 15' out I was hitting metal on nearly every putt and thats improvement that makes me smile.

I don't mean to say it can't work. I found a few instructional vids on youtube where the instructor uses that style of grip. But as I looked further into grip I found most advised that all 4 be under the flight plate. Since I felt my releases were inconsistant at best and sloppy at worst I decided to change up the grip, and my releases aren't magically perfect all the sudden but it has been a marked improvement so far both in gettting a clean release and accurate putt. Its all subjective, ya know? What works for my hands won't work for the next and might work moderately well for the pair after that.

I can straddle putt and "inline" putt. Usually, I putt with one foot forward (inline). However, sometimes I just stand over the putt and feel like straddle putting would be better. Depending on if its a downhill, uphill, level, short, or a long putt will help me make my decision. I straddle for all uphill putts (more power this way) and severely downhill putts (can get lower so its not as far down). I always inline putt long putts (unless they're uphill) so I can put more power on it. And, feel it out for level ground short putts.
Anyone else do this?

I'm trying to figure out which form is best for consistency because I straddle and am really unconsistent.
I had a major break trough whils playing pp360 in the park the other day.
the trick with the straddel putt is to imagine that the disc is a 175 g ball. Swing your arm, pendulum style, back and forth weighing up the shot as if the disc were a ball. Focus 100% on this swing, smooth and consistent, just trying to lob the ball in the basket. (throwing the disc on its side can simulate the flight of the ball)
Now you have the weighting of the pitch right, the 'ball' is gonna go in. However due to the discs shape you need to get it rotating to keep it flying through the air and not tumbling, so as you swing your arm pendulum style, curl and uncurl our wrist gently to give the disc enough spin to keep it level.
Once you have the hang of the spin the disc its just a question of getting the weighting right.
you'll know when you figure this out right, because the basket will start to look like a catchers mitt.

I've switched many times between the straddle or the weight transfer and I feel better with the latter. I only use the straddle within 15 feet and on windy days. It all depends how you feel that particular day. Sometimes you like to straddle and bang away, and sometimes you like to bang it sideways.

Anybody putt forehand?
I never had a FH shot to speak of and then one day I just started approaching with a FH flick and it was like I hit the pole 3 out of 4 times from 80-100 feet out! I still use that shot for approaches but I've never felt stable enough using it to use it for putting.

I use weight transfer pitch/spin putt, depending on what is necessary for the situation. I've tried straddle putting but could never got comfortable with it. I'll use it if something is in my way and I need to balance myself out more.

Completely depends on the situation. I like the one foot forward but if i have to reach around a tree then i'll use a stradle. Althought one foot forward is my standard go to

All I do is forehand putt. When I first started my forehand was the best and its only grown and I could never get the BH putts down so recently I switched to forehand putting. It is working out great for me!
