I let the forum know back in September that I would be working on getting a DG course installed in my hometown as my Action Research Project for college. Well my first update is this:

I let the town know what I was going to do be doing with my project "a feasibility study" about putting a DG course in the new park they're building.

They responded favorably, and we're going to have a meeting and walk around the land next week.

Local guy that has installed several courses is in on the project, will be helping me with my paper and in getting things together to get a course planned/designed.

And i have potential donations from some really awesome DG vendors.

So here's hoping the next week of things go smooth, and if they do i'll be planning a course that is 5 minutes away by car...20 minutes by bike and 45 minutes away on foot.

Wegmans should get in on the donations. The wineries will often by signage if you promentnely feature their logo on the signs.

The east side of town needs more courses. The only course that is somewhat close by is Ellison and I tend not to play there often as it's too crowded. I suppose I could do something about it but it's so much easier to sit at my desk and pout :)

Awesome, man. Let me know if you need any help with labor, etc. Good luck getting it done. Any new course is awesome!

With Canandaigua being a bit out of the way from Rochester, you should be able to lure local restaurants and businesses into sponsoring some holes. We're gonna be hungry after playing, and need some ideas for grub.

Sooo true. Everything's out west.

Weren't they doing walkthroughs at Powdermill Park at one point? Have you heard anything more on that?

It would be a great spot for a course. There's plenty of great hills and elevation changes to design around.

AND it's on the East side of town....

I thought there were plans for one on the East side, like maybe Victor area?

You do plenty for the sport right there at your desk

Ok, I'm thinking Penfield/Webster. Victor is still a 20 minute drive :)

Seabreeze sucks, how about they give up and turn it into a disc golf park :) That's still a drive too.
There are a lot of parks in those areas, so maybe someday.

Awesome Will. Good luck with the project. I'm sure you'll be giving us updates. Looking forward to playing "your" course.

Webster park has some great terrain, but seems to be pretty crowded with pavillions and such.

Penfield definitely has room around that big reservoir. Can't remember the name of that park.

Have you heard anything at all about Powdermill, Tim? Bushnells Basin isn't really far from Rochester at all...

If there's anything at all I can do to help any new local courses pop up, let me know.

I wasn't aware of anything going on in Powdermill. Webster Park would be pretty sweet.. or Mendon Ponds also has some nice terrain.

Found something:

Looks like maybe after the Worlds this year. Would be a great place for it. I heard the Arrowhead boyscout camp (Mike Drees) was involved. At one point, Google Maps had the hole locations mapped out. Can't find it now.

Sidenote: Have they announced the dates for each course played in the AMs this year? Need to take time off, you see...

On Powder Mills: Yes they have plans to work on Powder Mills park, and I know some of the areas that they're thinking about...If you've been to Black Diamond the terrain is somewhat similar. If that course goes it in will be freaking fantastic.

I have been doing a lot of networking lately and this is coming along nicely up to a point. I'll be walking the land (that I've already looked over) and looking at the plans for the other half of the park sometime within the next two weeks. I will be posting images of the land once I know where the firm property lines are.

From my understanding we have about 14 acres right now with which to do ANYTHING. There is a line of trees about 10' wide next to a creek that goes up 1/3 of the property...and I think there is a huge pond on our chunk of land...i'm afraid that MIGHT be on the other property...that's why I'm not posting pictures and stuff yet.

Fortunately the work being done on the other side of the park will give us a lot of loose dirt to do with what we want...so we can create some elevation changes and such....we'll need to plant bushes and some trees. Might even want some man made obstacles for the first few years until the plant life can catch up.

If anybody lives near Clearwater florida...or anybody knows people on here that DO live near clearwater...please let me know. I need somebody to guide the parks and rec guy around while he's on vacation in a few weeks...I've already got the Clearwater disc golf store guys involved :)

The local club has 2-3 potential new courses in the works...that might be one actually.

I talked with the local course installing pro, Dave, and he gave me some great advice, and a lot of encouragement.

He's in on this project all the way. He's a powerful ally in this.
