Just completed a recent roundtrip roadtrip from Baltimore, MD, to Oak Ridge, TN. This put me on I81, mostly in Virginia, some in Tennessee, for nearly 400 miles.
Thanks to this site (way to go, timg!), and the reviewers, link/file posters, etc., I was able to locate all the disc golf courses within 15 miles of I81 along the way.
I wrote reviews on all the courses I played, so see them for more details if interested, but here's my take on the courses:
FAVOURITES:
Signal View only 9 holes but 3 tees, well designed, good variety, scenic
Randolph Park wooded doglegs 11x, open/long 7x, water park on site
Morristown wooded, doglegs of all types, easy to follow
COMMENDED:
Sherando very solid course, good variety
Westover up the slope but below the trees
Staunton multi-tee/multi-basket = many options
OTHERS:
Fishburn 9 holes, mostly RHBH hyzers, bit damp
Walrond 9 holes, open, difficult-to-find tees
Wash. and Lee 13 baskets make 18 holes, bit cramped at times
Borden Park flat, wet/bog-like, large trees, approach-practice
NOT PLAYED - MAYBE SOME THIS SUMMER WHEN I REPEAT THIS TRIP:
Luray
Massanutten
Golden Hills
Emory and Henry
Steele Creek
Warriors Path
Winged Deer
Shady Glen
Fossil Hill
Carson-Newman
I also played 4 of the 5 courses in the Knoxville/Oak Ridge area:
FAVOURITE: Groves Park Four tees, former stick-golf course, scenic
COMMENDED: Victor Ashe Long, gentle landscape, great tee areas
PLAYED: Admiral Farragut 9 holes, decent variety, short, crowded
PLAYED: Carl Yearwood 9 holes, flat, small-tree random/pinball
NOT PLAYED: Morningside
As a first-time visitor to most of these parks, I really appreciate the locals who build, maintain, and support the parks. Posting COURSE MAPS online is very, very useful - please do so for your local course!
