We laid out a new 18-hole course this Saturday, and I heard from the owners that construction is already underway with two holes cut yesterday.

The course will be the 2nd course in Georgia that's on private property and will be pay-to-play, $5/day. It will be located at North Georgia Canopy Tours http://www.northgeorgiacanopytours.com/, which is about 1 hour north of downtown Atlanta.

Think zipline tours in Costa Rica -- that's this place, set on ~130 acres in the foothills of North Georgia. Facilities include a zipline tours, clubhouse with vending & restrooms, grilling areas, camping, hiking, geocaching and more.

The DG course will have two sets of concrete teepads, advanced/pro level and rec level. The long pads will play ~7,500' and par 63 (includes one par 5); haven't designed the short pads yet but will be same par and more beginner friendly but still challenging. Awesome variety of terrain in a very hilly piece of property with holes ranging from heavily wooded to wide open to in-between. One hole plays inside a fully enclosed building that used to be a chicken house; the building is 430' long x 40' wide x 20' high and perfectly straight.

Will be open by Spring 2011 with a grand opening event in April/May 2011 timeframe.

This should be a very good course because of facilities and the terrain, but moreso because the owners are not opposed to cutting trees that need to be cut. So it should end up having completely valid flight paths devoid of luck/fairway trees.

The owners are looking for local businesses interested in purchasing hole sponsorships in exchange for advertising placement at the tee area; if anyone on here is interested you can contact them through their website.

Update on this course: We did the final walkthrough last weekend. The course is 90% cleared and looking fantastic. Innova baskets have arrived and been assembled and most teepads are in. The course will have two sets of concrete pads with a few holes having fly pads on wooden frames. I believe the course is opening within the next two weeks. It's very muddy given the recent construction and rain here, so recommend visiting after a dry spell, but this course will mature very nicely.

Approximate distances:
short pads (rec level) -- 5,300
long pads (blue level) -- 7,200
Par 61

:thmbup:this is very exciting indeed! had no idea this was going on...the fam lives in gville and I always have to take them to central or toccoa to play. I'll be there next weekend, will this be open to play or not yet? At any rate, can't wait to get out there

Looking forward to this course. Too bad this isn't ready this weekend, I'm itching to try a new place on Sunday. Luckily lots of choices out there, but glad that another will be coming soon.

Sweet. I've heard a few things about this course. I have clients in Gainesville and have to travel there once a month or so.

Cool.

Must check this out! Sounds awesome and I can't wait to play it! Maybe next week sometime? What's the general consensus on how well it plays? Anyone going to be free that wants to tag along?

Sounds like a place I'm going to have to check out. Not sure when, but next time I'm on that side of North Georgia I'll check it out. Any suggestions on the best route there from Atlanta?

From Atlanta it's a straight shot up I-85 to I-985 then is 5 minutes off the highway. Google maps directions are accurate. Exactly one hour drive from my house in downtown Atlanta.
