I am curious what the general standards are for cancelling tourneys or delaying tourneys due to weather. It is forecast to be rain all day Sunday and I am registered for a tourney about 1 1/2 hours from my house. I have contacted the TD ( but I havent heard back yet) for his input about this and how and when the decision is made to cancel or postpone tourneys. Also what happens if a tourney gets cancelled do they simply refund your money or give everyone a prize package or something?

What doy your local groups do during tournaments with inclement weather. Is it only cancelled due to lightning or other dangerous conditions? I played a tourney in the snow and it was nasty, but I am unsure about how easily the TD's delay or cancel during rain or other conditions.

Any input will help.

Considering the amount of effort involved, unless there is something that would imminently endanger players at the tournament (lightning, hail, tornadoes), getting to/from the tournament (flooding, snow) or make course play impossible (flooding, severe tree damage from ice or wind storm), most tournaments I've been in have a policy of going ahead, rain or shine.

Oddly enough, I had a tournament get postponed earlier this year by a freak late March snowstorm, and may get postponed again due to flooding. I'm also playing in one this weekend, and the forecast sounds rather wet. I in fact, just got back from K-Mart with a new poncho and umbrella that I can stuff in my bag.

I know of one tournament that was postponed due to the hurricane that past here last September. Weather has to be pretty extreme. I think if the park is open, then the tournament will be played, unless there is dangerous weather like lighting. HTH.

We had a tournament scheduled to play about 1 hour away from my house. The forecast was calling for a blizzard. 10-20" of snow were expected. We had still planned to go and decided to make the call in the morning of the tournament. We drove all the way up there from my house, got out, played a few practice holes. Decided that my friend needed boots. We went down the highway to the Wal-Mart , but at that point the roads were icing up so we decided to head back to Denver.

Apparently they still held the tournament, but were scare to find players that day. So I guess sometimes yu can brave the elements other times its not worth it...

I would say this applies to most all tournaments.

Thats good to hear disc golfers aren't wimps. I play golf in any weather so I can definitely play disc golf in any weather. I don't have to hang onto my club, I just have to make sure the disc doesn;t slip right out of my power grip!

The TD responded bascially saying the same thing, I am glad, because I was really looking forward to another tourney!. Maybe this time my ACE won;t be in the CTP contest, it will be on the course.
