Decided to give myself a shot at disc dying so I'm taking baby steps. I have a slightly used XCal that I took some nail-polish remover to and this is what I wound up with. Notice the little ghost of the old star and innova logo on the disc. There is no image, only what looks like an outline, is this normal? I saw some people go with straight acetone but I'm just going a bit on a budget. Any insights and opinions are greatly appreciated. :D

EDIT

The original stamp was a metallic blue.

Yup. You wont get rid of the burned in hot stamp. Acetone is the same exact price as nail polish remover and works great.

From what I recall learning about the removal of stamps, The hotter it was when it was pressed the more of a ghosted image that will be left behind. As far as nail polish remover is concerned, acetone is the active ingredient. My wife's nail polish remover sitting in front of me says "100% acetone" on the front. The only other ingredient listed on the back is Denatonium Benzoate, which is simply an additive to make it taste bad so kids and dummies don't ingest it. I don't have any other brands of nail polish remover handy but I'd wager that not all are fully acetone.

Full strenght 100 % acetone is only $.97 at the Wally World in the nail polish aisle. Some disc I've done always leave a slight image, Discraft disc seem worse than Innova.

Thanks! I only found acetone with solvents in the hardware dept... had no idea you could buy it for less than 7 bucks!

The image that I'm going to try is this one. I'm just going to do it in one color. Is there an alternative to sign vinyl? The only place I've found it is online and I have to buy it by the roll...

The metallic hotstamps seem to be a little trickier to remove, but a leftover impression is normal on many discs. You may be able to get scraps of sign vinyl from a local sign shop, or buy contact paper.

The alternative to vinyl that I use is Con-Tact brand clear contact paper. $5 dollars in the kitchen area of walmart. It's used to line shelves.
