NC vs. SC friendly

I'm an NC native but I now live in the upperstate of SC (Greenville). our NC meets have been awesome and I wanted to bring that to SC. so I propose a friendly battle of the Carolinas. the format will be doubles best shot. each card will be one NC pair vs one SC pair. the first round will be @ Richmond HIll in Asheville. the second round will be @ Va-Du-Mar in Boiling Springs SC. we can call this Part 1: the battle of I-26.

I propose we have this battle Saturday March 26 at 10am. DST will have started and last I checked there isn't another event running concurrently.

well this got started when I suggested an Asheville based NC meetup. then it snowballed into a rivalry match. I picked Asheville because I've never played there and it's like 20 minutes closer to where I live. now that we've sprawled into a rivalry match Asheville is still closer for the rest of the Upstate since it's further west. I know Asheville a haul from Raleigh. and also these events get people to play unfamiliar places etc.

Yeah, I was gonna say the Charlotte area as well and not just because it would be convenient that I live there. It is pretty centralized for a "vs." meetup of this nature. Either way, I was only able to play the first 9 holes at Richmond Hill in Asheville so I want to make it back up there. Oh, and Va-du-Mar is str8 up awesome. I will definitely try to make it to that course for round 2 as well.

I'm in for the NC side - trekking from Raleigh and don't mind going to Asheville, since the last time I was there I missed out on playing Richmond Hill. Plus it's Beer City, USA for 2 years in a row. That alone makes it a perfect destination.

Yeah when I lived in Fort Mill (for all of 2 months) everyone said Boyd Hill was a good place to get mugged. I never went and was too close to Charlotte to bother with it.

If you guys really want to we can do something like Renny Gold one day and Winthrop Gold the next. but this will have to wait until the fall. let's get the battle of I-26 completed and then we'll have the Battle of I-77.

Don't make it too complicated. Nobody wants to drive around when they could be playing. How about pick one state for this meet, and then we play the other state next time. Maybe 3 or 4 months later. If I get to Asheville, I am playing in that area for a couple days. Plenty of courses to hit.

Every year we (Asheville Club) have a cross state doubles event with Tennessee and play 2 courses in Asheville the first day and 2 courses in Johnson City/Kingsport area the next day. That could have been hot. Richmond Hill / Mars Hill on Day 1, Va-Du-Mar / Easley on Day 2.

Either way... I might be able to make it. I'm sure if discchainbasket18 finds out, he's in.

Home field advantage?? We're planning on playing the first time in SC. I'd say you suthin' boys already have the first home field advantage. We should play for beer or food. Small stakes though. Just pride. Or if we have a talented person among us, we could create a trophy, jug or disc that a member of the winning team gets to keep until next time. Then they can post it on here and talk trash. If I am able to attend this first one, I'll volunteer to find, create or buy the trophy or disc with some input from some of you.

oh wow a lot of replies. this isn't a real serious event. I just wanted to play golf with some of the old NC homeboys and try to meet some of the Upper State's finest DGCRers. My schedule has had a happy change. I no longer have to leave the afternoon round (the Lenten Calendar can be difficult for leisure activities). but yes if you want to RSVP just do it here for all to see. no secrets just say your user name plus however many you can drag into this. it's very informal and casual and all about fun and laughs and disc golf.

well the weather forecast from this morning was saying scattered thunderstorms for Saturday. and it also called for rain all weekend. I'm not 100% faithful in weather forecasts since they usually get it wrong. This is the last weekend I feel like we could have the meet. Next weekend at VDM they are having the SC Jr. State championships. then the weekend after that is the Stoney Hill Challenge. the next weekend is the Atlanta Open. the next weekend is Easter. Maybe one of those weekends between now and Easter we could just do a Western NC meetup. man I feel bummed.

If this gets rained out I won't reschedule this until the Fall.

Charlotte would be optimal. The original plan was for Va-Du-Mar, and I have no problem with that either. Va-Du-Mar is one of my favs.

I guess we could plan for the spring time just so that everyone has enough advance notice to plan for a Saturday that it would be held on.

well last time we talked about a NC meetup we settled on september/october. i think a lot of us guys in raleigh have children, jobs/school so it's not easy getting a lot of people together.

if you want to wait til spring for NC/SC meetup in the queen city i'm down. i still think we should try to get a NC meetup sometime this year either here in raleigh or halfway between raleigh and charlotte, we could still schedule an october/early november weekend and i'd be down for that too. although personally i can only do the 1/2 or 15/16 of october because i've got some music festivals coming up i have to go cover. i'd even be down for a weekend at the end of this month because that would fit my schedule more.

maybe we should start a poll for dates and whichever one everybody decides on just set it then.

Glad this has some life again. Fox Chase is real solid and a great central spot from a Raleigh perspective. Like New said, a few of us have rugrats - as long as I don't have them the weekend it's scheduled, then I am in.

DISC_combobulated and I (and likely a few others from our club) were planning on hitting Charlotte from Oct 9 through 11 (camping 2 nights) and 10-15 courses in three days. Probably a little ambitious, but figure we can run through Renny and others on weekdays and not get bogged down by traffic. Could be a possible weekend to schedule something in Charlotte as well.

It comes as no surprise, and I aint blaming/busting on Ian with this - He has other things and I understand - but every time I send an invite to at least a hundred people who I have seen been online within the past month, as well as living within close proximity to said meet-up course, only a handful of people ever show up. Dont be surprised if only about 8 people (at most) show up at this thing.:\

I had actually thought about this, but for now we seem to be struggling to get this off the ground. I figured after a couple of successful "border wars", we can make this a little more of a legit meetup.

So, is this turning into an all NC affair? I say we stick with Fox Chase, regardless of what it becomes, with the November 5th date. Lets see if there is any responses from the SC brethren. If no responses, we can start another thread for an NC civil war and keep this one for the future NC vs SC friendly.
