La Mirada is now set up for the Golden State Classic Tournament coming up June 20-21. This is a PDGA qualifying tournament, and they've converted LaMa's two 18-hole courses into a single monster course that's over 9400' long. 10 tournament holes are over 500', with half a dozen over 600.

We didn't know the course was set up for the tournament when we went out to LaMa yesterday to play the "back 18." The first three baskets were in their usual places, but we started finding "missing" baskets at 4. We figured they were getting started on the tourney course and just made up our own targets for missing baskets near the normal pin positions. Then after my buddy's amazing birdie on hole 10-tourney hole 14 (65-ish feet!), we caught up with another group who where playing the tournament course.

We attempted the next hole on the tournament map -- normally holes 11+12, tourney hole 15 is the longest and most difficult shot on the tourney course. It's a punishing 880' long and shoots straight down a narrow median strip between a busy street and a busier parking lot. After three shots into the street and 12 throws between us, we were still at least 300' from the pin in blazing sunshine at high noon. We abandoned our quest in favor of ice cream at the pro shop.

You'll need to reliably shoot at least 250-300' dead straight to play this course, otherwise you're likely to wear yourself out before you're through. If you're traveling to Southern California between now and the end of June, be advised!

The tournament should be fun to attend. I'm looking forward to watching how the pros huck discs on this monster setup.
