View Full Version : Lemon Lake gets 2 more courses
Lemon Lake Flight Center in Crown Point Indiana is currently working on 2 more courses (weather permittin)....for a total of 6 courses in the park. We will be using terrain similar to the Gold/Silver course and hope to have them both finished by mid summer. Clearing the invasive Hawthorne tree patch began last fall and it opened up a steep downhill alley with the second lake at the bottom of the hill. The courses tentatively will start and stop near the pavilion where we held the players party at the Worlds in 2010. We already have a beginner friendly course so these will be designed with competition in mind....

Hey Bart, ever any chance of gettng camping going at Lemon? With this becoming more and more of an all day/multiple day destination; would be wonderful if players could stay for more than one day; right on site.

Can't wait. Heard about these at the Homie tournament. Great having this complex not to far away from home. Keep up the great work!

Sounds like I have a place to go this fall for a weekend!

Wow! That's some great news. Coming from Chicago, that's just the kind of stuff I need. Every course worthy as a destination is up to 1 hr (or so) from me so making LL even more diverse will make my ventures out there more frequent and way more enjoyable..
Thanks to everyone who is helping to make LL so great!

This calls for a Lemon Lake marathon, start at sunrise, play all 7 sets of tees out there when the two new courses are done

not with more than like 6 ppl mash, we play 18 holes in 2-3 hours. And are you saying gold to gold and silver to silver?

Man I love living an hour from here. Can't wait for these to be finished. Especially if they are going to be gold/silver like.:D

I was saying that as something fun for me to go do, not necessarily a big event, though it would be fun to do it as a time trial sort of thing where you try to beat the record time for playing all the courses. It's amazing how much play slows down when you get bigger groups like that. I was thinking silver to silver and gold to gold.

gold to gold took me and jack like 3 hours

Yeah, but you can make up time on Blue and White, those can go pretty quick. You'd have to do it in the summer (perfect, since that's when the new courses are supposed to be done) to get it all in during daylight.

yeah that'd be pretty ridiculous. Still haven't played red yet. So i'm hoping Intermediate for the doubles plays White and Red, although I did like blue

Red is the most fun course on the property IMO, great mix of tight tech shots and a couple that are more open but still punish bad shots.

You've never played red?!?! That is the best one imho.

yeah well we started with blue. Then went to gold. Played gold tees to gold pins, and on hole 7 I lost my first run nuke. The first disc I ever bought, and looked for it for about an hour and a half. I still deny that discs existance. Then we played white. We were gonna play red, but we were exhausted, so we went home.

Ditto. Or, by the looks of things from an aerial map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Lemon+Lake+County+Park,+W+133rd+Ave,+Crown+Point ,+Lake,+Indiana+46307-8707&aq=&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=57.641503,114.169922&ie=UTF8&geocode=FS11dwId5EbK-g&split=0&hq=&hnear=Lemon+Lake+County+Park,+W+133rd+Ave,+Crown+P oint,+Indiana+46307-8707&ll=41.385012,-87.402495&spn=0.006762,0.013937&t=h&z=17), these courses will be very wooded and very secluded. I love to de-stress by just getting away from it all.....and playing DG while doing that is even better. All the good courses around here are in city parks or otherwise not very wooded/secluded (Highland Park in Joliet is the exception). Just on Gold/Silver and these 2 new ones, I can easily see spending an entire day and loving it.
Great job Bart and crew!

Jukeshoe: <---Dies of excitment!
I thought it was just going to be one course. Two is OUTSTANDING!
I also like the idea of two tougher courses out there (as opposed to easier). Gold is amazingly fun for a very difficult course.

Oh....and one more thing, Bart. If you are having a workday on a weekend, feel free to post here or PM me. I tend to stay pretty busy with 3 elementary aged kids, but I would love to be able to make it down to put a little sweat equity into the courses.

This. I think there are probably several of us who would be willing and interested in helping out with that.

Ditto. I'll probably be working on Creek Ridge a bit this spring with gordonbombay, but if I have time open I'd love to help out at Lemon Lake! :)

Has anyone sketched out a layout for these two new courses similar to the ones they have for the Blue, Red, and White on the aerial map? When I heard there was going to be 1 new course added, I didn't think there was room, now I have no idea where they are going to squeeze in 2 new courses.

That is a good question. I was also worried about space issues with the new course, let alone the second. That said, I'm by no means intimately familiar with the entire LL compound, nor it's property lines, etc.
I'm guessing there is quite a lot of space available behind Gold.

there is still plenty f available land out at the lake. from my first thoughts i would think the two new courses would be on the northwest corner and northeast corner of the fishing lake. bart could correct me if im wrong but off hand i think that would be the logical locations.

They've done a really nice job so far of not cramming stuff in out there, I would assume they've got room to spread it out if they're going forward with it. They want to be able to have big tournies on all the courses, so I'm sure they have that in mind with not wanting different holes interfering when the course is full.

Yes, that was the area I had in mind too. I haven't wandered around back there very much, though, so I was less than certain.

According to his desciptions, that exactly where they should be. I've walked back into the area closest to silver/gold during worlds and there is lots of land there. I'm sure they could carve into the woods by white's 17, as I haven't been back there but I'm pretty sure there is a lot of land there also.
