Added a couple of icons to the reviews. The first is a little clock that will indicate that a review has been written and/or hasn't been updated in more than 1.5 years.

The second is a little car icon that indicates a drive-by reviewer. That icon will show if someone has only written one review and hasn't logged in and/or written another review in at least 3 months.

These icons are strictly for display, all the reviews still count.

It's worth noting that these icons appear to the left of the title of the review, above the line.

Very nice addition.

So people with more than one review are safe from the drive by or only for three months?

Yes. The definition of drive-by is a one review wonder so if you have 2 you're safe :)

I had the no login period set to one month but thought that might have been a bit strict. I may change it to 2 months.

I got a car next to my one review. Guess I need to get out and do another review.

Most of the real drive by reviews are courses in the top 20 and up, I would guess.:\

I dont like that the car shows up in what appears to be MY review on three or four of my reviews. The placing of the car looks like I am a drive-by reviewer when in fact I have reviewed twelve, and I log on every single day.

Like the car, dislike the placing.

it took forever to find what you were talking about
REview with car on bottom. (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/reviews.php?id=3897&page=1&mode=rev#24349)

Look at my post #3 in this thread. That's why I felt I needed to point it out.

there just needs to be a border around the title line

I love the new feature. This site is always getting better....

The placement of the car is fine, its the border line that is placed between the title and its review. The way the border is placed it appears to be part of the review above. Small tweak and it'll be perfect

The review header has been like that for ages. It designates the start of the next review with relevant review stats in the shaded area below the solid line. If someone doesn't put a title I can see how it might be confusing but putting the line above the title wouldn't look right IMO.

I think most people realize the current review is over when they see the "was it helpful?" question.

maybe there should be a threshold total for drive-by review status.... meaning if somebody has written 10+ reviews they are automatically excluded from 'drive-by' status. 3 months in-between reviews is kinda short for seasonal players.

mashnut

The review threshold is already there, it only applies to users with a single review.

Cool, I see. But this needs to be reworded:

How can i write only one review and/or another one 3 months later?

Love it - however it's kind of small and took a bit to even notice. And that's when I was looking for it. However, it's a great idea, and makes me go back and check those older reviews. Thanks Tim.

I noticed the very first little car and little clock today so I looked for this very thread, so I guess from my end I noticed them pretty immediately.

I agree that we should definitely make the standard for avoiding this status more than doing two reviews. Often a lot of our drive by folks do their work in twos, often to downgrade a high course they don't like, and upgrade a so-so one that they do.

Here is the language in the FAQ:

A drive by reviewer is someone that has only reviewed one course (often times giving it a very high or a very low score) and hasn't written another review in at least 3 months and/or hasn't logged in for at least 2 months after posting his/her first review.

Changed the "old review" icon to show up for 2 years rather than 1.5.

I agree.

Also, this review (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/reviews.php?id=106&page=1&mode=rev#26726) would still get the icon. This guy has been playing for years, has a score of courses under his belt, yet this may be the only review he writes. And it is a damn good review. 100% thumbs up from the readers.

The clock icon is great, but the played/reviewed stats are already visible, and people can figure out the drive-by nature of reviews themselves, I say.

Why chance turning off potential readers with an icon doesn't take into the context of the review?

The reviewer in question above is also a "stat addict" and "course explorer" in his Achievements. If you are participating here on this site at that level, it separates you from Drive-By status even more....

Maybe in you only, and I mean only, have played/reviewed one course and haven't logged in for months you can get this, but all of the merit badges and wonky stat machines on this site should DQ you from DB status as well, if you use them.

I like the icons!

myself as well.

saw the car next to one a night or two ago, moused over and read 'drive-by' something something, didn't make much sense of it.

now, seems like a cool feature and another grain of salt to add to review reading.

I think some of you are confused by the 'drive-by' icon. It is for people who posted ONE REVIEW, then posted nothing after 3 months. All you have to do to avoid that icon is to post your second review EVER within 3 months, and you are permanently out of the grasp of the 'drive-by' icon.

I also think that if somebody is a stat addict, and have other achievements, and only has ONE review, they should still get the icon (unlike what is being discussed). Just because they play disc golf and are active on the site does not mean that their reviews are exciting or good......especially if there is only one. If they are THAT active, they can upload another review to exempt themselves from drive-by status.
