How does weight change a discs flight?

Hello guys,

Kevin from Shreveport Louisiana checking in with a newb question.

If I have three discs produced from the same mold but in different weights, say 150, 165 and a 175; how does the weight change flight?

Do you change the way you throw each disc based on these weights?

My frustration comes from drivers specifically.

I have found that the heavier the disc, the more stable it becomes. Just what I have noticed.

Everything else being equal, i.e. plastic type, wear etc. the heavier disc should theoretically be more overstable.

I wouldn't say I throw different weights of the same mold differently but I do use different weights of a same mold for different shots. I throw DX Valkyries in a few different weights. The 150 gm will turnover and go to the right then fade back to the left, it's understable for me at this weight-I'm overpowering it to get max distance. My 167 gm will go straight with a slight fade at the end, this is the speed at which this mold at this weight is intended to fly. If I were to throw a 175 gm it would probably go straight for a ways then turn hard left because I'm not generating enough torque to get this weight driver up to speed.

With all the different molds and weights out there my best advice to newer players is to start with light drivers in easy to throw molds, Leopards, XL's etc. and then move up from there.

I notice pretty much the same thing ..... when I actually throw the disc correctly. Everything I throw from 169gr up is really ugly because I try to muscle it more and with already shakey technique ... well you know the outcome. Thanks.
