I recently drank a Red Bull right before the second round of a tournament and my score improved by 6 strokes over the first round. I felt motivated and had more of a killer instinct than I normally have when playing.
Has anyone else noticed an improvement of their game due to the imbibing of some type of energy drink before a round?

2 cans of Joose and I'm good to go.
Sometimes I will take a six hour energy shot before playing. I feel like it makes me alert but not overflowing with energy. I still focus well and score about the same.

I have never really felt anything but my wallet get lighter when I've bought those things. I almost think it is mental. I will give it a try before a round and see how it works though. I"ll let you know. I like the sounds of losing six strokes!

I recently tried steriods to see if it would help my game, I got them from a cousin who goes to the domincan republic... No honestly anytime I've ever tried drinking one before a round it really just makes me more alert, but no six stroke improvements for me. They do help when I go play mulitple rounds throughout the day to keep me on my game through most of the day but really just to keep me awake and focused.

If I don't warm up with some drives and play 5-6 holes I typically have a much better second nine over the front nine.

You've obviously never had the Joose. Energy drink + 9.9% malt liquor. You'll feel it alright, although I find I usually add 6 strokes rather than remove 6.

Long story but the short of it is I can't smell energy drinks without having to hold back my lunch. Energy levels haven't been much of an issue for me on the course and I have other ways of feeling focused.

That about sums it up for me.
I know it sounds ike a cliche', but I get my energy from being out there, throwin' plastic and hearin' chains.

2500mcg of B12. B12 is a big thing in energy drinks. Its 41,667% of your daily value so you get the boost without all that other crap in energy drinks and you dont have the crash!! Its a little sublingual tab that tastes like berry and dissolves in about 30 seconds. You can get a bottle a walmart for bout 3 bucks, so its alot cheaper then all those drinks too.

"Energy" drinks are mostly just caffeine delivery systems. You'll get the same jolt from coffee.
That said, I sometimes buy the Rockstar "Juiced" drinks, because I don't like coffee, and that 50%-juice formula isn't half bad.

If you want a quality boost try GU Energy products. I've used their
energy gel before when I did long distance cycling. That stuff kicked
in hard and gave me enough of a boost that even after riding 105 mi
the previous day and already 90 mi that day I exploded with enough
energy to double my pace til the end and pass people that had passed
me long before. I was genuinely impressed with the feeling of being
refreshed and I don't recall any kind of crash.

I've only ever seen it in cycling shops.

You gotta watch out for those energy drinks. A couple years ago I slammed 4 Red Bulls after a heavy night of drinking and went to class. Right in the middle of lecture I suffered some sort of seizure and put it off to the severe amount of caffeine I had consumed. It wasn't convulsing on the floor type ****, but I couldn't hold my head up and got really dizzy. I still drink a Rockstar or 2, but never again will I drink RB like I used to. Back to the matter at hand, yes, I find it helps having one between rounds.

I never really saw DG as a sport that would include performance enhancers. I do bring along a Vitamin Water to quench my thirst on hot days though.

I am an energy drink junkie myself. The NOS drinks are pretty good, and the monster coffees are not half bad. Too bad they banned ephedra. :)

I'm not sure if it was just mental, or I had an "on" round, but last weekend I played a 1 day 2-round tourney. Because it was a 2 hour drive, I had to get up at 5am. After lunch I usually start losing energy <about 3pm or so>, so I decided to get one of the 5 hour energy to try and help me keep my energy up. I shot one of my best rounds the 2nd round ever on the course <even par 54>, and wound up in first place after being behind 2 strokes after the first round. I'm now going to make it part of my routine right after lunch between rounds to take 1 of these, well at least during the further away tourneys, the ones that are local I usually don't have to get up very early.

I don't do energy drinks. some are quite bad for you and I have never seen the need for them. I rarely even dring anything with caffeine in it.

I am not a dietician but I would have to agree from a layman perspective that they can't be too awful good for you.
My guess is pro atheletes in other sports don't do sports drinks either.
Well, maybe snowboarding or something... sure, I can see that. :^p
The energy shots I use have zero sugar and are packed with B vitamins. I drink one before I head to the course then drink water while I'm playing.

5 hour energy works well and like FORE said, no sugars which is a HUGE plus when it comes to crashing out and health.

I'm a procrastinating, sleep-deprived college student and I swear by Viso energy, I believe they sell them at 7-11, clocking in at 300mg of caffeine that's around 3 full cups of coffee, twice as much as Rockstar and 3 and a half times more than a Red Bull. They also have a full multi-vitamin, and they're non-carbonated so they're easier do get down in the early mornings. They have two sugar free energy varieties, but they also have 4 or 5 that are non-caffeinated so make sure to get the ones marked "energy"
Oh, and much of the Red Bull craze is media-induced placebo, they have the exact same amount of caffeine as an average cup of coffee ~80mg.

Caffeine doesn't really do much for me which is why I love Red Bull. It's not the caffeine that the energy comes from but all the other ingredients/vitamins

Well then I want my wings, dammit!
But 5 hour energy also only has about 80mg of caffeine and sure does the trick. But I get a bad crash from it...

definately agree...that's why I always just carry water in my bag, I'll keep a powerade in my cooler for after the round to "re-hydrate". Also why I tried the "5 hour energy" vs. energy drinks.

Nothing but water and the occasional sports drink for me. Especially if it is hot outside, anything sweet ends up making me thirstier. I have tried a few of the various energy drinks over the years, but I didn't like the taste of any of them.
