I'm dropping my habit for hoarding up plastic. Things have taken a turn for the worst in my personal life and I need to spend a lot of time working on myself as a person and keeping myself happy, I am dealing with severe depression and anxiety and this habit I have developed is a way for me to escape reality and is not healthy. My one request. Don't sell to me.

there was another guy who made the same request and his thread was landfilled and locked.
I wish you the best of luck and will try to remember not to sell anything to you.

Hang in there cali. FWIW, I'm not buying any more discs for a very long time after today, so I can be your solidarity brother in that regard. So if you go into your bin of discs and sniff a CE Eagle and think that you might need another one, shoot me a PM and I'll talk you off that ledge. Be strong!

Hang in there man. Maybe just stick to trades?

I thought that too, but trades cost money to ship and trades lead to purchases. Trades are a gateway drug :)
You have to quit the marketplace cold turkey, you may have to take a break from the forums entirely so you are not tempted.

Hmmm maybe I will stop buying stuff and doing things that make me happy.
Ive cut down on buying and trading discs quite a bit but that might be because I have just about everything lol. I was making 2-3 orders a month and slowly cut it down to once a month then just to trading. Other than ordering quad shocks, I havent orderered anything in the last 2+ months. That might change tommorow tho when Marshall st posts up their new monthly specials but who knows.

I will never be done playing the game. It brings a lot of positivity into my life. I actually plan on playing more than ever this season.

I can fully relate Cali. I have been sober for almost 3 years now and if wasn't for me getting honest with myself it wouldve never happen. I had to reach out and stay away from my addiction. It's a 1 day at a time deal.....you aren't alone! 1 thing that really helped me has been prayer. Even if you don't believe you can believe that I believe and pray to that. It really helps! Pm me anytime and we can talk! We are here for ya!!!

I was clinicly depessed for months, just take it day by day. One day you will laugh about somthing and the clouds will fade. Just take to heart that you have concerned friends, your alive and a player.

Like Brettallen, I've been sober from other things for some time now. March will be 4 years of sobriety from alcohol and drugs. Disc golf has been a god-send in that regard. I used to play back in the day, but I never took it seriously. Playing sober has been amazing and I'm much better at this (and everything in life) than I was before. I get outside, get exercise, my rating jumped from 900 to 946. I've discovered tons of people play who don't need alcohol or drugs to enjoy it also. I never thought that was the case.

But, I too, will admit that I've substituted addictions a bit with this buying and selling of discs. It's easy to do. My girlfriend has been sober for over two years, and she calls my disc addiction "ACTION!" Whenever I get an email or a new package arrives, she says, "You get some more ACTION today? Show me the beautiful plastic!" At least she pretends to be excited about it. I'm thirty years old and could easily put down a deposit on a house. I teach high school and make the money to do it. But instead, I live in a low-rent apartment and collect thousands of dollars of discs. It's completely ridiculous. Many nights I ignore my beautiful girlfriend to check emails and box up discs to send to people I've never even golfed with.

But, I'm still doing well in the main areas that troubled me in my teenage years and early twenties, so I tell the concerned people in my life that I'll face it when I'm ready to give it up. I'm not quite where you are yet, Cali. Yet...

But even when I get there, I'm not sure I would have the courage to make a public admission like that. Much respect man.

It took a complete admission of powerlessness and having a problem for me to overcome the other stuff, so you're on the right track. Holler at me anytime if you'd like to talk more on this.

I'm one of the biggest idiots on here. I collected over 80 flat top rocs, and then about $1000 worth of 10x KC Rocs, and now I'm trying to flip all of them for rare Buzzzes (which is where I started a year and a half ago). I'm afraid it has nothing to do with the flight of the discs and everything to do with my need to escape my responsibilities and focus on this area of my life (where I can't get hurt or let others down) Disc golf trading is safe, if that makes sense...

I could go on and on... but I'll stop there...

My best advice to anyone in such a situation is that too often people look externally for things to bring them happiness: cars, clothes, jewelry, CD's & DVD's, food, alcohol, sex, plastic, whatever. We live in an era of instant gratification, buy-it-now, right?

The truth is that happiness can only come from within. So that's it, realize that one truth and you can start to move forward.
