I just joined this group yesterday and I've already learned so much from you all. I realize this group isn't my personal coach, but it is nice to get input from others since I usually play alone or with my the only other player I know(who is of equal skill level).

With that said, I have familiarized myself with the flex and hyzer flip shots in the last few days, but I have a few questions to smooth things out.

My form RHFH
1) My left shoulder is about 20-30 degrees left of my target
2) One step forward, putting my weight on me left foot
3) Twist hips counter clockwise
4) Push with my right shoulder
5) Lead with the right elbow (elbow is coming up and forward from my hip)
6) Pull arm forward with the elbow
7) Snap wrist forward and release with Hyzer(finish palm up for hyzer flip) or Anhyzer(finish with palm in handshake sort of form for flex shot)

Does that sound right to you all?

Secondly, I am getting a fair amount of wobble when the disc comes out of my hand. After the first 50-100 feet it stabilizes and flies as it should, but I know this is killing my distance. I feel like I could be throwing 400ft hyzer flips instead of 300ft. I grip with the control-based forehand(middle finger on rim, pointer on the bottom of the flight plate). I think it may have to do with the big base knuckle on my pointer finger, which rubs the rim on release. Anyone else had an issue like this? Any ideas for solutions? Could it be OAT?

Thanks for the help and sorry to be so long winded.

Learn the backhand.

I have a rotator cuff problem. Backhand drives are out of the question.

Learn the backhand with your [I]left[I] Oh I'm clever. But seriously my forehand only goes maybe 250 max so I don't know if I can help you. I feel just having my index finger inside the rim is necessary rather than that control grip you're using.

I'd say throw an ultimate disc around for a while, if you can throw it smoothly than you should be able to throw a disc smoothly. Also, my pointer finger has a giagantic callus where it rubs against the disc.

When I throw RHFH I usually have my index finger under the rim with the fingerprint side against it. My thumb is,of course,on top of the rim pressing against my index finger.I usually am standing still with the left side of my body facing towards the goal then throw across my body and try to release with a snap. I have found that if the disc was no more than 4 or 5ft off the ground when it was released and traveling that it seems to have less wobble and more distance.
Don't know if that will help or not.
The best thing you could probably do is go out to an open field, take the disc(s) you use for your FH drives and just experiment with different ways of throwing it forehand. Just because someone says to throw it a certain way doesn't mean you have to stick to that way and that way only. Find what works for you and gets you the distance and accuracy you want and stick with it.
Above all - Practice!Practice!Practice!

You might need to change your grip on the disc. The control grip you described is good for slower throws. You will definitely get some wobble if you use that on a big drive. This is hard to describe... but press your index finger against the rim and then stack your middle finger on top of the index finger. This will give you the strength of two fingers pressing against the rim, which will allow for greater snap and distance. It feels weird at first, but after you get used to it you will find that it is much easier to throw forehand drives that way. Still use your current grip for approaches and escape shots though.

I know the grip you described. I used it for drives until I got out in the field today. I found that with it, though more power is present, discs were much more likely to "get away from me." It sounds like I just need to practice and get comfortable with it. I can see 350-400ft forehands in my near future with all this time I've been putting in.
