View Full Version : Turnover Woes

This pertains to RHFH drives. The only disc I can throw without the occasional turnover is my Champ Boss. My more understable stuff like my Roadrunner and Beat Valk always turn over on me. It seems the most common cause of the unwanted turn over is too much power for certain disc. However, I have a problem with thinking that I have enough power to turn over anything but a boss(which only goes 300-325) after 3 months of driving forehand. Will rolling your wrist over (palm to the ground) on the follow through cause this? What about not enough spin? I really want/need to learn how to throw a straight forehand. Plinking through the woods is getting old fast.
Sorry I've posted like fifty-eleven topics in the last week. You all have been so helpful!

when you throw try to tilt your wrist down to the ground slightly. this has helped limit thr turnover on my forearm throws.

Thanks. I've been reading some articles and it sounds like I am throwing with plenty of arm speed, but inadequate spin. This is causing the disc to go understable and turn over. My boss can handle the arm speed so I think that is why it is working for me versus other discs. I need to get my hands on an xcal for this reason. I'll get out tomorrow and try to confirm my suspicions.

I would guess that you are getting plenty of spin on your discs. It is usually the sping that will cause a disc to turnover. I had to stop throwing my understable discs forehand because I could get that much spin on them. It is all in the snap which is easier to do forehand than backhand. So in general I have to throw something overstable on my forehands and right now I use a TeeRex. I would like to get a Champ XCal and a Champ Starfire, just not in the budget right now.

Let be first to say that the Roadrunner and a beat Valk will always turn over if you are a decent player. I use my Roadrunner for long turnover shots

from what I've seen, most players throwing forehand use too much arm and not enough wrist snap. Too much arm motion will cause you to roll your wrist downward at the release, pulling the disc over- often confused with "turning a disc over". Really stable discs will mask that technique. If your only getting 325 from a Boss, I suspect this may be your problem. One way to tell is if the disc flutters at the first part of its flight, its not getting a clean release.
Try keeping the disc close to your body and focusing on the wrist snap without exaggerating the arm motion. Experiment with different release angles also. with a hyzer-flip, you should be able to get good distance out of your RR and Valk.

Like "sidewindin' says, experiment with different release angles: this is key. Lay that outside edge down & then throw. It will snap over to flat & not turn over quite as much. Gets you a bunch of distance. Think of a driving angle out to your right (slightly) & it will come back over to the left as it's flipping. If it has enough room to work it will get some extra D this way as it works through the spin.

This can def. cause a disc to flip. It's called off axis torque (OAT), there's been lots of discussion about it in other threads, mostly pertaining to RHBH but the same principals apply.
