It's the end of the world as we know it...
might as well come play some disc golf!

Come one, come all to the 2012 SoCal DGCR meet up!
Unfortunately, the planning on this year's meet didn't go as planned and for that I apologize. But with a little love and an open mind, everyone will have a blast.
Tshirts and discs will not be available at the meet but orders will be taken for both. Once the meet is over everything will be printed and will be mailed out at my expense. I apologize for this also.

Schedule of events:

Thursday 5/3
Set up camp, meet & greet, and disc golf action!

Friday 5/4
Doubles Tourney
-3pm
-Random flip dubz. No pressure, just fun.
-Prizes will be awarded to the winning team!

Saturday 5/5
Two Round Tourney:
-Round One 12pm
-Round Two 3pm
-No fee for this, just a positive attitude. Prizes will be awarded for lowest scores!
-Start time is tentative depending on length of round one and lunch break.

Sunday 5/6
If you're still there on Sunday, and can manage it, get one last round in before hitting the road!


If you haven't reserved a camping spot, or made arrangements to camp on one already reserved, don't fret. I'm sure we'll have room for everyone.

Again, I sincerely apologize to everyone for dropping the ball on this. I know everyone was excited, as I was, but instead of focusing on the negative, let's just all do what we can to make this event rad! :hfive:

I've already spoken to the Casitas people and they assured me that Mallard will already be open by the planned dates.

Well, as you can imagine, DGCR meet-ups often end up being about having fun as they are about disc golf. And you also know that the "fun" often involves the drinking of alcoholic beverages. :)

So on the last night, everyone was pretty toasted, especially Apothecary. In fact Apoth was so buzzed that he hit the tent way before anyone else.

In my drunken state of mind, I decided that it would be funny if we did a CTP on Apoth's tent. Everyone got together and threw and it was hilarious. A few noises from inside the tent but nothing more than that. So, I decided that we throw again.....

This time was different. Apparently Apoth had a glass lantern right inside the door of his tent. One of the discs thrown happened to hit right where the lantern was and of course busted that thing into a hundred pieces. Glass and fuel was everywhere. Huge mess all over his sleeping bag. :sick:

Needless to say Apoth was not amused and everyone ran for their lives. And the only person to go over to his tent to check on the damage was the drunkest member of our clan, Zenbot.

A few angry words were exchanged but in the end all was well. In fact, about a week later mentally_understable replaced the broken lantern.

What could have been high drama just turned out to be something we'll joke about for years to come! :p

(Truth be told, Apoth was still pissed the next day and for a few days after that. I guess I would have been pissed too. But was cool and everyone left with a smile on their face.)

Your contributions last year really helped make the meet as special as it was. Everyone was super stoked, and we were all surprised to say the least by your generosity.
Skulboy will again be doing the artwork. He's already begun work on a couple of designs.
One of the next steps will be to decide which company we'll go with as far as custom stamped discs are concerned.
I plan on using Paragon for the player's packs.
I'll be looking for suggestions, desires, needs, wants, etc from everyone who is planning to come.

48-52 are the largest sites. If you're coming with several cars I would recommend those. We've fit a full sized bus on one of those sites and still have plenty of room.

1-12 are smaller sites. 2 cars at the very maximum.

After speaking with the Casitas people and getting recommendations from Zenbot, it looks like sites 48 thru 52 are going to be our best bet.
These sites are the biggest and cost as much as the smaller sites.

Prices:

2 nights $67.50
3 nights $97.50

Each site is allowed three cars. The first car is free and the other two are $17 per night. Looks like carpooling is going to be essential.

We've been working on our road trip plans hardcore the past couple of days. I will have a couple peeps with me this time and I can't wait to hit the road. We're heading up to Chi-town first and planning on taking Route 66 most of the way to Cali.

Have any idea which discs you are going to get from Legacy. I love that you are going with them. I bought both the Cannon and the Rampage, although they do just hang on the wall, and want to get the Clutch soon. I love their plastic.

Just called Lake Casitas and they informed me that they have a Brewer's Festival that weekend and that everything is going quickly.

Right now they only sites available in M are 1-4 and 23 and 39. Anyone that hasn't got a site should do so asap or risk not getting a campsite in M and possibly not at all, she said sites are going fast.

Roadtrip, what all was in the OH meet Player's pack and how much did you charge?

I'm probably going to go with Legacy... I figured it made sense... SoCal Meet & SoCal company!
(Plus I think I'm gonna be able to get a good deal!)

I ended up charging just the cost of the pack, plus I added in all the shipping costs to each pack, ended up being a $4 or so a pack. Mine were $29.50 and included:

1 Star Leopard
1 DX Roc
1 Dri-fit Tshirt
1 Microfiber towel
1 Custom Bag Tag

The Shirt, towel, and tag all came in the Paragon package and those were $12.00 per pack and the discs from Innova were $9 for the Leopards and $4.50 for the Rocs. Everything turned out great, Paragon is an easy company to work with and the shirts and bag tags came out great.

I think it's a great idea to go with Legacy, I love their stuff I have bought so far. I don't really throw them, but the plastic is nice, durable, and has a great feel. My suggestion would be to definitely include the Clutch or their new putter coming out if available so that players of every skill level can use them, not too many rec player's out there really need to be throwing the Rampage or Cannon, but they are still awesome discs, mine are signed and hanging on the wall.

I'm super excited too man, I can't wait to throw with you again. The next best site, maybe even the better one is definitely 57, hope you end up getting that, or at least 59. Our site will be party central for sure there is going to be at least 5, maybe 7 us, my crew plus sillybizz, woot. So excited.

Brian you should try to grab a site at O as quickly as possible if you don't already have one either there or at M. I guess there is a Brewer's Fest or something that weekend so the sites are filling very fast.

May 3rd-6th, camping in O since M filled up early. We are going for sites 57-64, Snappy has 57 and I have 58. There will be custom discs, artwork done by Skullboy again, and Snappy is going with Legacy discs. So far I think that's all that's been discussed.

Anyone know of a decent, fairly inexpensive hotel in the LA area? One of the last things we have to find and book is somewhere to stay a couple of days before the meet.

Also we plan on hitting up at least Oak Grove and Sylmar while we are in town, probably on May 1st or 2nd if anyone is available and wants to throw a round.

We're also looking for other cool **** to do while we're around town, any suggestions?

Well, ive been holding off on making any plans to attend this event due to another event happening the same weekend as this..turns out i will be up in Mammoth with the Fam, so im gonna miss this event this year, im pissed but i would like to get a players pack when they become available...i look forward to seeing the pics.

We're still planning on coming out, pretty sure there will be four of us, myself, wood pecker, our friend and her bf. We actually leave in 27 days, April 25th. So far our plans includes stops in Amarillo, a night at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ, a day at the Grand Canyon including camping, hitting Vegas, and then on to LA. We'll be camping one night in Angeles NF and a couple days in LA at a hotel, if we ever find one, then camping at Point Mugu State Park before heading up to Casitas.

We all are so ****ing excited for this trip, I can't wait. Hopefully there will still be a good turnout, either way it's going to a great time.

Anyone heard from Snappy recently, just wondering. I'm sitting here nailing down some final details for our road trip. 23.5 days until we hit the road for wonderful Socal. I think we are still going to try to hit up some courses in the LA Basin while a couple of days before the meet. Going to try to hit Glen Helen on our way in from Vegas, and definitely playing Sylmar and Oak Grove if anyone is around while we're there. A couple of the people coming with me are noobs, but we'll still be having fun.
