So I keep hearing that working with comets or meteors for that matter... will help work some OAT out of your technique.
My one and only question is, what's the best plastic/weight to do this with?
Lastly, what's a good grip to use while doing this?

Everyone says that Elite-X and ESP are the best plastic for working on form. Z is a bit too stable.

I agree it is good for working on OAT. It's also good for handing to a newbie you might be playing with.

I recently bought an X one and find it pretty understable. Similar to a new DX Stingray. I have to hyzer flip it at anything near full power (and throw it nice and high.) If I had it to do over again I would have bought it in Z like my buzz and wasp.

ESP is the best in every way hands down

This is the OAT they are talking about. Learn to throw it without hyzer flipping it and the OAT will be gone.

An Elite-X should be perfectly stable up to a little over 300' with a very slight fade, especially when it's new. I would recommend a lighter 170s Elite-X over ESPs (the current run anyways) if you're wanting pure form diagnosis.

The current run ESPs are a little more "overstable" than I expected them to be and are great for the course, but I don't think they'll be as good for form diagnosis until they've seen a fair amount of action.

Let's see, I got a nice collection of Comets going, one x, three Z's, and three ESP's. Honestly, I think they all fly pretty darn close to each other. Obviously the X is beating in to be a little more understable than the rest.

If you only want one I'd say get a Z or if you want to pay more for an ESP, go that route. If you like the Comets, I am thinking you should get a heavier one in Z or ESP that'll stay nice and neutral/stable, and get a same weight, or slightly lighter one in X that'll make a nice understable complement.

If you are a big buzz fan, a Meteor may be your cup of tea for stable/neutral to understable mid.

I have an elite x 165 and that is crazy flippy. I mainly use the elite z but for working on form get an elite x 165

I have a elite-x 165 that I throw 250-280 straight line, I also have a Esp comet 181 that I actually consider flippy.

When I had Comets in the bag I absolutely LOVED my ESP's. Once seasoned up a bit they were money. I got way too paranoid about losing them since they were OOP and ended up switching to the Fuse.

With that being said, I will NEVER get rid of my pair of ESP Comets.

If I were to try a Fuse, which plastic would you recommend? How is the Fuse in comparison to the Comet? Which weight/plastic too?

the new runs of ESP comets are pretty good. i prefer it to the Z comet i threw for awhile

They r all good ESP Z X. I find the Z the most inconsistent stability wise though

How is the Fuse in comparison to the Comet?

it is faster and understable. the comet is slow and neutral. comets beat into nice turnover discs but take a long time to get 'flippy'. fuses start off understable, even in the premium plastic.

I want us to distinguish between on course and diagnostic tool.

The best diagnostic Comet is an 160-170g X Comet.

The ESP Comet is really more for on course use and maintaining its stability over time. Starting out a decent ESP Comet will be almost as stable as the Zs. They will beat in to be just like the old TP Comets and are wonderful then. They will later turn into a version more akin to the X Comet. The Z Comet is going to be way more stable, hide OAT a good bit, and will not beat into anything less stable than a slightly used ESP.

If you wanted to try one, I'd suggest a heavy Opto. That plastic would be the closest to Comets as the Goldline's are a little more understable. The Fuse has a TON of glide like the Comet, but is a bit more understable outta the box. I keep a heavy Opto in the bag for straight shots with more power, and the lighter goldline for turnovers and straight shots with less power.
