View Full Version : These Travel Tags are Fun

I have now done Three swaps of the travel tags. One at a local course to me and two in Michigan. All three swaps were with really fun people, and I got to play courses that were really fun. DGTourist came to Colorado and we had a lot of fun playing Johnny and Red Rocks CC. He love Red Rocks which was a lot of fun. Friday I swapped in Michigan with GivinMeTheCreeps. We met up with some guys who showed us Tobaggan course in Kensington. The other guys had to wait for me to catch up a lot, but I was good at finding their discs in the woods. It was a hard course, but I wouldn't have got to play it, if it wasn't for the tag swap. On Saturday, I swapped with Greg Layton, he and I played Hudson Mills Original (after he drove all the way from Grand Rapids) and we had a great time. His wife accompanied us and played a few holes. Plus she took some pictures that she says shows some discs in the air. I am very anxious to see these. We had a great time except for a lost disc in the swamp. But all in all, this tag swapping is a pretty cool deal. I hope some of you come out to Colorado and swap some more with me.
Thanks all you guys for making the effort to swap, and thanks DGCR for this cool feature.

I would "come on down" but that's not so easy with two little ones.

Okay, Pretend I'm ignorant (my wife knows the truth and the truth shall set you free) and explain to me what this is and how it works. I have looked through the threads and posts and do not see an explanation (at 1:48am seeing could be an issue).
From what I gather I purchase this tag and when I go somewhere I swap with another person who has one. Then the swap info is passed along to timg and we keep repeating this process. Is this correct?

Yep but the most important part is you play a round (or three) of disc golf, talk about the courses in each persons area, and have someone to play with when you are out of town. Also, you are playing with some else who writes down the score because they have to enter it into their score cards on DGCR. Which is something else you will have in common with the other person. Also, if you throw your favorite ROC in the swamp, there is someone who has read all the DGCR forums about ROCs and can empathize with you!

I will be traveling to Springfield during the first weekend of July. I plan to check out a course in Montana and perhaps WY. So, if anyone wants to switch your travel tags with me, I would love to do so... My travel tag is #24...
Just got my #50 in the mail today AND I'm heading to the Milwaukee area for the weekend.
Anybody there want to meet up for a swap?
Send me a PM if you do.

Just got travel tag #56 today. My buddy is coming up tonight to plan a weekend trip (july 9th-12). We are looking at a couple different places. Michigan is a possibility and if he can get another day or two off we may venture out as far as Colorado. Wherever we decide to go I will be looking to swap tags along the way.

I will be traveling from Rochester, NY directly to Springfield next Tuesday. I doubt that I will able to stop by any of the courses along the way.
Any tag holders living around Springfield, IL?? If so, let's meet up and swap!

So got my travel tag a few days ago, slapped it on the bag the other day, went out golfing yesterday and it fell off somewhere. I had that sucker tied on tight too, I sure hope that the personalized tags have a better fastening device than these things.
Guess we'll see if that travel tag ever shows back up somewhere. It was #56.

How could it fall off unless you actually broken the rubber attachment somehow (which would take a lot of force). I'd recommend getting a small carabiner for the personal tag if you want to make sure it's super secure. I haven't had any problems with the chain that I send out (my tag has never fallen off in 4+ months) but the carabiner would be more secure. I just can't afford to send one out with each tag.

I lost my DGCR tags a few weeks ago from the chain. It just somehow came open. Luckily it had only been a couple of holes and I found them. I just wanted to add that those chains are not the end all. I went back and added a key ring and a carabiner for good measure.

Yeah Maybe I caught it on something and it snapped, but I think I would have noticed. Its no biggie. I will order another this week when I get paid and hopefully tie it a little tighter and pay more attention. I didn't even notice it was missing until this morning. I went back up to hoover and played and looked around, but they had been cleaning up for the tourney and what not, if someone did come across it, they probably just thought it was trash and threw it away. I have one more hope. I played at griggs yesterday too, and was up in the trees looking around for my plastic, it might have fallen off back there. I'm going to head down there in the morning and get a round in and take a look. I'm just hoping if someone does find it they know what it is and put it to use, like I said I'll just grab another, and be a little more careful this time.

And I will definitely grab a carabiner for the personalized tag, thanks for the advice.

When you say you tied it on.. how did you do that? You can't really tie it that I know of. You loop it around the tag and then you unhook your bag strap and put the strap through the big loop. Super secure and it would be pretty difficult to break.

07-05-2009, 05:49 PM
I put it through the hole, looped it through itself and then put it on the strap, but it was hanging a little loose, so I just wrapped it around itself and tied a knot. the funny thing is that I tied it tighter because I didn't want it to get caught on something.

I'm sure it was more my fault than anything, I'm pretty hard on my stuff. Next time I will just pay more attention.

Sweet that tag came from Wyoming and went all the way down to Oklahoma where it met my main man Donavan!
Didn't you think that Donavan was like 2x more hilarous in person?

I was hoping to score the #1 travel tag from Blang last weekend at the Meeks Madness tournament but we didn't end up on the same card either round. Do you actually have to play around together to swap tags?
Do you actually have to play around together to swap tags?
I'm gonna go ahead and say no. I feel like these don't work like traditional tags where you play to take the lowest one.
Since we're all so far apart, I think its more about meeting people from other places, swapping tags regardless of higher/lower number and seeing just how many places each number can go.
If anyone disagrees let me know, but as far as I'm concerned it would be no fun to meet someone with a tag halfway across the country, play a round, and end up walking away with the same tag.
Save that for you local bag tag rounds.

It is just about the meeting and the swap. Nothing was ever said about beating the other person. I think playing with the other person is assumed but not a competition.

Same here.
I just swapped with Mystjava's tag #24 (from Washington) when we met at the Deaf Nationals in Springfield, IL. We didn't even play at the same cards but we did played at the same courses though.
We swapped at the end of the 4th rounds and discussed our opinions about both courses that we have played on. Took photos of the swap and ourselves as well.
Now Mystjava has the tag from the East coast and I have hers from the West coast! That's the farthest tag that I have so far!
My next goal is to swap it with someone from New England when I visit there next month.

I enjoy the reviews that DeafDiscGolfer (tag #10) shared with me about the two courses. Now I need to find one that I can switch with out here in Seattle Area or down in PDX area (Portland/Vancouver) since I will be doing down there next weekend. Fun! Fun!
Oh, thank goodness for DGCR! I had used it several times on my road trip back home to check out the different courses along the way. The one "wahh!" that I had was about not being able to see the map clearly on my blackberry! I couldn't finish playing at Froniter Park in Hays KS! Oh well!!!
