Since I am playing in 3 climate zones(semi-arid steppe/high desert, pine barrens, coastal temperate Jungle) I get to see how courses are shaped by climate and how some use that well and others less so. For example, Roughs in Seattle are often disc eating tangles while in Spokane are just pokey. A hole with the same # of trees looks way different when rough is turned up to 11.

What are some examples of where this has been done well or poorly? What do you look for in a well designed course in different areas?

Your fortunate to have different climates/terrains to play on within a couple hrs drive. Most of us out east just deal with the terrain changes of DG. The temps usually stay the same...

I know some of the guys here travel alot, am curious to hear what they have to say.

As a local example, Cherry Hill in ID looks like it had some fairly tough holes in the pine barrens, but recent clearing turned them into fairly average chip shots.

AWOL @ Farragut St Park in ID did a good job of using the variety of trees and meadows to shape some tough shots that don't look like anything else in that area.
