Road Trip KC I-35 to Duluth

Planning a road trip that starts in KC and runs north on I-35 all the way to the Great Lakes. The starting point will be Water Works in KC, ending point will be Highbridge Hills, WI (Highbridge Gold, etc). Are there any other courses along I-35 that are must play? Anything in or around Kansas City, MO to Des Moines, IA to Minneapolis, MI?

If only Minneapolis were in Michigan... that'd be sweet.

Anyway, the argument could be made that you could spend your whole trip in Iowa. See this thread for recomendations there:

RE: KC, Waterworks is the best, but I've also heard good things about the two Rosedale courses.

Rosedale is a great course. Played it and Waterworks last weekend.

if u havent played swope park, that is also a great one down here in kc. alot of people call it the smaller sister course of water works. very good elevation changes and challenges all types of throws

Stop in Lamoni, IA, just north of the Iowa-Missouri line and play the two courses there. I've never played them but have heard great things.

Further north, jump off I-35 at State Hwy 92 and go east to Indianola and play Pickard Park. Arguably, Iowa's toughest.

Take Hwy 69 into Des Moines. Ewing Park is less than a mile off the highway.

Catch up with I-235 downtown and go north to Guthrie Ave. Go east, and you'll end up at Grandview Park.

Get back on I-235 and continue north. You'll eventually run into I-35 and could continue north towards Minnesota. But you might want to detour west on I-80 a bit. Go west to the Merle Hay Rd exit and go north to Beaver Drive and continue NW past Camp Dodge. Hang a right at the radar ball and you'll find Walnut Ridge Recreation Area.

Continue north on Beaver Driver until you hit State Hwy 415. Cross Saylorville Lake to Polk City. From there take the road to Big Creek State Park.

Continue NW on that road until you get to State Hwy 17 head a couple miles north to Madrid. There's an okay 12 holer here in town.

Continue north on Highway 17 to US-30, go a few miles west to Boone, IA and hit McHose Park.

Reconnect with I-35 and continue north. North of Ames, I'm kind of in a fog. That should be more than enough to keep you busy though.

Awesome, thank you very much. We've modified the trip to only go north as far as Des Moines and then loop back west through Nebraska. However I am still wanting to make this trip for next year and will save this info for it.

The Des Moines courses aren't all in there, but the thread here about DSM is really good.

If you're willing to play two rounds each morning and afternoon you could do DSM in a day (Pickard/Ewing then WR/Grandview or Big Creek) but that would be the bare minimum to get the absolute "must play" courses.

Minneapolis/St. Paul has a buttload of courses. It's one of, if not the highest concentration of courses in the world. Kaposia, Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area, Blue Ribbon Pines, C.P Adams, Oakwood and North Valley are all really good. Acorn, Plymouth Creek (if nothing else for hole 8), Bryant Lake and Basset Creek are great courses, too. I'm sure there are a few in the area that I'm missing as well.
