When and what course did you have your first disc golf ace?
How long from the time you first started playing the game till your first ace?
How many since then?
By the way, still waiting on mine!!

5 months into my serious playing career. Hole 2, dogleg left, Richmond Hill, Asheville, NC. Threw a star wraith, skipped off the ground, banked off a tree, went into the basket. Havent had one since.

I had my first ace about 4 or 5 years after starting to play DG. It was on the Blue Course at Codorus (Hanover, PA). Hole 12 downhill. Short, maybe 250-300 feet. Because of the downhill throw, the disc would sail and sail, mine s-curved and right at the last second CHING! Right into the chains. Sadly, I haven't had a true ace since, just a lot of close calls.

1st one came about a year in on #11 at Lafleur's Bluff. Had many object aces years before when I played at USM in college but that was my 1st on a basket course after picking up the sport again with baskets and newer type discs. I started playing with a real frissbee-165G.

I've had three aces.
First was at Horizon Park in Winston-Salem, NC after about two years of playiing. 1989 or so.
Second was at Cornwallis Road in Durham, NC two or three years later.
My third was last year at Sunset Park in Rocky Mount, NC. The thing about this ace is the course was brand new at the time and the holes were reconfigured a couple months later. The hole I aced doesn't exist anymore.

Had been playing a while (4+ years) before the first one came. S-flight on hole #7 at Lake Lowndes in Columbus, MS. Great day, stunk up the rest of the round.
Ace number two: red wasp stung my throwing hand on the hole before. 300 ft ace on number 10 at Tombigbee St. Park in Tupelo, MS.
Ace number three: number 6 at Tombigbee with a local pro. Great shot straight in, he was excited for me. Checked his website to find he has aced it 20+ times. Crazy.
Ace number four: My home course, I designed most of the course, especially this hole and I was the first person to have an ace on it. #5, The Dragon's Back, at Panther Prowl DGC in Amory, MS.
Since number four I have 3 novice tees aces. I aced hole #6 in Amory at night with my right hand on a skip and then a few months later with my left hand at night(right hand was broken). How many folks can say they've aced the same hole from the same tee with both hands. Also aced number 9 from the novice tee with my left hand during the broken hand phase.
Last ace was a warm-up shot just prior to a tourney, wasted ace.

I have been playing for a little over a year now. But, I play in the land of ten thousand lakes, so the season is shortened dramatically because of the cold. So in the 10 months of discing, I have not recorded an Ace yet. But, I have hit chains 4 times. Now I just have to get lucky.

Got my First Ace on New Years Eve (12/31/06) on #4 (310 ft) at Shillito Park in Lexington KY with a Star Wraith.
It took me over two years to get my first Ace after many bounce offs and chain-outs, but I got 4 more in the 3 months after that.
Over the past 6 months I've added 3 more - Two of them on Shillito #14 throwing a High Thumber with the same disc. One was in our local League and the other in the 2008 Lexington Open (A-Tier), so this Banshee earned me about $210 dollars on two shots.
Also had a skip ace off the Ice at Boone Wood (Cincinnati) during their Ice Bowl this year. Craziest conditions I've ever played a tourney in. They had about 3 inches of snow with a half inch ice layer over it that caused discs to really act weird.
Total of 8 in the past 18 months after 2+ years of 0. Still none backhand.

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally got my first legit ace today!!!!!!!!!! Took me a little over 4 years
I used my "171 Discraft Buzzz-D" and it was Hole #3 at Civic Center Park in Auburn Hills, Michigan!!
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/gallery.php?id=345&mode=gal#
Ok so maybe the hole was only 105 ft., but it was still off of the tee pad and it was a down hill shot
Best part is that me and some friends made an ace pool before we played the round, so I got the ace and the paper!!!!

First ace came yesterday, but on an object course. It will be my first ace until I get one in a basket then that one will become my first ace.
This one came at Gilbert Lake State Park in Laurens, NY on hole 9. A 200' hole with the pin protected by a group of trees about 3/4s down the fairway. A RHBH annie with a 177g wolf broke right too early but pinballed off one of the trees and clipped the pin. I guess its better to be lucky then good sometimes.

It was on Elliott Park, a short, super-wooded 9 in Elkhart, Indiana. Hole #4 was short but a complete maze of trees, and somehow my old Roc found a little hyzer path and just nailed it. That was about 4 years into my more serious career (and 9 after I started), and I only have one other since then -- a wide-open 180-footer in South Dakota. I've retired the Roc.

I'll probably never get an ace. I used to always run it on shorter <200' holes but after giving up hudreds of birdies I learned to layup short and right on those holes. When your old like me you have to take the birdies when you can get them.

Made my first ace today!
Hole #10 (old #6) at Bryant Lake Park in Eden Prairie, MN. It's a 300 ft downhill hole with some trees before the green. Used my 169g Wizard and thought I overshot the green at first (you can't see the basket from the teebox). Then my friend says "did you hear that, you hit chains!" so we both go running up and there's my Wizard sitting in the basket!
I've been playing a little over 1 year so it feels awesome to have my first ace already.

I got my first ace on hole 3 at Lenora Park in Ga after playing for about 3 years. The basket is over a hill and completely blind so when we heard the chains we went sprinting over the hill and when we got there it was sitting in the basket. I was so relieved because I had hit chains on that hole a few months earlier but it had deflected away.
In the three years since then I have hit 7 other aces. Most have been on holes around 250ft in length. But I have one that is around 300ft and one that was about 360ft.
My favorite ace so far was a skip ace that I shanked to the right of the fairway. It flew through a stand of trees amazingly missing all of them and then hit the ground and skipped roughly 30 ft forward and 20 ft to the left straight into the basket.
My second favorite ace happened earlier this year when I had hurt my right arm and was forced to learn how to play left handed for 3 months. In just my third game playing lefty I aced hole 1 at Lenora Park. Needless to say my friends weren't exactly happy seeing that only one of them even has an ace. I don't think I will ever let them live that one down.

Still waiting after about 3 years. I've had a few hit the top of the basket off of a skip and I drilled the post underneath once as well. My knack seems to be hitting really weird approach shots. I don't know why but I've hit about 8 or 9 different weird shots. Maybe some day that first will come.

I don't know the exact date because it was back in the early 80's but my first ace was Hole 11 at Winton Woods in Cincinnati. I aced it with a big trash can lid frisbee because that's what we played with back then. It's only a 90 foot hole but when you're a 13 or 14 year old kid it definitely counts.

I hear stuff like this about aces alot. I makes me wonder how many aces are really not very good shots that just get lucky. I mean doyou really want you disc coming in chain high from 300' out? Most of the time you won't hit chain and will have a long duece putt.

Exactly my thought. I have decided that the best aces are big hyzers or skip aces because both of them would have stopped close enough for fairly easy birdies. While the straight as an arrow laser type of ace would blow by and leave a 50 to 100 foot putt most of the time.

I found a guys Ace Disc yesterday. Kinda curious because the date of the ace was over 2 years old and the disc was still in play. I returned it to the disc shop across the street where they have a returned disc bin. The owner of the shop will email the discs owner.
I've been playing 3 months and am aceless (one really close that hit and hung in the chains, fell and balanced on the rim of the basket...time stopped as I stood on the tee pad...then restarted as the disc tipped out. aw man...still exciting to replay in my head. Yesterday I hit 2 poles Chunk! Drop in deuces.
I'm 50 and am with Sidewinder (Post #24).
I play for the Birdie and shoot to land it within 15' on the easiest putting side of the basket.

Many aces can be considered as a bit lucky. If you are firing aggressively at the pin every time you will probably go way past some times. I saw someone make an ACe where his shot would have been at least 100 ft away if it didn't go in the basket.

Brilliant brilliant. These are my thoughts exactly.
The times I have hit chains I KNOW that if it would have missed it would be another 100ft away. An ace is killer, but give me consistency and parking a floater within 10ft of the hole every time.

Great to read about so much chain raping! Yeah, the short ones count too! My shortest one was my prettiest. 170' hole 4 @ Honey Bear in Peru with a medium wizard that was on the chains as soon as I released it. I didn't get my first until a year into serious playing, #6 East Swinney w/ monster, but I've managed to rack up 13 with some out of state. My first was a blind rhfh shot that just thunked in the basket (no chains necessary), I didn't even know until I walked up on it. Luckily, I had a 24oz Heineken w/ me and celebrated immediately.

My first (and only) Ace in 12 years of playing was about 3 years ago, Sharp Springs, Smyrna, TN- hole #9. It is a sweet hole over a large sink hole full of water where the basket is set in among a rock formation on the other side.
I am a high school teacher and I encourage my students to play DG as well. Well that day 4 of them were at the park and joined me. I pulled out a JLS 1.6, threw a dart over the water and the rock wall and in it went. The kids went bananas (so did I). They thought I was so awesome!
A couple days later I got to the same hole and pulled out the same disc, nailed a tree, and into the drink it went. I searched for it for hours over a span of 2 days, but never did find it. I now know that many people have the others present sign the disc and it gets retired to a trophy wall, but I was of the mindset of "it went it last time, why not try it again!!!" Oh well, makes for a good story I guess. :)

I've only been playing for almost 2 years...and though I've had three aces, I would would much rather be consistent. Yes an ace is one of the best feelings in the world(comparable to sex), but I've only scored an even round on a 12 hole course once. Most of my rounds I am over par by a lot, so I consider myself lucky to have made even one ace. I'm not complaining but those who haven't had there moment yet, I'm sure it's coming. Disc on my friends and may the disc luck be with you....

Ace number one finally happened for me today, and with plenty of witnesses. I throw forehand always off the tee, but last night decided to start working on my backhand, something magical happened and all of a sudden I could accurately backhand drive somehow. today I take my newfound skill and decided practicing would be good playing rounds throwing almost entirely backhand. Sure enough my last round of the day right before I have to leave for work I get a perfect dead center no questions about it ace on a 241' hole. Ive got a fever, and it feels like I should definetely be able to repeat the shot. I thought I was addicted to disc golf before, now this is just gonna be ridiculous

Might as well make this my first post on these boards.
My first ace was in the late 80's on hole 1 at Acorn Park in Roseville Mn. Back then it ran parallel to the hockey ring and was only like 150'. The disc was a Stealth I think. I just know a few years later when I had moved on to a XS for my main driver I gave it away to some guy I saw playing with catch discs.
I went 7 years without an ace at one point. Now they aren't as rare.

I was by myself, but luckly there was a couple of people putting out on one of the next holes that saw it and was able to sign my disc. Scence then I have had 3 more aces 1 on hole 17 @ the Redwood Curtain, 1 @ a course I designed in Hayfork, and 1 on Horse Mountain, all in 08'. I've still yet to get one in 09, I allmost did the other day, but close only counts in horseshoes, handgrenades, and government work.

congrats man! and at 240' thats a non-debatable ace ;)
Yeah, I was hoping that my first ace would be on a longer hole, not like a 120 foot hole or something. The uphill factor makes it seem longer too;)

I just got my first ace today. I've been playing for about 9 months. It was hole one at Memorial Hills DGC in Huntington, IN.
I threw a Pro Valkyrie RHBH uphill, anhyzer around the trees. 240 feet. I was so stoked. My friend had just showed up so I was glad he was there to witness it.
OLE!

First ace was on Feb. 28 at Horning Hideout #2 course on hole #17. 180 ft strait across a feild to a basket on the side of the hill. been playing serious for about 9 months now but have been playing object style for many years.
Hippy007
My first and only was a 268' slight anhyzer shot. We had a new player with us and I was explaining how to throw anhyzer so it would end up at the basket. Then I put it in. I WISH that I'd had the composure to slowly turn back to him and say "Just like that," but instead there was a borderline girly scream and lot's of high fives.

Thanks for the laugh. I enjoyed that. I would do the same thing. My daughter and my wife are still making fun of me,because I made a great drive on a hard anny hole, and it hit a tree and went in the woods and I yelled a very loud "Son of a bitch!". They won't let me live that down.

Just nailed my first ace today! Calvert Hole 9 Blue Tee 237' with my FLX Surge 174g. I had a good feeling as soon as it left my hand and watched it drop in. Been playing since last May. I never thought my first ace would be a backhand. Up till a few weeks ago I drove every hole forehand. Funny that the exact time was 4:20pm.

I witnessed an ace yesterday. I was playing some local doubles action, and the casual player in front of us dropped in a big hyzer drive smack into the chains. He and his girlfriend were excited, and we all clapped for him. It was fun to see. Maybe someday I'll get to do that. :)

Since I started in '82 I have hit about 40 aces. I can't remember the first one, but I just got the first one on my new course here in Brady, Tx. This is the story I sent out: The date was 3-6-09'. The location Richards Park. The wind was from the south, gusting to 25 at times. The suspect was an old man pretending to be a former disc golf star. He had spent the previous 7 hours behind the wheel of Dodge Ram. The suspect was next seen at Richards Park Disc Golf Course. Two acomplisses, Kenny and April, were witnesses. After some putting practice on hole 12, the suspect, identified as Scarylarry, drew his accomplisses over to a nearby tree and suggested some practice throws. Scarylarry drew back his disc and threw a left to right floater. 270 feet away the basket awaited. The disc stayed in the basket until the suspect removed it. More accomplisses arrived and the group embarked on a 3 on 2 match. Playing a shortened course due to the impending darkness, Kenny and Scarylarry finally tied the match at -4 and went to hole 17 in near darkness. Having the all important box, Scarylarry threw first. The hole is wide open straight at the basket, but he threw a hyzer over the soccer field into the darkness. There was a moment, after it disappeared, of silence, then that beatiful sound of chains hitting pole and the ring of an ace. The suspect does not know what else to say except he hopes you get to have days like this too.

First ace (on a basket) was about 5-6 years after I started playing. Got it on hole 18 Alpharetta, Ga during a weekly scramble. It was probably a 200' or so shot, a little hyzer that went right in. That was back in 1988, don't know if the course is the same or what! I was playing with another newish player in my group, Brad Hammock. Immediately felt like every shot I threw after that would go right in the basket. (didn't work that way)

So far I have had three and they were all within the first two years of playing. My first was hole 7 in Laporte Colorado. blind dogleg to the left. I didn't get to see the ace but I did hear the chains and to my suprise it was in the basket. My second was on the CSU campus when they had the course in the middle of campus. straight laser right into the chains. the third was at Eudora on the short hole on the front nine. for the past seven years I have been trying to get another one.

#1 was at hole 10 at Evergreen (Santa Barbara) on 5 July 2003. Threw my CE Leopard on a hyzer line and as it went along, I waited for the time when I'd say to myself, "Nah, too short" or "Nah, too far" but I never said it and the next thing I knew, it spanked chains! What a rush!
#2 came a few years later in Oklahoma City (hole #4 at Dolese) - a short blind shot with the basket up on a mound. Heard the CHING and then a bunch of guys walking to the next tee started yelling, "It went it!"
No #3 yet ...

Happened just last Friday at Lakeview Park in Sarasota, FL. It was hole #8, about 260' over a canal with the hole a bit to the left. I threw my favorite Wasp and it started tracking beautifully. My buddy said, "that could go in." No sooner had he uttered the words when the sweet sound of the chains rang out and we started screaming like little school girls.

My first ace was yesterday! Playing Jordan Creek in Whitehall, PA with a friend. Hole #7 which plays over a pond. We weren't sure if we wanted to play it due to fear of losing a disc. I'm thankful we did! Flicked a wraith right over and it looked like it had a shot. Then I hear a thunk and I think "Oh, it hit the side of the basket, I'll just set it in for a two." Then, the guys taking a smoke break at the #8 tee start yelling at me. I just thought that they thought it was a good drive, but after a little yelling back & forth, they said it was an ace. I really didn't believe it and was shocked. Sure enough, it was in the basket when I walked around the pond. The guys nearby said it basically just sat down into the basket, no chains!

I am a causal player and have been playing for a couple of years. Today a the local course playing a round, I came up to a short hole, only 150 feet but has a tight tunnel through the trees. I threw my first shot, a little to the left. I decided to throw another shot from the teepad and the slight hyzer shot went directly into the basket! My first ace! However, it was my second throw from the teepad, not my first. Does that count as an ace run and if so, how does that impact the value of my ace? Do you see it differently then if it was my first shot? I was just out for a casual day of discing, not keeping score. Either way, I finally got that first ace out of the way! Ready for more!

Well it sort of counts, but it was a temp hole with a temp basket setup for a CTP at the end of a tourney, this past Saturday, but I did make the shot and I would guess it was about 140'. Not really sure how far it was though.
There were about 90 witnesses (including at least 3 members of dgcoursereview) and I was the only one to throw it in. The beauty of it I was the second person to throw, I launched my 179 DX Rhyno with a little anhyzer (not much at all, just enough to keep that putter floating) and it started out at the basket went a little bit right and then dove hard left at the end of the flight right into the basket.
You vote . . . Does it count?
Maybe I should set up a poll.

In my opinion there should be a place to register aces, rather than putting it all over the signs posts etc, just register your aces. In fact I am gonna work with a web developer to figure it out. You could sort by distance, course, date, whatever, I think it would get used by the regular players, but I think the recreational players will still write on signs baskets poles etc. Maybe each tee sign should have a board to post rather than all over the signs and baskets etc.
If the courses we play have a contact they could be in charge of posting all of the aces each year to a list.

We all sign the disc that was witnessed aced (every1 that we are playin' with) for the guy that holed it.
What I usually want on my aced disc is:1) Signatures of all the witnesses 2) Date and Time 3) Course, Hole, and Distance.
As far as signing the basket, never heard of that. It seems to me that it is akin to vandalism. Signing the basket wouldn't be permanent also. Wouldn't it get crowded with names too (if they stayed on)?
The trouble with Ace discs, do you throw 'em again or not?
I retired my 1st Aced DXBeast right away, then lost its replacement. Brought it back out for a few rounds, then replaced it with 2 more CandyBeasts (gave 1 to my brother and 1 for me). Now I am down to stealing my brothers disc I got him. I am ready to just use the Ace cuz I will NEVER leave without that disc. Or I will grow old lookin'

I got my first ace at Buffumville Lake in Mass on Hole 18 (near position @ 290'?) 10 months after I started playing (Started 6/2006). Then I got one at 17 White to White at Borderland in Mass (265') 4 months later followed by #9 at Sabbatus' Owl course in Maine. That's practically a tiki course and was certainly less than 200' but it still went in. Nothing since then and I'm ok with it.
Little said bugs me more in this game than when people say they haven't got "their" ace yet as though its owed to them. Easy for me to say after getting a string of them early on but if you feel like aces are the most fun thing you can attain in disc golf then you're going to get bored quick.

1st ace was at Emerald Park, Mesa AZ hole #3 257' uphill (Dec. 13, 2005) with LHBH
It took me 19 years*
1 more since, Twila Reid Park, Anaheim CA Gorilla Course #10 170' (about 1.5 months ago) with RHBH
I have been clanking basket and top of the hole for a month on a lot of holes. I feel I am due soon for another!!!! Righty and Lefty
* Funny story about this is that the morning of the day I got the ace, I called my Uncle Pete to ask him, "If you play golf your whole life, do you think you should be able to get a hole in 1 sooner or later?" I was all around the basket for 3 months and never hit it so I was getting discouraged. He tells me, "I beleive more people DON'T get aces than those that do, regardless of time played." So, releived, I decide that maybe I won't get 1. Sure enough, that same day, I get it

Kind of strange. Yesterday, I was playing the same course which I hit my lone ace at, and almost hit the same basket again. I'd estimate I was long by about 2 feet. Only difference was that the basket was in the long placement this time.
Not all that exceptional, except that the course in question is three hours away in another state, and I maybe see it once per year.

exactly.
I got my first ace on #12 DeLaveaga "A" position (short left). Downhill shot with a large pine protecting the basket. Threw it flat and aimed left of the basket 25-30 ft., the disc flew flat and straight, then started the left turn dive, it found a window in the pine and slammed into the basket. I had probably played that position 30 times, came close once or twice.
So glad I was playing with a good buddy to witness. I yelled as loud as I could when I saw it stayed in.
Since then, I have had discs deflect off of baskets, chains, etc. but not in.
Now, I concentrate on getting the disc to a location around the basket where it has a chance to get in. I never "root" for an ace, I figure I will enjoy the moment after I see that the disc has come to rest in the basket. It's too heartbreaking to see it come close but not stay in and like some have said, thinking about it while you are in the box is probably not helpful. At some point, it's all up to the disc golf gods.

When and what course did you have your first disc golf ace?

First and only one: 5/30/2009 @ Cedar Brook Elementary School (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/../course.php?id=1086): #1 - 147'
18 months from the first time I threw real disc golf discs at a basket.
For a while now my girlfriend has been saying we've been playing long enough that we should have an Ace by now. So this past weekend I decide that we should go "Cubby (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=304)" and we head out to the shortest course in town. Kinda funny since I sorta predicted that I could get my first Ace there in this post (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2504&postcount=4). The course is easy enough that I'm gonna play it with just my 169 Pro Rhyno for everything. We do the high-five, "good round" thing and I step up to the first tee and toss the Rhyno out on a slight hyzer line and it sails perfectly into the basket. One throw, mission accomplished! :D
We played three rounds and had some more close calls, but no other aces that day. Jessica's best throw was on #3 where she bounced one off the top of the basket:

My one and only ace happened on what was hole #6 at McDade on April 18 2009 with a Innova Star TeeBird 171g. It was approximatley 4 years after I had actually started playing disc golf. First of all I never tee off thinking I'm going to ace a hole. I basically picked a line I thought would get me closest to the basket. When I let it go I thought it was a little too high. But the angle was dead on and when it hit the chains it was a great, great feeling. Im lucky I had a buddy there to confirm it and I think he was more excited about it then I was. What I recommend everyone do, is don't try, it will happen, put the disc where it needs to be and eventually you'll have that loving feeling of an ace.

I got close to getting an Ace yesterday at Miramar Park in Sea Brook, TX. I was on #5, which is a 250ft straight shot. I sent my disc slightly right , and it drifted back left, and came down at a hard angle, and missed the basket by inches. I didn't realize how close I had gotten till I walked up and saw the disc sitting 3 feet from the basket. So close yet so far away.

More close calls than I can count. I've hit the pole, side of the basket, top of the basket, even skipped one off the top, I just can't seem to hit the chains. My buddy aced #4 at Bayville this past Wed, and when we played on Fri my disc hit the bottom of the pole on the same hole. It kind of irks me, as his ace came first in our group, when my "birdie" shots are always drop ins and his are always 30'ers. I am usually closer to the pin than anyone else in my group on those close shots, I just don't have that extra bit of luck.

First Ace was on #1 at Steed Park in Richlands, NC in late April of 2009.
First throw of the day to a slightly uphill, wide open 159' basket with a 172g ESP Discraft Impact.
A thing of beauty.
Been playing for a little less than a year now.
None since then, but I actually threw one in from 165' two weeks ago on my second throw at #17 at Castle Hayne, NC.

I've been playing for a little over a year now. I was confident that my main disc golf friend and I would get our first aces this year and that it was just a matter of who was first. Well... it was me. :D
6/2/09: Hole #1 at Sunrise Park, Bartlett, IL. 230ft slight downhill and wide open with my tie-dye Z Buzzz. Have you ever had an ace that was all basket no chain? This ace was soundless. I thought at first it was an optical illusion and the disc hit the grass behind the basket (it has happened before :p ). It took a few moments to sink it without that auditory confirmation but very cool nonetheless. I bounced my Champ Leopard off the top ring of the same hole on some practice drives before our first round of golf that day too.

My first ace happened in 2007, about 9 years after I first learned how to play, but only about 4 years since I'd been really passionate about it and actually started striving to improve my game.
I was playing the short tees with my wife at Silver Creek Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=321), and on Hole #10 I pulled out my pink Champion Orc and skipped an ace right in. I think my wife was more excited than I was; she screamed and high-fived me and yelled "Oh my god, babe!" while I just stood there wondering why I didn't feel more elated. I guess part of it was that I just FELT that it was an ace the second it left my hand--there was a brief flash of my brain telling me, "That's gonna hit right there, catch a nice skip, and slam into the chains" without me consciously thinking about it. It was about a year before I aced another hole, which I guess I can't really count since it wasn't during a round, but it was still a shot off the tee and into the basket, and it was on my home course LTC (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1498) on one of the tougher short holes (#13), and then a week after that I stepped up to the same tee at Silver Creek, again with my wife, looked at her and said, "I'm gonna ace this again," to which she told me, "Shut up." This time I used the Champion Wraith I aced #13 LTC with the week prior, and executed the exact same shot. I gave my wife a little smartass smirk, and she slapped me.
About a week ago, I got my 4th on #10 at Vollrath (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=800), a hole I always had a feeling I'd ace someday. On that one, I didn't even think I was on the right line and cursed what I thought was a terrible shot, my buddy said, "Nice shot," and then I saw it stall out and crash hard left straight into the chains.
It's weird how it took me so long to get that first one, and now I've got 4 in the last 20 months.

Almost got one today. I was shooting at #5 at TC Jester Park in Houston. The shot tee is only 230ft, and I threw a LS Polaris, and missed the basket by inches. I saw it going right towards the basket, and my heart skipped a beat. Almost, but it got away.

Just got my first one yesterday, at Tim Osmond Sports Complex (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2672) on hole 12. It was a nice little blind hyzer shot, about 235'. Had been playing about 2 and a half years when I got my first ace. It was hole 8 at Blendon Woods Metro Park in Columbus, Oh. Its a short, (165ft, i believe) straight shot. Hole 12 Lake Stevens, WA. About 260 feet ~ I threw a 165 DX Valkyrie RHBH ~ the flight was perfect as the disc faded slighty at the end and slammed into the basket.

My only ace came on my first time to Jokerst Park. On the first tee I threw a blind hyzer over a hill and around a tree line. A gust of wind caught the disc and I figured that I was going to be way long. If the basket hadn't been in the way I surely would have been.
As I've often said, I'd rather be lucky than good.

My first, and only ace, a Star Wraith, came last year at Yellow Creek Park, #9; wide open 300'.
I've friends who swear they witnessed another at Lincoln Ridge Memorial but I've no recollection.
Over the years I've hit innurmerable baskets and chains without sticking the ace, which made the ace at long last, rather anticlimactic.

took me 2 or 3 months for my first one...note i did play EVERY single day, 2 or 3 rounds...i was hooked!! i now have 3 aces in a little less than a year total(months put together, played for 4 months, quit for 9-10 and started back up)
First: Lewisville Lake Park, Hole #16 i think its about 180'? It was a skip ace, i was playing doubles with 3 of my friends. My partner and I had a 1 stroke lead when we came to the hole, ended up winning by 4...after the ace it was all over:).....to lay the story down, before every throw my friend would say "word of the day is ace!!"...well before my throw i told him the word of the day is Tee-Rex and held my disc up...i then threw it and CHA-CHING....we all went nuts lol
Second Ace: Bear Creek Hole #1, about 260' maybe? first in the air ace....2 witnesses
Third Ace: Bear Creek Hole#4, not sure how far but its short and wide open....the worst ace ever...one because it is the easiest hole on the course, and two because i hit this ace while playing by myself, THREE i was trying to relieve some stress, so i went to play golf, and i was relieving stress from getting laid off a couple hours earlier in the day..lol

6/14/09, Cass-Benton Hole #15, 215ft.
Sounds more impressive than it is... Hole was meant to be an Ace. Baskets about 50 ft lower than the tee. Just glide your putter down hill. I'm sure this hole gets Aced often.
That being said, I was totally stoked watching it glide towards the basket, realizing it had a sweet line, then... CHING!
Good Times!:D

Kind of a cool story too....
Met up with an out-of-towner (Clark, if yer readin' this, had a fun round!) who had never played my home course today. We were coming off of the basket from 12 to 13's tee, and he asked if I had ever had one. Told him had never been close, but the next hole was do-able. Not 45 seconds later, I was hearin chains and slappin high-fives!!!

Over 15 years until my buddy got his first one this weekend. Hole #14 at Vallarta-Ast in Madison, WI. It's a blind dog-right about 240 ft. from the am pad. Through a 175 gram Monarch RHBH with a normal Hyzer through the trees on the right side of the fairway. Had to go pretty deep in, but we heard the noise, and he just stopped and looked at me in disbelief. That was a cool moment.
I still have not had one in my 15 years however...

When and what course did you have your first disc golf ace?
How long from the time you first started playing the game till your first ace?
How many since then?
First and only one: 5/30/2009 @ Cedar Brook Elementary School (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/../course.php?id=1086): #1 - 147'
18 months from the first time I threw real disc golf discs at a basket.
Ace #2: 10/24/2009 @ MacGregor Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/../course.php?id=646): #6 - 260'.
PDGA C-Tier sanctioned tournament. First throw of the second round.
Elite-Z Comet right up the middle.
$345 Ace Pot. :D
Played some of my worst disc golf of the year this past weekend, but that one throw made up for it all.
Maybe now my buddy Omega cuts me some slack on the first ace? BTW, where/when'd you hit yours?
btw this is going to be my last post until i hit an ace , told myself i wouldnt hit 1000 posts until i hit an ace as i feel stupid being an ace member with no ace. Still going to add some reviews until then, PEACE OUT:)

So... I've been way excited for the past few days because I nabbed my first "ace."
But... a buddy of mine told me it wasn't one... so, after a half hour of trying to find the rule, I come here...
I threw a thumber, 251 foot hole, at the end of the flight, it came soaring down, hit the top of the basket, bounced about 4 feet in the air, and then came to rest on top of the basket. Ace or no ace?
(Even if it isn't an ace, it goes down in the books as the coolest shot I've ever done)

i got my first ace this past sunday, 11/15/09.
hole 13 @ jefferson barracks (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/gallery.php?id=48&mode=gal&view=hole&hole=13&page=1#), 'A' pin placement- 290 feet.
the hole has changed recently with the removal of some trees on the left center of the fairway, opening up a big, sweeping, LHBH hyzer route for me. i was playing solo, through a foursome of young guys who had progressed to the center of the fairway, and were waiting as i teed. the basket isn't visible from the tee, but as my starfire flew along its majestic parabola, i knew it was a good shot- probably buried under the basket. i turned around to grab my bag and hustle up the fairway for my birdie, and keep the groups moving through the course quickly, when i heard chains and the foursome i was playing through erupted. i about snapped my neck turning around to see the excitement, and they were hopping up and down and whooping it up.
ACE!!!
1 down, many more to go?

you actually would get a three on that hole. You have to basically throw your disc down then throw back in for par. If discs land on top it becomes a stroke penalty.

My first and only ace came in late August of this year.
It was at Benton Beach #4 in Rice, MN. 210' shot that has you throw through a few trees near the tee to a open basket if you make it past the trees. Not that hard of a shot but I had only started playing in April of this year, so I was very happy with it. It was with my Cobra. I knew it was a good shot when I let it fly and it cleared the trees. I thought it might be just under the basket, but it hit the chains and fell right in. Was a good moment. Especially since I had 4 witnesses with me at the time.
I've come close a few times since, but haven't got another yet.

because the disc needs to be on the ground to be able to be thrown again. You would have to take it down then throw. which results in you having to use another stroke to get it down. may not be a considered a 'penalty' but that is the rule.

I believe you're talking about the 2 meter rule, in which case the top of the basket is NOT above that mark. You would mark the disc directly below and incur NO penalty.

Still no aces for me. Half a dozen into the chains but nothing has stuck.
The funniest was a hole about 270...threw my ESP FLX buzz on a sweet S-curve around some trees. It hit dead center into the chains, fell and hit the top of the bucket, teetered a moment, fell out and then did a victory lap around the pole before it came to a stop under the basket.

My first ace came after about 3 years of playing. (I'd had several hit the pin or chains and slip out.) It came on hole one of my home course - a completely open, flat 250 foot fairway. My second ace came a few weeks later on a 160 foot, heavily wooded hole. In both cases - as well as with most of my near misses - I had just started playing that day and so was rested and relaxed with a smooth release.
The second ace was better than the first because I had realized I was throwing the wrong disc on a Tuesday and thought "If I threw a Leopard, I would ace this hole." I visualized it, came back on a Thursday, got out of my car, walked straight to hole four, pulled out the Champion rainbow leopard, held it as I had imagined, visualized the flight path into the basket, stepped onto the pad, and threw the ace. Then I got back in my car and left. It was perfect.

because the disc needs to be on the ground to be able to be thrown again. You would have to take it down then throw. which results in you having to use another stroke to get it down. may not be a considered a 'penalty' but that is the rule.
@ tlandegent: sorry, not an Ace.
@ dirtydmix: Mark the lie with a Mini (per PDGA Rule 803.03 (http://www.pdga.com/rules/80303-marking-the-lie)) and then hole out carding a '2'.

...so if a disc is 3ft up in a tree, its under 2meters so no penalty right?
dont you drop the disc from the tree to the ground and throw from there with no stroke?

What if it lands in a big tree, more than 2 meters up, but you are able to stand on the tree branch and throw?

Correct.

You mark the lie directly under the disc and play from that marked lie.

The 2M penalty rule is now optional at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

Thanks everyone for helping with talking about the 2 meter rule and my first "ace."
Admit it though, all of you are jealous of my sweet shot that bounced off the top of the basket and then landed back on the top of the basket. Comon, admit it.
If new viewers don't know what I'm talking about, look at p. 18 for my question on my "ace."

Hit my first ace today at Johnny Roberts Memorial in Arvada, CO. Hole 10. 174'. Got it with the first disc I ever threw. A 25cent 175g whamo putter I bought at a garage sale. I've been playing about a month but I play 2-3 times a week. The closest group to me was two holes away so no one else saw it. It was sweet. Got to watch it slightly anhyzer right in.

I got my Ace on basket #2 at Aant'iyeik Park in Juneau Alaska, my home course. I threw a Quest Double D, RHBH, it went way higher than I had planned and thought it was gonna be a total bomb, and it was, a Basket Bomb!!! It didnt even rattle the chains, just dropped in the basket and stayed. That was on the 13th of September, I have been playing for a couple years but that is the only Ace that Ive gotten so far.

First ace last week on Hole #8 at Sunset Park in Lewiston, ID. Shortest hole on the course at 180 ft., so it wasn't THAT exciting, but still cool nonetheless.
Been playing about 5 years, and I expect it will be another 5 until I get my next one.

I had been playing for years, and putting a ton of pressure on myself to get one. I left my favorite yellow 167g elite z buzzz on a course and got a call three weeks later from the locals disc golf shop saying they had my buzzz. Two weeks later on may 29 2009 on #8 at circle c, magic finally happenned. I was so relieved. I don't think my feet touched the ground on the way to the basket. I had 5 witnesses to sign my disc. I will never forget my first, hopefully it's not the last!

I've been playing around 5 years and don't have one. :(
Don't worry I witnessed my friend get his FIRST ace after 7 years of playing! Witnessed another friend get his second and I'm pretty sure this is his first year. Also saw another guy who I joined up(didn't know him) right at hole 1 and did 18 holes with him, he aced hole 16. Witness to 3 aces already with in the first 3 and a half or so months of playing.

First and only one: 5/30/2009 @ Cedar Brook Elementary School (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/../course.php?id=1086): #1 - 147'
18 months from the first time I threw real disc golf discs at a basket.Ace #2: 10/24/2009 @ MacGregor Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/../course.php?id=646): #6 - 260'.
PDGA C-Tier sanctioned tournament. First throw of the second round.
Elite-Z Comet right up the middle.
$345 Ace Pot. :D
Played some of my worst disc golf of the year this past weekend, but that one throw made up for it all.
Ace #3 was an object ace.
1/30/2010 @ Jack Brooks Park - Cedar Hills (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/../course.php?id=3281): #17 - 321'.
Casual round with the guys who were in town from Illinois. We got to hole #17 only to find that the basket had been stolen, so one of the Illinois guys said to play object golf to the closest landmark which was the trash can (321') by picnic table: threw green 172 ESP Surge big hyzer over tree and nailed the trash can for first object golf ace.
Ace #4: 3/7/2010 @ Missouri City Community Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/../course.php?id=938): #17 - 323'.
Hole #17 is on the alternate tee layout from the white bricks, plays to basket #7. Threw a 174 Champ Monarch anny line at the leftmost tree, it sneaked through the edge of the branches and rode the wind all the way to the chains.

^^^ Great Ace there ERicJ! A 323' ace gots to feel awesome! I think as the length of the hole gets longer, the value of the ace increases somewhat. That's not a Cubby ace for sure.

First Ace was at Twin Parks on their Parkshire course on 12-4-2009. Hole #18 306 ft with 175g Star Boss that I had bought that day, all chains. I had been playing disc golf for about 10 months. I just got my second ace the other night 3-4-2010 at Zilker Park on Hole #8 (side with cement pads) ~360 feet with the same Star Boss, about 20 witnesses for that one and it was all chains. Been playing now for about 13 months.

1/23/10 - Acorn Park in Roseville, MN - Fairway Freezer Tournament
RHBH and used a 172g Elite X Stratus.

How long from the time you first started playing the game till your first ace?
Nine years. I was a very casual rec player until the fall of 2009. This was also my first tournament so it was a great combination (first tourney + first ace).
How many since then?
None, but like many others a few bounce outs.

My last ace was a few months ago at Buckhorn #8. Thank god it hit the basket because if it didn't it would have been in the lake. I threw it way too hard.
Nice job. I have hit that cage about 5 times. I have also donated about 5 discs to the lake behind it. And on top of all that I have taken some serious bark off those trees. I keep thinking that will be the hole I ace, but not yet. I am shooting for hole #11. Then I can pump my chest and brag. But I can barley reach it right now so an ace is a real long shot. Oh well, I can dream.

My first ace came on hole number 15 of the old tunnel course at Kensington in Michigan. It happened in the first year that I was playing, 1998, and I had one witness. I threw a stratus and it began to turn right just as I thought I was going to nail the tree that stands ten feet left and back from the basket. As chance would have it our group of friends had deemed that hole as the "six pack hole". Any aces were to receive a six pack from all witnesses. My buddy had a hard time getting that six pack too, seeing as how we were 16:D

I got what you might call a Cubbie Ace last week. I can't remember what day it was, but I was playing at my home course in Cobb County, GA. The 18th hole is a nice short, technical hole. It's only about 200', with tall trees left, right, and center, and a creek running down the right side of the middle of the fairway the whole way. Winter flooding has caused erosion to the point that the basket itself is only about 2' from a steep 3' bank down into the water. Most players I know tee off on this hole with putters, but I like to tomahawk a fairway driver. I was just out for a recreational round by myself, so I decided to try a couple of new lines on the fairway to see if I could put it a little closer to the basket without putting it in the water. I kind of liked the line I threw on my first hole, so I made a little adjustment with my second disc and tomahawked it into the basket. I had witnesses on an adjacent hole, and they were impressed, but I had to admit it was my second throw. I'll keep throwing that line, and keep hoping for the "real thing." Until then, it's nice to have had the excitement. :)

Finally after three years of playing, hitting metal numerous times, the elusive first ace happened for my yesterday. I was playing a course in Colorado and on the 18th tee, the magic happened. I threw a Star TL pretty much straight on and it headed for the basket, looked good and then went right in! It didn't slam the chains like I thought it would, but almost like a putt, nice and easy. It was a par three, 322 foot hole. I jumped around and yelled like a little kid. It was awesome!

188 is nothing to be ashamed of, I got a 189' ace at the GCC doubles round before the tournament on their temp island hole with a little drone flick. Fun Fact- I played that hole 3 times and shot a total of 9 strokes, averaging par. First time an ace, not counted towards the tournament in doubles. 2nd round a drop in birdie ace run. 3rd time when I was leading by 2 strokes with 10 holes to play in the tourney I went OB twice and carded a 6.
