transfer tape?

A roll of 8" transfer tape is around 30$ and will dye hundreds of discs.

no. a sign shop locally is your best bet, or just order some online. a roll of mask will probably last you years. and dye tons of plastic.

So far I've had no issues using masking tape that has been pressed to my shirt a few times.

And yes those videos rock, they have to be the best how to videos on disc dying that exist.

Cool, so does it matter what brand of transfer or application tape or is cheapest fine to work with?

There are a million options here for application tape at signwarehouse.com and I'm a bit overwhelmed.

I know this a old thread but it seemed a good place to ask. Is there a big difference between medium and lite tack? I've used masking tape and even after sticking it to other cloth it still holds a bit to much. Also is there one brand better than another?

I use this stuff and have had good result. You really need to make sure the disc is super clean and dry before applying a stencil no matter what application you're using.

No problem with stencil, it's getting masking tape off vynal. Wondering if a low or medium tack transfer tape would work better.

Masking tape is meant to hold. Transfer tape is meant to hold less than the tackiness of the vinyl. Even if you use a shirt you may still have stickier spots that hold more than you want them to.

Since I started dyeing, I've used Frogtape Green masking tape. It's got just the right tackiness and it's 1 1/2 inches wide, which I like. I find it easier to keep track of the small pieces (making sure they're staying down) when I'm only watching a narrow strip rather than a whole sheet, if that makes any sense.

Thanks for the replies. I think I may try the frog tape and order some some low tack trans tape.
