Been seriously considering investing in a DGA Mach Lite portable target (http://www.discgolfassoc.com/discgolf-equipment/baskets/practice-baskets.html#machlite-discgolfbasket)

From everything I have read on the web, seems the best fold-up basket out there. Curious if anybody has owned/used one of these and what their impressions are.

Also - anyone use one of the lower-cost all-metal baskets? A friend bought one, but it was kinda flimsy and it rusted out pretty quickly. Welds broke and it just didn't have the right feel to it. I think it was one of those InStep models. Anybody use one from one of the ones made by manufacturers of the regualtion baskets?

I really like my Mach Lite. It sets up very quickly, and does not take up much room in my trunk. I keep mine in my car all the time and any time disc golf comes up in a conversation and I get the usual response "Disc Golf? what is that?" I can pop open the trunk and give a nice little demo.

I've been keeping my InStep basket indoors when not in use outside. I can still practice up to 20' putts in the kitchen :) I'm happy with it and have had no problems with it to date. I did the inner chain modification described on the PDGA board:

There's also a course in my area (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2687) that a couple guys have set up on their home properties that has primarily InStep baskets. I have no problem playing on them. But then again maybe I haven't been playing long enough to be a "basket snob".

I bought one of the ones we used for a tournament in the Caribbean and I love it...I set it up in my lft and can putt up to about 40 feet...we walk down to a couple of different parks and practice also...it's well worth the price...

Hmm, sounds like I am going to have to get one of these now. Been geeking out on practicing my putting (new throw technique) and lately my home course is swamped, and no practice basket.

Plus, should come in handy for my upcoming camping trip to Forked Run State Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1277) in August.

This sounds a bit silly to ask, but: blue or red? :)

Thinking red might be easier to spot.

BTW...my pic is of me standing by mine on the beach on CoCo Caye Island...Mike from Sun King Discs is selling all of the 18 baskets from the tournament...if he has any left, they were at a discounted rate and free shipping...

You'll have fun at Forked Run.. I really enjoyed the course there. If you run into a guy named Jereme tell him I said hello.

I have one sitting in my living room right now. It was a little "to me, from me" gift, and I'm really happy with it. I managed to snap the little plastic flag pole on the top (with a pretty weak putt), but other than that, it is solid.

To me its chains seem more forgiving than the Mach III's and V's that are found on courses. Don't know whether this is a positive or a negative, just my observation.

I've got 2 mach lites so I wanted to chime in. We use them every week for a temp course league....which is interesting cause we have most types of portables represented in the 16-hole course.

Out of all the portables, the mach lites are the most similar to normal baskets & have the best chains. They are extremely portable and fold down to a foldable chair size that stows easily in your trunk. Fast setup/takedown. The new ones have improved fabric that appears to be higher quality.

Cons are that the legs are not very sturdy -- we've been using mine in this league for probably about 25-30 weeks and the legs are about to give out on both. I've already had to repair one.

If you're going to have light/moderate use -- mach lite is the portable of choice. For heavy use I'd recommend the Innova Traveller if you can get past the square design that seems to catch too well... we're buying these over mach lites because of durability for our league.

I have an InStep basket that I have had for about 8 months now, and I really like it. I take it to the practice field at least once a week. The only think I did was spend about $20 at Lowe's and added some inner chains and it really catches great. With out the extra chains, you will get some blow throughs. Other than that, its a very tough basket. Only takes about 1 minute to set up, and breaks down in about 30 seconds. I got mine on Ebay for $60.

I have a mach lite, and love it. It's gotten a ton of use and isn't showing any signs of wear yet. I have a blue one, I'm asking for a red one for Christmas this year so I can practice back and forth, and so I can more easily make safari courses in the forest preserves. I've tried pretty much all the different types of portables and have been by far happiest with the mach lite.
