Questions about Arroyo Baskets

- Does Aluminum hold up as well as steel over time? Are they 25 year baskets?
- Are number plates available?
- Locking collars available?

I'm researching basket options for a new course in Cali...would like these questions answered.

Aluminum is very affordable, but are of the lowest quality of the metals and are simply not designed to last for a long period of time outdoors. Over time, the aluminum will oxidize and the paint will fade quite a bit. Aluminum doesn’t hold up well around salt and will corrode over time and is not recommended for coastal applications. If aluminum fixtures are powder coated, the life will be extended as the paint will seal the aluminum. Great for applications where the item will not be used for a long period of time, specially outdoors.

and on the lock-collars-- if the pole is aluminum it would take nothing to cut through. I suggest placing larger steel conduit piece around the basket pole and getting your own set of industrial lock-collars to prevent theft. If someone wants it, they can get it.

Thanks that helps answer some of my questions. The reason I've heard that Arroyo chose aluminum is that it is easier to change basket positions on the course. But what good is that if the metal doesn't last and/or is easy to cut? I'll take steel every time. Moving baskets is not hard.

Agreed and true but I only see these as nice portable baskets for now... Would not last one MN winter or through the salt of the east/west coasts and gulf.

Or worse... those that would see the scrap value in them.
