I now have a 20+ dyes under my belt but this one just boggles my mind.

I first dyed the fist black with my stars covered. I took it out and uncovered the stars, both clear and in great shape. I rinse it off and prepare the red rit dye. Everything looks great... I let it sit for around ten minutes. When I uncover the stars, the right side one has streaks of black. Kinda ghost like but way off in color compared to the left side. The left side is clean and smooth.

I have never seen this before and can't figure out why this side got messed up but the other did not? Weird to me, maybe you guys can help. I don't want it to happen again. :D

hmmmmm...

the only thing I can think right now is maybe a very small amount of black rit worked its way under the cover-up vinyl and was made more visible with the addition of red. When I've done two color I've used two different stencils.

How could I make the left star darker (like the right side) without going 100% black?

Or should I just leave it alone?

at this point, with the vinyl off I'd just leave it alone.

If you had the vinyl still protecting the rest of the disc you could "paint" some black dye on.
I experimented with this using black rit dye heated to temp and using a normal artist brush
to apply the dye.

The sad part is, we spend hours dyeing discs and when they don't come out perfect.... it makes me sick.

Oh I understand the feeling. The last one I did took me so long to draw, cut, and weed that when it came time to stick it to the disc I had to step outside to rid the nerves ... and then came 15 minutes of obsessive searching for air bubbles on cuts. I didn't feel better until the vinyl came off.

We just need to buy a disc maker from innova and start from scratch. Make everything 100% from scratch... Oh the possibilities!

I wouldn't beat yourself up over this one though. Its still a real sharp looking design. It was for you right, not somebody else? I like to think of flaws like this as wabi-sabi. Its the imperfections and impermanence of something that makes it beautiful.

Yep for me... It is a first run Pro Line Spider, kinda rare. Just need to be more careful!!!!

I got a very visible bleed on an Elite Z X2 I dyed. Was pretty pissed at myself for doing that on an OOP disc and the only other X2s I've seen left around are Elite X.
