View Full Version : How do you store discs that are not in your bag?

I've accumulated quite a few spare discs and have been trying to figure out a good way to store the ones I don't keep in my bag. I've been keeping them in a duffle bag in my trunk and noticed that some were warped due to the heat and the fact they were just thrown into the bag.
One day I noticed that I had some spare PVC fittings laying around and this is what I came up with. It holds about 15 disc. I have been carrying it in my trunk for two weeks and it has not fallen over or spilled any discs. Gravity just holds them in place. It's a great way to take 15 drivers to the practice field and my 4 year old carries it fully loaded with no spills.
I wouldn't want to carry it for a round but it is a great way to store your spares.

I ride a motorcycle. Discs are always in the saddlebags. Did notice that they were getting too warm in the pipes side, so moved them over.
Regarding heat, I have a pink cobra (she's mah baby) that I've worn in pretty well, and she tends to get taco'd in the trees. Let her sit flat in the Georgia sun and she is as good as new after about 20 minutes.
Like the rack, great storage idea.
I just bought a couple of 20 quart containers from walmart (this weekend actually). It's a perfect fit for the discs.

i like the PVC carry rack, might have to make myself one of those, looks like it could also be implemented into a preexisting disc golf bag for a nice rigid frame. any particular dimensions you used or was it just trial and error.

Sometimes if my putter consistantly skips the basket or falls out of the chains I make it sleep in the toilet. Strange area to "store" a disc??? Not really.
Sometimes even good putters need to learn their place. Phsycologically I cant handle the idea all the misses were really my fault.
Please dont think I'm stupid. I heard about this on the golf channel from professional players. So it must be normal behavior. Right? Then again I don't have a million dollars to back up my behavior.

What brand did you get that's a perfect fit?
It's a brand called "Sterilite". I'll try to take a picture of it when I get a chance.

I just put together 3 fabric-coverd, metal wired, bins inside a duffle bag and it made a great carrier for like 60+ discs. I will try to get a picture for you also. The duffle with wheels at Wal-mart was $20, and the bins were $7 each at Target. The discs are perfectly snug. And the bag is great to take to the practice field with. Pictures tomorrow if I can.

I use several Rubbermaid SnapTopper 18qt boxes (http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd100216). They stack nicely and aren't too heavy to move around. They're also mostly clear which allows for rather easy identification of what's inside. IIRC I got mine at Target on sale for $5 each, (regularly $6-7 each).
Everything I read on the topic says that discs should be stored vertically and ideally rotated every once in a while.

P.S. Donovan that's a nice bag you've got there. I'd love to see someone walking a course playing with that bag! ;)

OMG, you are messing withme right? This was for disc storage and for hauling all my discs out to the field to practice with. I would never play with it! The wheels are fine except like some luggage makers, the wheel base is a little too close and it will roll on you if you are not hanging on to it well. So far I have not had any trouble with it. It is just a cheep way for storage.
I just can't imagine someone need 80 discs to play a round. Marv Vega, that really cracked me up.

:D Yeah, just trying to be funny. It's way over the top but I could actually see someone wheeling one of those around the course, full of discs they'll probably never use. Another year or so and someone will make a motorized version complete with oversized all-terrain tires.

I found a round duffel bag on clearance at Wal-Mart last year -- $5.
It will hold around 25-30 discs.
Currently, I keep all of my spare and old discs in it.
I just grab it and throw it in the truck along with my main bag when I go to a tournament.
Then if I need to swap in a specialty disc based on the course, I have it.

My extra putters are in a milk crate. All other discs, throwable, are in a plastic storage box. There's a handful on display on a shelf in the living room.

oh and I guess a couple milk crates.. they don't spray glue real well.
containers somewhat like that but instead of pool noodles I have thick layers of large bubble bubble wrap

I have to agree that shipping is the one bitch I have about trading...
I cut them with scissors (I buy the ones with the 1" hole in the center)
I belive they're 56 quarts each.

So just to score one in the plus column for having kids and loving disc golf, here is my recent discovery of a perfectly sized loose disc holder. This "baby" holds 23 mids/drivers and 15 putters at the present time. Better yet, you get one of these bad boys free with the purchase of a set of diapers.
That light blue disc at the end is a comet, which is about the largest size it will hold at the end. Since that's my largest disc it works well. This was the perfect score for a dad who does zero DIY, though you all inspire me in this forum with the creativity.

Unfortunately, I've bought a few discs (eBay) that had the edge of the disc turned down from being stored vertically for extended periods of time. The whole disc rim is fine except the one spot where the disc weight was concentrated on, sag. Here in Arizona, it is hot, for three or four months, we keep the house temp up to 85 when we are not at home. I think if you store discs vertically on one point, instead of relieving them with foam (cool idea on the pool noodle) that they will get bent on the rim, especially the really fast discs.
I like the idea of the first pvc disc holder/transporter.
I stack my discs flat on a flat surface. Two or three disc stack of the same mold. I move them around at least once per month, usually I lose one and grab from the stack or I will give a disc away that is relatively new so they don't really get stored for very long.
Not a collector but like certain old discs...
I need a good storage solution.
Thinking about making a rack made of masonite shelves, one disc per shelf stack twenty high or something. Not that efficient for the collector but for the 60 disc guy like me, 15 or so in one bag, 6 or so in the glo bag, that seems doable for good storage.
I think flat storage is best.

I've discovered that medium Priority Mail boxes fit discs perfectly and the Coors Light cooler bags that they used to give out with cases of beer hold discs really well too. However, most of my discs are scattered throughout the house at the moment due to a recent move and cleaning of storage. Rediscovered lots of old favorites and stuff we didn't even know we had.

Then the two I got at ace race this year are in that bag from ace race this year, which i am using as storage right now. After I fill that up im thinking of laying them on shelves.
