I went out and played a couple rounds today. Scored a 52 the first round and shot a 51 on the second. Naturally, the 51 is the lower score, but I would like to ask for opinions on which round was the better round.
On the first round, I had two birdies and no bogies. I track my scores and this is my fourth "no bogie" round on this course out of 80 this year.
The second round, I had five birdies and two bogies. One of the bogies was a bone-headed 12-13 foot putt that I banged off the top ring. This stupid putt was offset though by a lovely fairway ace of about 120 feet on a hole I rarely birdie.
Which of these rounds would you think was the best?

I would be inclined to say the bogey free round since, in my opnion, playing consistent good golf will usually get you a lower score. Although I have to say the second round sounds like it was more fun.

I'd say the round with 5 birdies & 2 bogies... specially if 1 of the bogies was a careless mistake & you know you could've made it.

I would say your first round.
I think it was better because you walked into it cold and played really well. You had nothing extra, motivating you to take unusual risks and you had not seen the baskets or had the weather figured out yet that day.
The second round was, "I gotta beat my first round" kind of motivation. You probably forced some shots that had you not played the first round, you may not have. You were comfortable with how the baskets looked up close, since you had been there once and you had the weather figured out already.
I would say your first round was much tougher due to the reasons above and you still scored well and consistent. That was the best round in my opinion.

Yeah, definitly the second. You know you could have had an even better round with a better putt you probably make about 98 percent of the time. And the fairway aces are always fun

better score= better round. second.
Yep. Bottom line: lower scores win tournaments.
Plus five birdies vs. two. Birdies are harder to get than bogies. Bogies will lessen over time with practice and experience.

You might personally like one round over the other but anybody else looking at the numbers will see the lower socre as "better".

"You" being "Sonny", might personally like one round over the other but anybody else looking purely at the numbers will see the lower score as "better". A pretty round doesn't win over an ugly one with a better score.

I still think his 1st round was the best because it took lots more brain to do that, than the scores will tell.
