View Full Version : Sign Location?

I would like some opinions on preferred tee sing locations at each tee. Do you like them in front on either side or as you approach the tee? Where is the best place to put them? The contractor is coming out to finish the installation of the course tomorrow or friday so I need to mark out the location of the sign posts tonight. Thanks for the help, its been awhile.

I wouldn't place them anywhere toward the back of the tee pad. This may inhibit a run-up that isn't straight down the pad. If the tee signs are over 3ft high, You don't want to place them too close to the front sides of the tee pad. I've seen some signs placed too close that one could hit their hand on during follow-through.
Preferably, they should be placed 4-5ft from the front side of the tee pad.
However, I would evaluate each hole before making a decision.

Does it really matter where they are placed? As long as they are not interfering with the shot... But in general, they should be at the front plane of the tee box about 4-5' off to the side?

I know that the sign placement can vary, but I just want to keep it consistant and universally acceptable

IMO, they should be at the front far enough away from the edge of the tee pad that a player throwing from the very edge would not hit the sign with their follow-through.

Also, I prefer signs that are placed perpendicular to the fairway, i.e. when you're reading/facing the sign you're also facing the fairway. I've seen a decent number of courses that mount the signs parallel to the fairway so when you read the sign you're looking perpendicular to the fairway. For courses without defined tee pads that can be confusing.

Sometimes it is nice to be standing on the tee box and be able to see the sign with the hole layout, so that advocates for front of tee box off to the side 4-5 feet. Also, I think the sign should point you in the direction you are throwing... this is usually obvious, but if you walk up to a tee box, reading the sign should leave you in the same direction you are throwing (at least I would think).

I really think each hole needs its own evaluation since different shots off the tee will be needed and different landscapes may prohibit the placement of a sign "60 inches left of the front of the tee box" on every single hole.

I see ERicJ has some of the same opinions I do... and was writing at the same time I was... so, sorry for the repeat a little.

Update on the final install of the course. The Twp. has hired a contractor to finish the remainder of the work at the course. They will be starting tomorrow. I am hoping they will either finish tomorrow or Friday. Not that much work to be done really. Hopefully By this time next week I will have the baskets in and ready for play! The signs will be a couple weeks out(maybe 2?), since I want to measure up the course one last time after the baskets are installed, but it will be playable.

I know you say you are done, but I hate that my post did not go through when my battery went out on my laptop.

SO here was my suggestion anyway.

I like them when they are off yo the side a ways but facing the tee pad and not near the front of the tee. umm like this:

front

Hmm... Little late, but I think that were the signs are going, it wont interfere with shots. The other thing is some of the tees are limited as to the available approach and how you walk up to the tee, so some of the tees would not work as you have suggested, but you wouldnt know that unless you saw the course. Thanks for the input tho, you have been very helpful thru this process, including everyone else. :)

I got out last night and located all the sleeve locations and sign locations. To my surprise, they had already started filling the tee boxes with stone !! :) It is really starting to look like a course now, I cant wait to be able to play it. I was taking pictures of all the holes, but then for some reason I had a lapse in memory and forgot two of the hole for some reason.... I will post what I have.

It appears that I forgot to take pictures of 6 and 7... But I have 1-5, 8 & 9 :) There is still some trimming that needs to be done, but for the most part it should be playable by next week.

Looks like a lot of fun. #2 and #4 look pretty cool. Which is your favorite hole?

PA_Disc

Not sure really. I like #1, but I guess #4 has the cool feature since it incorporates the water. Each one of the holes is kinda unique. You need to walk it to understand.

Thanks for the compliment! Its was alot of hard work for sure. It takes a long time clearing all the fairways by yourself after work... I cant wait to get out and play. I am going to make sure that I am the first one to play a round. That way I can set the first course record :) LOL B/C I know it wont last long. I was out again last night to check out the progress and trim up some low shubby stuff that popped up in the fairways. The contractor only got 3 1/2 holes filled in. I guess thats what you get when they are working for T&M. I am confident that it will be ready to play sometime next week.

Course should be completed this afternoon! I am hoping to get the baskets installed this weekend all od the sleeves are installed. I just talked to the sign guy and he said that there is about a 3 week wait to get the signs made... He said that if we are in a pinch, he may be able to bump us up a bit on the schedule.

Is it easy to follow without signs? Because I may come over this coming Monday! I have a general idea of how the holes look based on the pictures you put up... easy enough to find one's way hole to hole?

Yea I guess its fairly simple. I am going to try and get out to install temporary directional signs, that will help. I will post a course map here too.
