I am taking a trip up to meet my family in Rice Lake for a week but I took the whole Friday off of work for a mini-roadtrip of my own. I have already used the map function here(sweet tool) to choose courses within a few miles of my planned route. I am only going to play 4 courses on my way and am ending it at Black River Falls(because there are no reviews for it yet). The four I am playing are:
Wales Community Park (Wales, WI)- 18 (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1978)
Hiestand Park (Madison, WI) - 18 (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=645)
Baraboo, Lions DGC (Baraboo, WI) - 18 (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=686)
and finally end with
Black River Falls Middle School (BRF, WI) - 9 [and no review as of yet] (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1017)
There is only so much daylight so I am sticking wtih 4 courses. Is there a course(s) that is a MUST PLAY in Wisconsin on my way north. If so, which course should I skip in order to play it?
(keep in mind that I would like to stay close to 90-94 to Eau Claire and 53 heading north)
Thanks...Steve

Just added a course from a suggestion on the board. It's VERY close to my route so I figured WHY NOT.
81 holes in a day on 5 courses :D

I would consider skipping Wales and adding Rock River in Watertown, WI. Its a much better course. Doesn't spread out the drive and much and it is a little more out of the way, but well worth it IMO.

Nice, I will look into changing that stop as I believe it's only an additional 8 miles out of my way. Not bad at all and THANK YOU for the input.
I am excited for the day to come and now just have to hope for weather in Wisconsin to cooperate. 20 days...

Watertown is not far from a top of the line nine hole course in Waterloo, Fireman's Park. Well worth a visit. One nice water hole. Challenging course; especially if you play road o.b.

I would also recommend the waterloo firemans park that was a good course but maybe 15 minutes off the freeway. I would skip wales, or get there early early early to play or you will be surrounded by 14 year olds!!!!
Rock River is allright too.
I would certainly say vallarta ast is worth a stop.
Standing Rocks or Yulga in Stevens point, (although I am not sure where rice lak is if you are on 94 all the way or 39??

Going towards Eau Claire but I will look into Firemans Park for sure. Thanks for the heads up on Wales....I plan on being there at sun-up to start the day so I should be alright

I love road trips too. I did one earlier this summer and played Rock River in Watertown. I played just the old nine and it was pretty nice. Not to challenging, but I enjoyed it. The new nine had no markings and I go lost, and I was in a hurry so I bailed on that one. I actually might be playing Baraboo next Friday. I live in Appleton but I am going to be camping outside of Baraboo and plan on playing at least two or three rounds from Thursday to Sunday. Good luck and happy discing!

I am rethinking my choices of courses to play. I have pretty much wiped the slate clean as to where I am going to play this Friday(it's coming fast)Anything between me and Madison is pretty easy to get to.
Anyone have a MUST PLAY north of Madison relatively close to 90-94 through Eau Claire and 53 North???????????
Vallarta-Ast????
At this time I have an empty day as I plan on leaving Milwaukee at 5AM.......

Vallarta-Ast & Heistand are must plays - VA for its beauty and maintenance and H for its holes. I have not played north of Madison.

Justin Trails http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2505 in Sparta on I-90 west of Tomah might be a bit off your route, but with two private courses, it could be worth it depending on your time. Then there's the Wildapple http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2010 right off I-94 near Osseo that's Don Ticknor's private course.

Since Vallarta and Heistand are right around/in Madison I can pretty much play those anytime with an hour drive so I hoped to get some further north.
I'll look up the Trails and Windapple and see what that will add to the trip.
I might still pull in to Vallarta possibly. I'll see what the other trips further north are going to add on...........

Just looked...the Trails are a bit further that I wanted to travel off the route. I don't want to play anything too difficult or long by myself as I am pretty good at NOT hitting fairways! :-)
so far...

Tomorrow is the day. I am leaving at 5AM to get just north of Madison for my first round. Only doing three courses so I am in no real hurry. Should be a fun day.
No one has reviewed Wildapple yet????????????

Did you check to make sure Don will be home at Wildapple? (Open Sundays or by appointment call 715.797.4063. Fee=$5/day.) I think Don wanted someone else to review his course other than himself and he just made some changes. So you could be the first.

Yes, thanks, I called the other day and talked to someone at that #. Don't recall who is was. They are expecting me around 1030 or so tomorrow.
The person said that I don't need to pay but I am going to anyway.
I'll write a review on it when I get back from vacation.

Don's a good guy who's done a lot for the sport. I'm sure you'll have fun there even though he's got some funky targets.

The trip was good and I would love to do it again....
I was able to play Vallarta and it was a great course. I will have to make that trip again. Amazing...
When I hit Wildapple it was after a big storm had gone through and the first 6 holes were like walking through a swamp with TONS of bugs. I only played about 6 holes(1,2,3,10,11,12) and called it a day there. I was not prepared for it but I know that place would be a heck of a lot of fun on a normal day. Since I did not play it all I did not write a review but Don is a cool guy and I dontated a few $ to the cause.
All in all is was a fun day and had a great week of fishing as well.
