I'm closing this thread and starting a new one here. Tim wants threads that get over 5000 posts closed up, it has nothing to do with the content or anything, it's just for site performance. Pretend the new one is just a continuation of this one.

So you're saying that the amount of activity this thread received caused the site to perform inadequate? http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc243/Star_Valkyrie/coolsmiley.gif

Cedar Hill is one of my favs in Nashville TN (moderately wooded, very hilly). I'll eventually get down to Bud Hill and the Meeman Shelbys. I believe Eastern TN is more mountainous, and probably has some awesome golf, especially in the secretive private course arena.

The more I play in MO, the better it gets. The public stuff around STL is all good and I'm sure KC is the same way, and the private stuff out there is rockin(ie Ozark,Akitas and one more on the way on the McCormack property and Jumpin Joe's DGC)! I just got a line on 5 private courses around Columbia,MO that I'm excited to play eventually.

East TN actually have more open courses. There are a few wooded ones in Knoxville.

Chatt has the sinks which is all woods

Middle TN we have most of the courses that people talk about here. Cedar Hill, 7 Oaks, Sharp Springs and some very nice private courses. Most of them are wooded with a few open holes.

West TN I have only played a few. Bud Hill was a great course with both open and wooded holes.

All in all a lot of good mix at every course.

I also agree with the MO aspect. I got to play a lot there when I lived there last year. Dave McCormick's courses were awesome. I lived in Rolla with a great new course there.

I played terribly, got a mediocre partner so we didn't do all that well, had a good time though on a sweet course. We didn't have time to make it to Oshtemo so we played another round at bluegill, I'll probably rate it at least a 4, it's close to being a 4.5 for me. Marengo is a lot of fun with some challenging and interesting variety. Grey Fox is usually set up half in longs and half in shorts, that's a fun layout with some birdies and some tough shots. When it's set up in all longs it's a beast.

In honor of Honest Abe's Birthday, I believe I am going to check out a "new-to-me" course or 2 on the way out of the big city this afternoon.

While trying to find something that is kinda sorta on the way home, there are just too many quality choices. How can I possibly pick just 1 or 2 between Lombard Commons, Maryknoll, Castaldo, Four Lakes, Randall Oaks, and Village Center.  :wall:

Anyone else getting out there today?

GoodDriveBadPutt

Randall oaks is the best one, by far. Can get pretty windy though, even on 'calm' days.

Four lakes is probably out of the ground right now (just guessing).

Village center, I've been meaning to hit up. I haven't been there since they revised the layout.

Castaldo is decent, I haven't been since they cleared a bunch of trees down, still some decent holes on the back. Maryknoll and commons are pretty similar, pretty open with a few trees and hills here and there. I like commons better but that's probably some HBB.

But, as our pal 3putt would say, all those courses suck.

The only one listed that I have played is Randall oaks. Nice little 10 hole. course. Watch out for the sing that is off the left side of the fairway on hole 8. It's a thin metel sign parallel with the way your throwing. My buddy drove a X XL into it and put a one inch cut in it.

I was also going to suggest Black Bear (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3671) but I see you already have played it.

Yes, I know they all suck. That's why I am not wasting a day with good weather on any of 'em. ;)

Some day, I will mark all Chicagoland area courses off my list....even all of the crappy courses.

GDBP & Steveo, thanks for the tips! Whichever ones I do not see today will probably happen next Monday afternoon while celebrating President's Day!

Now I just need to line up a few more for Pulaski Day....:|

Yes, holes 1-8 on the front "half" of the course seemed extremely crammed in there.

At least you get a nice view of the river on the long walk. Although I was the only one playing disc golf, I had to compete with the geese on several holes. They were not happy to see me on their turf yesterday.

Randall Oaks was much nicer except for the long walk from the parking lot. The lots adjacent to the course were not open for business yesterday, so I had to park by the petting zoo and started my round on Hole #8. I'd like to go back there and check it out during some warmer weather.

I managed to throw my drive under #2's basket at Randall Oaks. Looked like it was headed for the chains until it dropped and came to rest about 20'-25' past the pin. I've thrown plenty of putts and upshots that flew under the basket, but this is the only drive I can remember where it happened like that.

mashnut

You could pair up the two in Buffalo Grove: Twin Creeks and Willow Stream. One's a really bad course with some silly short holes and the other's a slightly above average Chicago 9er with a couple nice long holes and a touch of elevation on a couple shots.

notroman
02-15-2012, 11:40 PM
Usually start it in the spring as guys start coming back home from school. If we start early in the spring, the tee time will start off at 5pm then gradually go up to 6pm as we get more daylight.

Cost is usually $5 plus $1 optional CTP and $1 optional ace. Random draw best shot doubles. We have blue and red alternate tees that we play in addition to the regular concretes. Might make more alts for this year, who knows. We're always coming up with fun alts but usually the course is so busy in the summer that you can't play the longer ones.

steveo69

notroman
02-16-2012, 12:04 AM
The league is pretty low attendance. Usually less than 20 people in the summer months. If there's less than 10 people, usually only the winners get paid. As we get over that number, the number of people paid out bumps up to top two, top three, and so on.

I know just about everyone is out at Lemon Lake, I'm thinking of heading up to Grey Fox in an hour or so for a couple rounds if anyone is interested.

I did have fun, it was a beautiful day up there today. I didn't throw all that well, short putts were my nemesis today again. I shot 3 rounds on Grey Fox, ended up +6, +2 and +5, not very good for a mixed layout. I did hit metal on a couple shots on Red though :D

TheArnoldPalmer is a CTP machine. He based hole 1 on the red course to take home the 50/50 cash CTP worth $75.

http://i.imgur.com/YMfOM.jpg

Then, after the Ace Pot for Rec goes unhit, he bases the playoff CTP for another 60 bones! (beating 40 people to do so).

To top it off, he carried my sorry, flu-ridden corpse into third place for another 40 dollars.

I hereby declare February 19th TheArnoldPalmer Day.

who took it out there from OB?

Peter R. and Dan R. took first with -10.

Derek and Tim took second with -9.

Mark (TheArnoldPalmer) and I took third with -6.

Mike N. and Luigi N. took forth with -4.

It was pretty much a clean sweep for Oak Brook Disc Golf in Rec.

You didn't respond in time. ;)

I can't give the bottom 2 in a packaged deal....it would have to be really good. The middle one is practically new.

Anyone else have the day off or at least a shorter than normal day?

I'm thinking about checking out a few "new to me" courses today.

Castaldo Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2753), Maryknoll Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=4480), and Lombard Commons (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=458) are on my list this afternoon.

Gotta check em out at least once or twice, right???:|

TheArnoldPalmer

what time were you thinking about heading by the commons? Shoot me a pm.
I could meet you over there for a lunch break round... Or if its later around 4ish, I can try to leave work early for the day.

Not sure on the ETA for commons...that looks like my last stop of the day.

PM sent w/ details.

Anyone else interested? Looks like 40's and sunny this afternoon.

A few of us central Illinois guys are looking to make a trip up to Joliet this week. We are looking to play Highland, Community and West Park. How are the conditions of the courses? Hopefully not a muddy mess! If we do make the trip we'd love to play with some fellow DGCR members!

As far as West Park goes...if it's above freezing, it'll be a frickin' mess. Haven't been to the other two in a bit, but the same rule of thumb applies, only less so (those courses are generally much less muddy).

Community Park in Channahon will be your best bet if it's sloppy. Frank Grimes takes fantastic care of that course.

A couple of guys at our leagues play Highland a lot. I'm afraid that course has the same problem as West Park, if it's above freezing, it will be a mess.

Hey fellas
I am going to be in the schaumburg/itasca area for 3 weeks beginning feb 27. Im a descent shooter looking for some nice holes to glow at after work/training at canon school off of 294. Im out at 5 or 6, and will probably be a little thirsty as well.
Ill head home for the weekends, but will be there sunday-thurs.
I see a couple courses around the area, dont really know which one has what going on.
If anyone wants to meet up for a few holes, or if there is a league I could jump in it would be cool. Or, if someone could point me in a good dieection I would be grateful.

Peace
