View Full Version : Oldest Driver in Da Bag?

Been thinking of how often I have been losing discs lately and the frustration of dumping so much cash into discs I am losing before I even break them in. It's enough to drive a guy to DX. So I was wondering what is the oldest driver in your bag. I don't think mine make it past a few months..maybe it's my game or maybe the difficulty of the courses I play or a combo of both...just wondering.

I don't know if you are counting fairway drivers, but I've had my first disc(Star Leopard) for 1 1/2 - 2 years now. If you're only counting distance drivers I've had my Rouge for a couple months(Its the first distance driver I ever bought, though).

I change them out so often its hard to tell which is the oldest. My yellow Star Teebird is probably the oldest one actually in the bag at about 15 months or so. I have a couple Avengers in my backup box which are maybe 3+ years old.

I have had my Star TeeRex, which I received from a friend, for almost as long as I have been playing (15 months).

150 class gazelle from 1998. It has actually been replaced by a new one but saying a couple months is lame when you have an 11yo driver.

I have an old Avair putter that is about 16 yrs old.
I also had a Moray that was stolen from me at Oak Grove a few months ago. That disc was probably 20+ yrs old, my best roller, and my favorite disc.

having not really played since 2000/2001(until about a month ago), all my discs are from pre-1998. Actually, I just bought 2 more Magnets, so I can practice putting during my lunch break. but every other disc is +10 years old
I'm usually lucky about finding mine when thrown into the woods though.

I still use my very First Wizard I ever bought. It isn't in the bag every round but is always there on my home course.
It is prob. along the lines of 2 and a half years. It is a white disc but is now a very brown color.

Patent pending Aero (it was a driver when I bought it), gotta be about 24 years old, it's older than alot of the folks I play with.

Been going at it hard the last month and a half trying to get myself back in the shape I was in back in the 90s. I never lost a disc back in the day, but last night I lost whatever the 1991 Innova equivilent of an Eclipse was. It wasn't a great disc or any kind of super distance kind of thing, but I had so much time with it back in the day, I knew exactly where I could put that thing every time.
...well, until hole 16 at Indianapolis' Brookside Park last night...:(
Its like I lost an old friend...
I still have the Eclipse that seemed to be identical in design to the disc I lost to answer the question, as well as a Whippet, 2 Scorpions, and a Raven. These discs last a lot longer when you don't use them, but I don't plan on letting that happen anymore!

I'm too lazy to look it up. It came out about the same time as the Pegasus. So it could have been an old disc, but it was probably more like 13 years old.

Typically like you I seem to lose my drivers before I wear them out or replace them. Most of my drivers are Champ plastic and hold up well. I have a few that are a year old and are doing well. Otherwise I will lose them and have to get replaced.

Nah, I got that disc from Mr. Shurts (an Innova Rep)when I was still in High School. I'm 37 now, so do the math. In Missouri, you may not have seen it for until '96, but I had it since around '89 or earlier. We were getting prototype discs from Mr. Shurts since '86-'87..... Remember, Innova is based in SoCal

i'm with threeputt on this one- moray came out since i started playing (1995) and was a factored stingray.
according to the pdga it was approved in 96. in 86 or 87 it was likely a proto stingray (which was approved in 87)

Here's an old putter that I've had for a very long time. I don't carry this around with me. I just thought I would throw some pictures up of it for all of those old school golfers out there. A little nostalgia. I've had it since 93 but I'm sure it's older than that. I'm guessing 89-90 time frame.

Totally different. The "tortured" eclipse (that was for you Solomon) flies straight as an arrow while the new one goes where it wants, not where I want. I use the old one for long putts mostly -- hence the scars.

I've only been playing like 3 months, but I find wayyy more discs than I lose. I've found 6 discs already and lost 3, 1 of which was a disc I had found only minutes earlier. Another of those 3 the person called me to return it. The last one it was getting dark and I hadn't written my info on it yet...bummer. Of the 6 I found only one so far is definitely returnable and we just haven't been able to get together to give it back to the guy. But in any event I'm at least UP by 2 discs.

Its sure nice to be on the plus side of it. Its funny but when I first started playing I found quite a few, but I haven't found more than a handful in the last couple years. I've lost too many, it makes me sad that only one has been returned even though all had contact info clearly on them ... I even suspect that at least one was stolen.

It's a hard question for me since I destroyed my shoulder. There actually have not been any drivers in my bag for about the last three months while I've been trying to learn to throw Aviars left handed.
Before that I was trying to settle between Cyclones and XL's as my control driver. My XL's are all early run Elite Pros, so they are probably all 10-11 years old. Some of the Cyclones are Tournament Pro and are older, but being conservative I'd say maybe 13 or 14 years old. So either/or would be the oldest depending on which actually ended up in the bag. Judging from how my right shoulder feels and how well I'm picking up throwing left handed, it might be a while before either are actually in the bag.

Its like I lost an old friend...Persistence pays. BIG TIME!!
It was getting dark that night I gave up on my old disc and rained hard all weekend after that. I stopped by a couple of times since then after work and looked for about 10-20 minutes each time (and I'd tromp around through there when I was playing, too, of course). Last night I got fed up (the course was overrun with Pee-Wee football and their families who all pee on the golf course so I still haven't had a chance to try out my Discraft misprint discs), but before I packed it in for the night I went to look again - knowing there was no way my disc could still be there after all this time - its just become a habit for me to keep looking, but low and behold there she was, buried in the tall grass after almost a month.
A snail was pissed that I took his new home from him, but I'm happy to have an old friend back from the great beyond.
...and that is the oldest disc in my bag (once again).

My oldest disk is the disc I threw my first ace with; a Champion Orc. Shortly after I threw is I bought a new one to replace it with so that I wouldn't have the fear of losing it. It's still in the bag but I only use it for BHFH ace runs that I know I will be able to find. If it did it once it can do it again!
nothing else in my bag is even close, all bought within the last 12 months. All others were lost being thrown, lost in a bet, or sold to Play-it-Again Sports so I could buy some new plastic and/or a new bag.

My Banshee, I found it probably 7 years ago and it just had a single word written on the back I assume was a name but was real faded, no number written on it and was beat then. No telling how old it actually is. It was fate though, as the banshee I used before that got lost. Its been my thumber and tommy since, whether I like it or not.
Funny thing is, I have gone through 2 other banshees that were meant for back-ups.
First one, I never got to fly like the original one that got lost, but neither did this 7+ year old one (Until recently when I tacoed it) but it was better than the one I bought, so I used the one I bought on a water hole and it is gone.
So I got another spare Banshee and that was "claimed" by my fiancee thinking it felt good in her hand and she liked the pretty blue. A shark is overstable to her so you can only imagine what the banshee looks like when she throws it. She's determined though.
Her taking that, my spare, gave me the excuse to order my Epic which should be comming today or tomorrow. This is a good thing as I am afraid my old banshee is ready to split in half from tommys and thumbers here soon.

I have a eagle and shark that are about 10 years old. played a lot for about the first three years then sort of tapered off due to work schedules and other things. would still play about once or twice a year but not a bunch. Got back into the playing a lot mode when about 6 people i work with started talking about playing at courses near me that i didn't even know had a course. so i teamed up to play with them on the courses. They were using the champion plastic discs and star plastics saying my old eagle and shark dx discs wouldn't beat them. One round i played with one guy i was up 5 shots after the first 6 holes with my old stuff. Have some new stuff now but use my old shark for putting quite a bit. this year i have sunk a number of putts from over 30 feet away with it. to the dismay of the people i am playing with.

I am now the proud owner of a 10x KC Pro Cheetah.
SWEET!!!!!!!!
It may be a mid-range or fairway driver to some people, but to me it's $$$ off the tee.

I have 2 discs in my bag that are 13 plus years old. The first is a cyclone that I got my one and only ace with. I almost lost it a few weeks back and after that I thought about taking it out, but it would be a shame because I use it all the time, so it stays in. The second is a stingray that is the flippy disc in my bag, I use it for tight right shots off the tee only. It's come in handy that's for sure.

Oldest disc I use, every now and then, a recently found Jaguar,a.k.a. "The dinner plate" for you new players. I was helping my brother move about a month ago and found a handful of discs' I gave him when I started. I told him I'm keeping it! that's what I'm charging for helping him move. The stamp has "P.D.G.A. Approved disc golf 1991". In no way, now, is this a driver. But I believe it was when it came out. I also have a recently purchased, out of our clubs lost & found, a Scorpion. It's stamp also has "P.D.G.A. Approved Disc Golf" on it bit no year.

I have a nice goto esp avenger SS(about 5 years old)....the disc is the ultimate sky anhyzer disc...and it can also make unreal late anhyzer turns if thrown right for the 300 foot holes that bend hard right after 150-200 feet...only disc I trust to make the shot.
It is amazing how durable esp is...as this disc is timeless:thmbup:

I have an old fairway driver - a Cheetah - that I've had for almost a decade. It only recently found its way back into the bag for tight fairways. I give up distance to throw from the fairway these days...

Right now in my bag - about a year. Not because I lose discs, I'm just always trying new ones. I used 10 year old discs for a few years.

I've got two oooooold x-clones I got from my dad. They are the discs I learned to throw with (sidearm) and were the only thing I would throw until about a year ago when I started picking up a backhand as well. They are still my go to discs for my sidearm although I've moved on to using a beast when possible to prolong their lives. If anyone has any x-clones lying around I would love to buy them or trade for them :D
P.S. I used to have a third one but I lost it =(
And my dad got them when he was a teen (30 or so years ago) and he used them too, so they have been around for quite a while. Collectively we have a really large number of old drivers, especially original mold cyclones(my dad's favorite disc)
The problem with Xclones is that they beat in so quick.. I always wished they made a preium plastic Clone, that would be sweet.

I guess my oldest is my 78 mold from about 1994. Totally beat but great for short to medium turnovers and when you're stuck in the brush and can only reach out and snap a quick backhand. (Yeah, I know, pretty specific, but a good disc to have when you play in a lot of wooded courses.)
