I live close to the border of wisconsin and was wondering where we should trip to this weekend. towards Rockford, or Joliet, or up to Wisconsin stuff. and which courses we should go to.

Rockford has two courses in one park (Anna Page), I've only played one (it was great, but we got lost and needed a local's help to show us around). The other course was closed for improvements while I was out there.
Joliet's West park and Highland park are both awesome. West is an old school course with overall shorter holes but some unique/fun ones. Highland is super challenging, but there are some great holes there. Although Highland kicks my ass everytime, I am always eager to go back.
Never played in Wisconsin.

UW Parkside in Kenosha...the only time I was there it was a tough 18 (and during a tournament, so I couldn't enjoy my round the way I would've preferred), but it's now 27. If you go there, it sounds like you'll need to print a map to avoid getting lost around the new 9.

You could head to Lemon Lake (Crown Point, IN) which may be about 2.5-3 hours for you. Four courses of all different types on one site, enough to keep you busy for the weekend. Motel 6 in Merrilville, IN for under $40/night.

I was at Parkside earlier this year and was rather disappointed with the course. There was construction going on and a local told my family that the course had been changed since the construction and that it wasn't as good.
If you want a shorter drive I would personally advise going to the Northern area of IL and hit Adler in Libertyville, Beavier in Waukegan, Warren Township Course and maybe even Keller in Deerfield or Willow Stream in Buffalo Grove. The only 18 holer there is Beavier, but the others are among the better 9 holers I have played.
A little bit longer drive would be your best option IMO in Joliet. I was awe struck by Highland Park and can't wait to get back there and hit West Park, Community Park and Mokena as well. As far as great courses in a small area, I feel this is your best option.

yah i have been to rockford, loved west, hated east. I wouldn't mind driving to go to west and continuing to Freeport, a local at rockford said it was worth the father drive. On the other hand i was looking around at another post and everyone was die hard highland park in the joliet area. so im pretty sure we will de heading down that way.

these are all decent courses, but ive never been to buffalo grove.
Im really interested in more elevation changes that cant seem to be found in northern area.

You can't go wrong by going to Joliet. Highland Park is the real deal, West Park is really fun and was designed by Steady Eddie, Plus this is Channahon and Shorewood very close by. Both are good courses, not on the level of Highland or West Park, but very good. All 4 are within 10 minutes of each other. Plus if you're staying for a day or two there are other great courses not that far away (less than 30-40 minute drive), including the Oaks in Mokena, good courses in New Lennox, Lockport, and Oswego. All in all, it's a very good discing area.
but then again, I grew up in the area, so take it for what it's worth.

You will certainly get elevation changes at Highland Park. There are multiple holes where you throw over ravines, a couple straight downhill and a couple where the basket is blind and you have to throw it over a 20-30 foot crest. The elevation is what I remember most about highland park.
If you really want elevation take a weekend trip to Western Michigan and play Flip City and Mason County Park. That is some insane elevation.

Did you borrow McFly's Delorean or something? ;) Channy to Shorewood = 10min. West to Highland = 10 min. I don't think you could get from either in the first group to either in the second in 25 min. All are fun, worthwhile courses though.

Being new to the area (I live close to you) I made it a point to play all the Chicago area courses and all the Milwaukee area courses too since I am there for work weekly at a min. I agree that Joliet is the best destination. Lemon Lake is great too - hit Valparaiso for sure if you make that trip.
Rockford is good too and you could hit Janesville which is a little north. If you are doing a 2 day trip you could combine that with Madison and hit Token Creek (Vallarta-Ast), Heistand and Elver - all very solid courses.
Brown Deer & Dretzka on the north side of Milwaukee are 2 of my all time favorites. Hit Parkside in Kenosha on the way up.

I've played the Peoria area. I'll take our area over Peoria.

I gotta represent Bloomington Normal. We have 2 18 hole courses (Maxwell and Irvin) and one 9 hole course (18 with alternate tees). Maxwell is one of my favorite courses but I'd go to Peoria to play Northwood, McNasty, Eureka, and then Bradley if you have time instead of Blo-No.

my brother goes to ISU, so I've played the "Blo-NO" courses. They're alright, pretty standard. I gotta put the Joliet and Peoria courses way above them. :p

my gf goes to school @ ISU and have played both 18''s. they make for a good time and each course a few good holes to its own

Don't get me wrong, they are a good time for sure. but then again it takes quite a bit of bad to have me NOT have a good time out on dg course. a bad day of discing beats a good day of almost anything else (other sporting events not included :D)
