We were well represented.

I'm doing an ace race next weekend, I can't wait.

Does it count as a metal hit on a skip shot or a shot that slides on the ground and then hits the pole?

What is an ace race exactly?

peabody
09-12-2009, 11:17 PM
@Zud-- Yea, it counts as a metal hit anyway you can get the disc to strike the pin no matter where it hits.
Adam, you are issued two discs. You have to pick one to throw for a round. You have 18 shortened holes and the most Aces wins. Metal hits count too especially if no Aces are scored.
The one with most Aces/Metal hits wins the prize.

I played an Ace Race in Lumberton, NC.
Scored 3 for Aces, 2 for chains and 1 for metal.
The winner had 11 points. 3 Aces!

Congrats Peabody!

Took 4 Aces to win ours, and the winner needed evey one of them. One guy on my card was terribly hung over, and hit 3 Aces and 1 Metal!

How'd you score an extra Ace disc? trade?

@Skurf-I have an Innova bag and a Carolina bag so I really don't need the bag. Some of the discs are a bit heavy for my old a$$ arms but the mids and a couple of the putters are gonna get used. The towel is fantastic.
@Bogey, dude how close were you throwing from? I was darn lucky to even get one ace. All the holes were right at the outside of my throwing range.
Funny story on the extra disc. I took a buddy with me but wasn't going to buy him in until I saw and felt the discs. Well we were tossing them around and my buddy tosses the ESP one in the darn lake.
Welp, that meant I had to use just the one disc and no backup. So I bought another package and let him have the one leftover discs to toss.
I guess being nice paid off. I let him keep the hat and mini and I kept all the putters.
What you got to trade and what do you see here you like?

It was my understanding that it was either an Ace or Metal. Metal being ANY part of the basket, not putting Chains in a seperate category. At least thats how we played last year... maybe you guys played it different?

I was going to say the one I played in did not count the pole as metal except if it was above the basket.

No doubt about it - we were close. The TD wanted everyone to have a decent chance of hitting an Ace and set the holes up ranging from about 80'-150'. Granted, these were essentially all up-shots, but I liked the setup.

Nothing off you, or other the way any other Races are set up: hitting from 200-300 ft takes skill to be sure, but there's also an element of luck involved. The shorter layout requires more Aces and metal hits to win. Someone who hits 4 plus a couple more metal hits from about 100' didn't just get lucky - they were "on."

Plus, they ran a couple of the holes around or through tree trunks, requiring some finesse shots and threading the needle.

What you got to trade and what do you see here you like?
Thanks - not looking to trade. Just curious where the extra disc came from. Must have been tough to keep your composure when that disc ended up in the drink and you had to buy another player's pack. Well done. Congrats on the win - glad karma was on your side!

I missed winning yesterday's ace race in Aurora IL by a couple metal hits. I felt great about how I threw, with 4 aces and a couple metal hits, but someone hit the same number of aces and two more metal hits than I did. I'm still upset about a couple metal hits I missed by less than 6 inches...

dang, you are :eek:bada$$. You would have thought 4 aces would have been more than enough.
BTW how do you like the putters?

mashnut
09-20-2009, 11:57 AM
I don't like them for putting within about 40', but I really like them for long putts and shorter approaches. They don't seem to have as much glide as my BB aviars, so I don't think they'll replace those for driving, but for 40-150' shots they're pretty accurate for me on different lines.

finished todays ace race at alan piers house, only hit 2 metals, winner got 2ace3metal i think

anyone think these discs look and resemble a wizard? side by side they are hard to tell apart, wizards might have a tad smaller rim height

they sure were some over stable SOB's, the course was beggin for turnovers and it was rare to see someone flip one of these putters

good times, i got the CTP package too, helluva first event for me

They do seem pretty close to the wizards, both in profile and in flight. I disagree on them being super overstable though, I thought they held a nice easy anny line surprisingly well, and flipped up straight pretty easily. They are quite a bit less overstable than my BB aviars.

How does a ace race tourny work? Do you just tee off and hope you hit metal or ace and your done? Or do you finish the hole and keep score like normal?

MotoDj
09-21-2009, 01:31 AM
one throw per hole
aces count for wins
metal hits break ace ties
metal hits only basket and above, no pole

That's right, in life the only people that get rewarded for hitting the pole are fireman and strippers...
